  • What you have already tried to solve the problem

Delete anything!  If you need to delete programs in order to free up space, use programs and features in Control Panel to remove unwanted or unnecessary programs.  Regarding what you can / must not delete, who can say?  It depends on what programs you use.

    Every few minutes the message:

"To free up disk space, Outlook Express can compact messages.  This can take up to a few minutes. »

It is irrelevant for two reasons:

    (1) I do not use Outlook Express and have therefore no messages to be compacted.

    (2) I have not free disk space as I am currently using only five percent of the very large disks.

Is could someone please tell me how I get rid of this very irritating message.

Try to reset the compact County in the registry:

    1. Start the registry editor.
    2. Open this key:

where the identity is a string of letters, numbers, and dashes.

I need to free up disk space on my Windows XP system.

I need to remove all the system files that are not needed in my C drive.

I noticed that I have two files above in my local disk on my C drive folder.

I can't find any reference to what they are, and if they are needed.

Can anyone provide info on them and if they can be removed.

Also, I get a picture of the record required in my C drive system.

    Thank you

    Hello

I wouldn't say that allows you to delete any system files that are associated with Windows. You can use Disk Cleanup tool to safely remove files that are not required by windows.

  • Get the message "To free up disk space, Outlook Express can compact messages" - No. OE installed

From the beginning of this week, I get a pop-up message stating "To free up disk space, Outlook Express can compact messages".  This happens when that I start.  The fact is; I do not use Outlook Express or have installed. I checked the Windows components that are installed and checked that.  Once again; He started at the beginning of this week.  There are a few updates that was installed earlier this week also.  No other software has been added.  I use Outlook 2003 and have for years.  Will continue to cancel this message, I would appreciate it if someone could shed some light on how to prevent this message from poping up upward.

Of course, it has something to with Windows Search as you suggest.
I open the Indexing Options and found that Outlook Express was listed and checked in an indexed location.
I took the case off Outlook Express but he left on my Outlook 2003.
    The settings saved and restarted.
The message poped always upward, but I noticed one thing - search index icon does not appear in the taskbar until I actually recognized the message by choosing .  I waited about a minute and a half before that I did to make sure my boot is complete.  Soon I clicked on cancel search index icon appeared on the system tray.

    > but when I go into the files deleat it says there is no files...

Looks like you're tailking on drive D:, your recovery disk. Yes?

(If you went ot C: drive tries to delete files, you wiould NOT have received message "here ya no files".)

Your recovery partition D is implemented by the manufacturer of your computer in the event of serious problems in your system.
You use it to restore your system.

You are NOT supposed to touch it... not for nothing is add or remove anything from him.

Have you been using the D drive and for scheduled backups of file, or use it to store other programs and files?
If this is the case, you call the manufacturer of the computer, tell them the situation...

    1. ask for a set of recovery DVD (if you have not done a game initially). It is used to re - install Vista from it in case of system crash.
    2. ask how to remove backup files or elements that are NOT supposed to be there.
They created the recovery partition, they know how to take care of it.
Let them teach how you to.

I don't think it's a good idea to run Wista without installing SP2 and all the essential and important updates - but the decision is yours.  Here's how to delete downloads prior to installation if thay have not already installed it.

    Stop the automatic updates service

Click Start, choose Run (or type it in the search field).
In the run box, type services.msc.
    Click OK.
    Right-click the automatic updates service.
    Click on stop.
Stopping the service will take a moment.

Delete the content of the download folder
    Click Start. Choose run.
In the run box, type %windir%\SoftwareDistribution
    Click OK.
    Open the download folder.
Delete all the contents of the download folder (or just update you do not want to install)
    Close the window.

    Start the automatic updates service
    Click Start. Choose run.
In the run box, type services.msc.
    Click OK.
    Right-click the automatic updates service.
    Click Start.
Starting the service will take a moment.

By removing the contents of the download folder - you have removed the downloaded updates (or those you selected).

    I hope this helps.

    Good luck!

I'm a novice so keep things simple: I'm freeing disk space: I installed a Service Pack 2 for Microsoft .NET Framework 3.0 and also a Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 Service Pack 2. Do I need these two?... the 3.0 and 2.0. Here are the 2 biggest programs. Also, do I need something called Adobe reader? ..... The 4th most grand is a 'HP Customer Participation 9.0' program which I cannot remove. In my Add / Remove control panel when I click to delete this nothing happens. I put the disc in which I used when I added a printer. It gives me an option to remove it, but even if I select it, nothing happens. Should I disconnect my printer and start from scratch?

  • can I delete old updates of windows to free up disk space?

I was wondering if there is no safe way to remove old updates from windows on windows xp for free disk space.

You can even if it is not recommended, you may move them to another location, like a flashdrive if disk space is a problem.

"Uninstall folders that have (for example in the framework of the name

wish to uninstall updates). I recommend leaving these records for
a period of at least a month to make sure that the update works correctly.

These updates can be removed individually or together. Learn more
    on the update/s go to:

NB: XXXXXX = the actual number, not to mention the "Q" or "Ko."

Once you have removed the uninstall folders/files, then go to control panel,
Add/Remove programs. Select the fix title corresponding Windows on the
Update folder/file you just remove and select Remove. You will get a
Windows error. This is because you deleted the uninstall folder/files.

  • How to free up disk space for the database file

    Hi experts BDB.

I use bdb4.6.21 transaction Btree access method, found that after vacuum db db-> truncate, the size of the db file has changed. How to free up disk file db space? It can be configured?

    Thank you

    Min

    Hi Min,

What Mike says is that you do not expect that the empty space after an operation of truncation (for example a delete or update that empties a page) in the database (empty pages) to return to the file system and therefore to see the physical file size decreases.

The next section of the documentation explaining this: required disk space

Space released by removing the key/data pairs in a Btree database or Hash is never returned in the file system, even if it is reused when possible. This means that the databases Btree and hash are to develop alone. If enough key is deleted from a database which shrinks the underlying file is desirable, use the DB-> compact() method to recover disk space. Alternatively, you can create a new database and copy the folders of the former into it.

So, as Mike suggested, you can dump and reload the data into a new database, or copy data from the existing/old database to a new (to remove the old database and rename a new one the old name), or you can try to compact the database using the method compact().

If you use compact(), then in order to force the return of empty for the file system pages when possible, use the DB_FREE_SPACE flag and try to avoid using an explicit transaction (use a NULL tnxid pointer, so this BDB will use internally of several transactions that will be engaged periodically to avoid locking large sections of the tree).

When you use the compaction in order to free up space and return pages from database empty in the file system that it is generally recommended to repeat Compact with a value low 'compact_fillpercent '.  In addition, the following output statistics fields in the structure DB_COMPACT, compact_pages_truncated and compact_pages_free should be examined to determine if there is a point, continuing to run the compaction with the same compact_fillpercent.  If the values are strict positive it is then compact() calling again with the same compact_fillpercent (and specify the DB_FREE_SPACE flag).  The compact algorithm allows a single pass on the pages of the database;  pages so not empty at the end of the file will prevent the free pages (which are placed on the free list) to be returned to the file system.

    Kind regards

    Andrei
