Incompatibility of pages with the iMac

I'm running El Capitan (OS - X 10.11.5 on my iMac and I have version 4.3 of Pages.)  I thought I had the latest version of the Pages on my iMac. I have developed a paper (on iCloud drive) I want to keep locally on my iMac. When I try to open it on my iMac, it says that I don't have the correct version, and I have to go to the App store to get the latest version.  When I go to the App store to get Pages, it shows OPEN instead of download.  I understand (I think) what happened, Pages is no longer a program that runs on a Mac, but only in iCloud. I want this file on my computer and I want the latest version of the Pages on my Mac.

Is it possible more?

The history of Pages is a compatibility of conflicting documents and features snake pit.

Any document created with Pages for iCloud or v5 Pages on Mac, being directly backward compatible with Pages ' 09, the latter will complain. If you have been courted by the red light on the title bar of the document, close the document, but will not quit the Pages ' 09. As long as the Pages ' 09 is running, it will be an ambush each attempt to open a document Pages, be it a document ' 09 or v5 document. When he meets a v5 document, it will tell you that the index.xml file is missing or that you need a newer version of Pages - even when the last v5.6.2 is installed. You need to stop formally Pages ' 09 each time you are finished with it to have this problem vanish.

The only way that you can visually tell if a document's Pages ' 09 or v5 is to mark the first with a blue label and the second with a yellow label.

You should never open and save a document in Pages ' 09 any rejection of a new Pages, because the latter is a subset of the functionality that is important, and not support layout of features or form will be truncated or deleted altogether. Use copies of your originals of Pages ' 09.
