  You can use The Windows Installer CleanUp utility to remove the VMware Tools MSI and then try to reinstall the VMware Tools.

  reason - if nothing happens at all - could be a process 'fixcamera.exe' or 'webcam.exe. Use the Task Manager to see if one of them is running and kill it, then try to run the installation again.

I tried all the steps listed on the Adobe site (launch uninstall, delete files in several folders, etc, then reboot), but when I come back to the help page to check the status of my Flash drive, I see that Flash player 9.0.45.0 works still!   I have a very similar problem as Bruce for my opera Flash Player ver.9 cannot be uninstalled to allow the most recent flash player version 11 install and replace the old version. I followed all the steps in Adobe help downloaded by the program uninstaller to uninstall Flash Player and even using TuneUp Utilities 2012 program to remove all Opera related records after uninstalling Opera. Hoping that it will be a clean boot to install the latest version of Opera version 12.01. After having installed the clean copy of the opera, and then installed the Flash Player 11, a message indicates that it is installed successfully. Returned to Adobe and always check for the version of flash player installed in Opera, at the poster version 9.0.45.0.

  What are the chances, but this second suggestion was correct. Somehow the plugin has been in the other library/Internet Plug-Ins folder. However, the plugin had an (original) at the end of the file name for a reason any. I deleted this plugin, rebooted, and flash is not active on Safari.

  For several days, I try to uninstall the Flash Player in order to re-install again. However, I am unable to uninstall completely. The "flash 10b.ocx" file always remains in C:\windows\system32\macromed\flash. Because I tried several times I now 4 files: "flash 10b.ocx" ' "flash .ocx 10B (2) ', ' flash .ocx 10B (3)" and "flash 10 b (4).

  This situation slows down my computer (laptop with Windows Vista Home Premium) considerably at the Start Up!

  I also tried several times to uninstall by using the official removal tool and close all applications, such as indicated in the instructions.   Looks like a BIOS setting may have changed (in terms of virtualization).

  Unlikely a Windows problem.

  Uninstall VMware Player.  Restart the computer.  Download the latest version of VMware Player (save to your computer) and install it.  Restart the computer.  Try to run it.

  I've been using VMware Player 7.1 successfully for some time, but my drive hard host started making noise, so I installed a new SSD drive as drive C on the host computer.  My old hard drive installation was 8.1 for Windows 64-bit, but needed to be cleaned, so I did a clean install of Windows 8.1 64 bit on my new SSD for the host.  My guest OS (8.1 64-bit Windows) has been installed on drive E, then I'm not touching this player.  I then installed VMware Player 7.1 and all is well.  However, when I now run VMware Player 7.1 and try to open my (8.1 Windows 64-bit) guest OS, he says now that the Intel VT - x is disabled.  I've never touched the BIOS at all, but to check I went into the BIOS and Intel Virtualization is always on because it has been.  My system is a motherboard ASUS Sabertooth with an i7 processor and 16 GB of ram.

  So I rechecked everything in the BIOS and made sure the virtualization is enabled.  What else can I do to get VMware Player 7.1 running?  Help, please!

In any case, other messages in the forums, it seems like some antivirus/end point protection applications can cause these issues (see, for example, binary translation is incompatible with the long mode).   BTW, you guys have far too much product and names making it confusing. What should I use? Player? Workstation? Spear? vCenter, Fusion. The list goes on and. Do not try to give me the list of "well it's for this reason and this other thing". The point is there are too many products and it is too complicated. If you want to tell me what the structure of the product is just limit it to the product I should use. I have a Windows 7 box and you want to run Ubuntu in a VM desktop - that's all...
