  just upgraded merger 7.0.1 for 7.1.0 because I thought that he could solve this problem:

  My host system is running Windows 7 and I have a Guest Ubuntu 10.04 LTS running. When I click on install VMware tools on my VMware Player. Maintaining download fails with the message [connection to the update server has failed], every time. I tried several times and still have had no luck. Is there an alternative to this procedure to install the tools on my VM?

  Sorry for creating another post on this subject, I see many others have the same problem, but none actually provided what I needed.

  When you try to update, it hangs on the connection ()https://softwareupdate.vmware.com/cds).

  I have improved my vmware installation (download manually), but for some reason any packages msi with the tools got an error during installation and has never been installed, now miss me all VMware Tools.

  When I try to visit the following url:

  https://softwareupdate.VMware.com/VMW-desktop

  I get "File not found", and I tried this on several machines, on the 3 different inet-connections, all the same.

  For some reason, I'm able to enumerate:

  http://softwareupdate.VMware.com/CDs/VMW-desktop/WS

  But when I enter the 7.1.4 - folder, I get "file not found".

  So that someone knows the reason for this, or can give me the direct link to all the tools for WS 7.1.4?

  I looked everywhere on vmware.com for download stand-alone tools... It could have been so simple

• Impossible to install VMware Tools in Fusion 2.0.2

  Just migrated from Parallels 4 to VMware Fusion 2.0.2 (Build 147997).

  Got the merger by download and imported the Parallels 4 VM.

  With the help of Windows XP Professional on MacBook Pro 2.16 GHz Intel Core Duo (OSX 10.5.6).

  Whenever I chose the Virtual Machine > install VMware Tools, nothing happens.

  Just change the "Cancel installing VMware Tools" menu option.

  Anywhere where I can download the file and install in my Windows XP or another option?

  When you choose Virtual Machine > install VMware Tools what happens is inserts ISO Image to VMware tools appropriate in the CD/DVD of the merger and Windows if the Auto-Insert Notification does not work then you must manually run the : \setup.exe in Windows Explorer. (Sure would be nice if VMware that would in the help file and it makes absolutely no sense that it is not there in the first place!)

  Note: These ISO Images are stored at: "/ Library/Application Support/VMware Fusion/isoimages.

  If needed you can manually mount the image appropriately, if necessary.

  VMware Fusion (menu bar) > help > VMware Fusion help > managing Virtual Machines > configure the CD/DVD drive > connection and setting upward a CD/DVD Drive

  I installed the latest version of VMware player 4.0.4 on CentOS 6.3 (2.6.32 - 279.2.1.el6.i686 #1 SMP Thu Jul 19 23:10:02 UTC 2012 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux)

  and now I can't uninstall it.

  I used Installer .bundle since there is no RPM for VMware Player installer as there are for the workstation and other VMware products.

  rpm-e and yum erase fail to find a reference to vmware player on my system.

  You should be able to use the information of manual uninstall of VMware Workstation for Linux hosts (38) of the to do with VMware Player.

• Impossible to get files shared, open-vm-tools or vmware tools to work after upgrading Fusion 8

  I just upgraded to Fusion 8 and have been upgrading my VMs accordingly.  I went to install vmware tools as usual on Ubuntu 14.04, and the script or the pop-up said that the preferred method for this OS has been to use instead the open-vm-tools. I installed open-vm-tools, but my shared folders disappeared. I tried to install vmware-tools, since I found an old ad saying that would solve the problem, but he wants to only replace open-vm-tools.  I thought I would try anyway, but the installation fails with errors.  I completely uninstalled vmware tools and restarted open-vm-tools.  It doesn't seem to be a manual for the use of open-vm-tools.

  If open-vm-tools is the preferred method to use ubuntu on vmware, how to bring back all the features (shared folders, etc.)  Why did every upgrade VMware accompanied by pain and hard to find answers?  Or maybe I'm being really stupid.

  OK, I FINALLY got working open-vm-tools on Ubuntu.  I'm not sure that all that was necessary, but here's what I did:

  1. Completely uninstalled vmware tools using the uninstall program
  2. Open-vm-tools, open-vm-tools-desktop and open-vm-tools-dkms is installed. I am not sure I needed everything, but at least man pages were here who has helped.
  3. At one time I used vmware-user-suid-wrapper, which defined the Office on the appropriate resolution, but is not persisted until I upgraded to Ubuntu.
  4. Updated Ubuntu Studio ot 15.04 Vervet vives.
  5. VMware-hgfsclient will show you what is actually shared by the virtual machine, even if it is not mounted.
  6. To constantly rising stocks, I added the following to the / etc/fstab: "".host: / / mnt/hgfs vmhgfs defaults 0 0 ""
  7. Rebooted and everything works now.

  Given that VMware now recommends that users use open-vm-tools instead of the deprecated vmware-tools, it would have been nice to have brief instructions on how to make the transition, rather than have me spend hours in trial and error until I have to work.

  I ran a VM with Ubuntu on a VMware Server before, and I converted this virtual machine using VMware Converter for ESXi. I would now like to uninstall VMware tools, I installed VMware Server and instead install VMware Tools that came with my box of ESXi.

  How could I go about this? I installed it to have unzipped the tar.gz package by running the installer here.

• 8.0.2 - > 8.1.0 vmware tools (win64) usb FTDI driver problem

  I'm Win10x64 running on latest El Capitan.  When I upgraded from fusion 8.0.2 to 8.1.0, I could no longer communicate with all FTDI device that I plugged in USB.  There are some devices that I have with FTDI chips create COM serial ports (debugger microcontroller pods, etc.).

  To go back, I uninstalled vmware tools and downgraded fusion to 8.0.2 and reinstalled the previous vmware tools and everything works well.  Something seems to have changed in 8.1.0 that breaks it.

  Yes, it is a known issue in the merger 8.1 and should be fixed in the next version of the patch. In the meantime, version 8.0.2.

• How to launch and use the VMware tools

  After installing 2008r2 as a virtual machine and install VMware Tools, I am unable to open the tools and use them.  I did two days of searching, and I can't find an answer to my problem.    Downstairs is an action I took, but I would appreciate any help from the community.

  VM #1: The Windows 2008R2 VM I have a problem with VMware tools.

  I've deleted and rebuilt the two VM three times now, thinking it was my environment somehow.  ESXi 5.1 works although I have not built anything there yet.  I am able to access this part of the laboratory fine of vSphere Client.

  VMware Tools:

  Within the Services of VM 2008 I can see VMware Tools started service, the icon in the system tray notification area and see the files on the C: drive of the virtual computer, but there is no way to open it.

  So next step that we did was
  1 uninstalled VMware Tools in the virtual machine
  2 restarted the VM
  3. manually deleted/renamed the C:\Program VMware Tools
  4. manually deleted/renamed C:\Programdata\VMware\VMware tools
  5 Rebooted
  6. install the VMware tools
  7 Rebooted

  The issue is not reproducible after the same

  
  NOTE: Make sure that the virtual computer CD player points to the correct image.  I found it always go back to the windows 7 iso image on my C: drive from physical machines to where the image 2008r2 was on drive E:

  No need to reinstall again. You're not missing something. VMware has changed the VMware Tools tray and removed options that were available in previous versions. Take a look at for example experience front of VMware: The VMware Tools GUI is gone - now what? with some information about this change and the replacement of the command line.

  We have updated our 5.1 to 5.1.0 u1 ESXi host yesterday.

  Whith this patch, we can update as vmware tools...

  After that I updated the vmware tools I face the following error in my log files:

  When I just go to that directory, I noticed that all the files are 23.03.2013. Only the vix.dll and hgfs.dll are 09.05.2010.

  The I go to control > VMware tools > Info it shows me the version 8.6.5.621624

  Bought a new iMac and bought Fusion 5 Pro.  I have a 5 year old and reclassified iMac Fusion 4-5 fusion and had no problems.  The new computer is for my wife and I tried and tried to migrate the laptop and it failed every time.  So, I did a clean install of Windows 7 and before I downloaded everything that I installed VMWare Tools.  For the past 2 days, I was passage of the files from the laptop and install programs that she had on the laptop.  Problems with Word and excel as they sit a spin.  Money went to re - install VMware Tools and it launches the installation program and then comes up with an error message...   Extra solution after Woodys - please check if mirror folder is enabled or not, if it is enabled, please disable it then try to reinstall the tools.

  When you run the merge, right click on the Fusion icon on the dock, go to Options-> Show in Finder, then it will locate you. First leave the merge to uninstall it and then move it to the trash.
