Import parallel-VAPP Limitaion

Hello

I'm trying to deploy several OVFs in parallels using the import-VAPP powercli.

I use the RunASync indicator to ensure that the command does not wait until it finishes and returns immediately.

But even using the Async flag I still get a problem with deployment of more than 2 in parallel.

The first 1 I am deploying returns as expected, but when I'm deploying seconds an it just hang until there finishes although I use the RunASync indicator.

Anyone know if there is no limit for the deployment of several OVFs at the same time? Is - this configurable?

Thanks in advance for all wizards!

Yes, it is an option... I'll look into that.

Thanks again for your help! You have really helped my out here.

Thank you.

  • Export/import parallel

For reasons that I won't go in, I need to export all THE data when you use the mxl import & export for defragmentation nightly. I use parallel exports which, in theory, should allow the file to be over 2 gig, assuming that the production is distributed on 4 files. Until this week, things were fine. It looks like essbase on Solaris is not distributed output also as I had hoped. Here's the output files.

    -rw - r - r - 1 aphynspr hynspr 246K 23 Nov 03:17 3. txt

    -rw - r - r - 1 aphynspr hynspr 15M 23 Nov 03:50 1_1.txt

All data are in the first file.

Does anyone know how essbase slices the data? Other exporters of level zero or by adding a preprocessor to determine the number of files, anyone has a suggestion so that I can import the appropriate files?

    Thank you
    Dave

There is no magic answer. I think that Essbase tries to break the export based on the "anchor," or the last dimension. It is interesting because if you parallel calculations he uses this dimension to determine how many processors, it needs. So according to your distribution of data, you can not do any parallel Calc improvement. On a teswt server you could import your data, change the order of dimensions and re-export to see what kind of difference it made.

To extend what Gary says, you can watch the Binfile of Dataexport option. It is an extremely effective way to export then re-import the data.

  • Parallel degree importing Datapump

    Hello

For several imports that I ran, I observed a constant degree of parallelism = 10 when creating index.

    Moreover, I parallel_degree_limit = en parallel_degree_policy = MANUAL CPU.

The first parameter specifies that Oracle sets up to an upper limit on the DOP.

If this explains the value observed?

    Kind regards

    Hello

At the same time goes like this:

all the tables, plsql definitions are created in series

All data in the table of loading in parallel - so not parallel insertion into a table but a work process separate datapump by table - so EMP would be charged by slave1 and DEPT by slave2 - but at the same time. IN your case 10 separate tables would all be imported at the same time.

The indexes are built at the same time you specify

Constraints are made in series one and the same process, I think

  • Nested VApps in vcloud Director

Is it possible to create the vapps nested within vcloud Director?

Nesting vapps won't happen in vCD.  They will be parallel vApps.  Is not stop you from writing a tool/site Web automation, which would show you have there.

vRA will address finally that, but they do not use vApps.  all virtual machines just became machines to manage without the concept of being part of a paralytic.  It will be that you have a plan of several computers that uses two other plans several computers (a DB level on the application layer).

  • Dublicate vApps are created

    Hi all

The title of the topic is very vague, so let me explain this in detail. Please see the attachment for more precision (in particular the details of problem).

We use a set-up of MSM with features of web portal. Users can request the vApps with a machine virtual here. These applications are picked up by MSM and carried out by VCO. vCD is present to "lead the cloud." VCO thus began the creation of VAPP etc. in vCD.

We want to be able to ask vApps via the portal, but also to import of existing VM (in a vApp) of vSphere in vCD. VSM has then synchronize these to his own CMDB. To do this, we use the VSM integration mapping. At first, we were just newly discovered mapping vApps by the unique URL of API. When in time between the request for service (empty VAPP is created in VSM) and the actual finishing of commissioning, vCD/VSM connector connects VSM and vCD, he discovers a new VAPP, which does not match an existing VSM VAPP. This is because vCD has more information on the TIME at this time and cannot match this information with the empty TIME that already exists in the VSM.

To avoid this, I put in place of the additional criteria in the map, which can also get an empty TIME with the same name and organization. This tackeled the problem.

A problem which still exists, is a name of vApp is used, which is already present in MSM. vCD renamed it in ' < name > _1 ' If this is the case, and vCD/VSM connector is running, it cannot match the URL of the API (vCD has so more information than VSM) and cannot match on name/org (therefore, the name is changed). This means that another entry in the CMDB is created.

How to tackle the problem that vCD change the name (which is the desired behavior) but MSM is not aware of this if the connector is executed between the start and end of the query.

I can't do this (that I know) through the integration of the criteria, since the empty VAPP initial and the paralytic whose vCD trying to resolve, do not match the criteria.

    Any ideas anyone?

Probably corrected this by creating another connector, which manages the import of vApps created/imported in vCD. It runs during the night, nobody asks vApps via the customer portal. In this way the standard functionality is guaranteed, and the importation of constom is only taking place at given once at night.

Dublicate names will be processed by vCD as expected. Creating a new TIME with an existing name will get a "_1" added by vCD, if the TIME already exists in vCD (and not in the MSM still) or not.

  • vCloud connector 2.5 - copy the model of vSphere to vCloud Director fails

    Hi all

I'm trying to make a copy of the model of the private Cloud for vSphere (e.g. my instance of vCenter lab) the vCloud Director private cloud (my instance vCD lab, which is deployed and registered with the same instance of vCenter mentioned above) with vCloud connector 2.5.

I have deployed the server component of vCC, configured and deployed two nodes of vCC - a to connect to vCenter for private cloud config vSphere and another to connect to the vCloud Director org for the basic cloud vCD config private. Moreover, the vCloud Director is registered to the same instance of vCenter which is used for vSphere cloud.

I then tried to open a copy of the model from the vSphere cloud node to the node of vCD. The task to export the OVF template will start, and the task of SCR plugin will also display the copy task. This vCD instance also model any TIME if you go to the properties of the VDC organization selected during the SCR copy Wizard.

After about 18%, the percentage remains stuck there for a little bit before the 'Export OVF Template"task fails with"Operation timed out ". After that, the task indicated in the vCC plugin will fail also later with (OVF Export failed. Null message) and the import of VAPP model in vCD job will fail also - VAPP failure will take upward of space inside the affected storage however profile until I have manually remove the failing through vCD VAPP model object.

Anyone else having this problem? I've seen this problem on both environments so far: vCenter 5.1 update 1 with vCD 5.1.2 and vCenter 5.5 with vCD 5.5. If the problem seems to be specific to the version of vSphere. The logs generated by server SCR bee all that useful for me to understand what went wrong did not.

    Hello

Import-VAPP supports the OVF format only. The problem that struck you is that the cmdlet does not validate the input by extension files and attempts to load EGGS although it cannot import it.

We already know on this subject and in the next version of PowerCLI this validation is done, and the cmdlet says he can import only OVF.

  • Fusion 8 trial goes wrong - Win8.1 VM, imported from Parallels, does not start

I was pretty many small problems with Parallels, so I thought that I had trial VMware. After importing my Parallels VM, it does not start in Fusion. A few details:

    Fusion 8.0.1 - 3094680, downloaded today VMware.

I installed it, accepting all the defaults. Let him import my Parallels VM work. From the first test, wouldn't start Windows. After using Windows for many years, I am familiar with its built-in startup repair functions, so I followed, as follows:

All down took place inside the virtual machine in the virtual machine window, at the start of the first attempt.

"Your PC came across a problem..." »

    "Automatic repair".

"Diagnosis of your PC", which recommended that I just tried the reboot, so I did.

"Your PC came across a problem..." »

    "Automatic repair".

""Diagnose your PC' this time, I chose Advanced Options > troubleshooting > Advanced Options > startup repair, which took me through "diagnose your PC", check disk for errors, ""repair disk errors. That has not helped - I found myself at the beginning: "Your PC came across a problem..." »

I tried again the whole process and am still unable to boot: "Your PC came across a problem..." »

Oh, my Mac is a MBP, the model of 2014, the 16 GB of RAM, a Yosemite OS X fully updated running. There are about 150 GB of SSD disk space, and the virtual machine is set to 8 GB of RAM.

Any ideas? I'll be happy to check if suggested things and report.

The first thing I would try would be to uninstall the drivers/additions/tools from inside the virtual machine before you import it - that is to say from inside Parallels.  Have you tried?

Check that Parallels knows that it is a virtual machine Windows 8.1 (or the closest guest OS type he understands).  We rely on the knowledge of the OS type asked to perform various tasks during the import, and we could get confused if it is not correctly set prior to importation.  By the way, check what disk controller, we chose to use for the virtual hard disk.  SATA is probably the safest option, but I can't predict with certainty how it works if you use a type of controller of different disk for the virtual machine in Parallels.

I hope it's useful!  Feel free to post them here if none of these solves the problem.

    See you soon,.

  • Import-VAPP OvfConfiguration Hashtable

    Hi all -

I can't deploy an OVA with an OvfConfiguration hash table.  Import-TIME don't think that my table of hash is a hash table.  When I try to import, it says that it cannot convert a System.Object [] type to System.Collection.Hashtable.  My hash table is certainly a hashtable type.

I have a text file with a setting that I import to create the hash table.  If I create the variable on the command line, it works fine.  If I inspect my variable import and manual creation, they seem identical.  I have no idea what I'm doing wrong here.

    $ht = get - Content - Path "test.txt" | ConvertFrom-StringData

    $ht

Name                           Value                                                                                                           ----                           -----                                                                                                           Name JonDoe

    $ht | GM

    TypeName: System.Collections.Hashtable

Any ideas why it does not work?

    Hello, rspoto-

It sounds like it could have to do with the way you use Get-Content and ConvertFrom-StringData, and a subtle difference in the output.  In your example in this post, you have a line in seemingly simple .txt file, and it displays as hashtable with a pair key / value.

I imagine that the result of the use of the input text file isn't a single hash table, but rather an array of hash tables.  When you run the result of the call to ConvertFrom-StringData to Get-Member, it shows you the types and members of the latter coming through the pipeline.  Hash tables (single item hash tables) are all objects returned by ConvertFrom-StringData.  But the cmdlet Import-TIME does not accept an array of hash tables - it, of course, wants a single hash table, with one or more key/value pairs.

To help determine if the output from your ConvertFrom-StringData with the 'real' input text file is one or more hash tables, you can inspect further with measures.  Is the following returns a 1, or more of a number (the number of lines in your actual input text file)?

    Get-Content C:\temp\myRealInputFile.txt | ConvertFrom-StringData | Measure-Object

If more than one (assuming that you have several lines in your actual input file), you can get the type of the overall production of the ConvertFrom-StringData command by using Get-Member as such:

    Get-Member -InputObject (Get-Content -Path C:\temp\myRealInputFile.txt | ConvertFrom-StringData)

..., and that the whole type is probably the type System.Object [] that you have declared in your message.  The difference between this way of getting members and something to Get-Member of pipes, it's this way to return the Member information for the real object, and not for each object in the input object.

In any case, if this count returns as superior to one, you can use the following to make a table of unique hash with several pairs of key/value from your multiline input file:

    (Get-Content C:\temp\C:\temp\myRealInputFile.txt) -join "`n" | ConvertFrom-StringData

Then you should have a table of hash unique to use with Import-VApp and things should work a bit better.  What do I do?

A feature that particularly useful in my opinion is "Lossless" export for models of vApp. This preserves the personality of all virtual machines (UUID, MAC address, etc.). It is less portable than a 'regular' export, but saves time if you go between instances of vCD.

  • Import of Parallels

I want to try VMware Fusion to see if it solves a problem I have with a soft under Parallels, but I have a concern. In some reading that looks like the Parallels image is rendered unusable return to Parallels, if I decide not to use VMware. In the application itself, however, it is said that import creates a copy. So the question is I will end with two images, one for the existing to Parallels and VMware? I don't want to take the risk of trashing Parellels since I already have a number of installed applications.

    TNX!

When you import, you will receive an option to choose a location where the converted image is saved. In the end, you will have a picture format by merger.

Parallels image will be always available in its original location.

  • Imported the Parallels VM, now I get "BusLogic SCSI adapter is not supported for 64-bit customers."

I have a virtual machine 64-bit Fedora 16 that I use in Parallels Desktop.  During my first installation of VMWare Fusion 5, I had the opportunity to import this VM.  I did that, but when I boot, the virtual machine is suspended.  I went to the configuration of the virtual machine in VMWare and fixed a few things than the failed import.  Now I when I start the VM, I get this dialog box:

The BusLogic SCSI adapter is not supported for 64-bit guests.

I searched on the web and this forum, and I can't find information on solving this problem.

I do not necessarily first as suggested by the other answer on this subject and instead, add the following line to the configuration of the Virtual Machine's .vmx file.

    scsi0.virtualDev = "lsilogic"

This should fix the error message that you get without having to directly edit the hard.  Take a look at: changing the file .vmx for your VM from VMware Fusion (1014782)

That said, if you want detailed according to the existing real configuration recommendations then... To help understand what components are, how best to provide comprehensive diagnostic information is to use the command "Collect information to Support" the Fusion of VMware (menu bar) > help > collect Support information and then attach the .tgz file it created on your desktop for a response post.
