incompatible drive after drive letters reformat Windows 7

I use Windows 7 64-bit.

I have 2 hard drives each partitioned inot 2 discs.
HDD0 was and is drive C and M.
HDD1 was D and S, but was dynamic- changed base, reformatted and repartitioned.
(may be mentioned that before that, D drive was actually 2 separate sections - now a). After that, the machine displays the new drive letter is D, as H with no option to change this, letter D is not availalble on the list, nor is it clearly assigned to any other device in the computer management/storage/disk management. However when I look at windows Explorer it is a device marked with the letter D - it's a nonexistent DVD player.

I guess that's a function of the BIOS to find and assign letters but do not know how to get the drive assignment D back where it belongs and lose the nonexistent DVD.

No idea how I can reassign d to the hard disk partition that contains all the data pointed to by things like my documents , etc?

Hello
Thank you for contacting Microsoft Community.

Since this is a non-existent DVD player, search for all device emulators that emulate DVD players. In such a case, you don't see the drive in Management\Storage\Disk computer management. If so, disable all these readers virtual and them trying to change drive letters. Include software virtual drive Daemon Tools, PowerISO, MagicISO, etc..

Drive letters are assigned by Windows and BIOS looks in it. BIOS monitors hardware components only. UNIX based operating system (Linux, Mac) doesn't have this drive letter format, but still working with the same hardware as Windows.

  • Media Player 12 does not recognize removable media (drive letters, sd cards, compact flash, usb, android phones drives) as a synchronized device. Running under 7 64-bit.

Tried and tried to make it work. According to announcements of Microsoft on removable media, you can synchronize however every time I try to get Media Player 12 to sync it search devices and just empty. I have connected devices and they have drive letters in Windows Explorer. I even clicked on the link 'open as a portable device' in Windows Explorer and then went back to media player and it doesn't. I can open whatever music is on the device in the file menu in media player. In mp 11 I could synchronize throughout the day with my removable devices. I just thought they had disabled this feature until I read that you're supposed to be able to do. I connected my Samsung Captivate as memory mass and tried as well, but obviously missed. I plugged as an MTP device and in Windows Explorer, the Autoplay option is "Sync digital media files to this device using Windows Media Player". So I think this will be a safe work, I try several times, restart the computer and the phone. Recognized again in Windows Explorer, everything seems like there should be no driver issue, but Media Player still does not recognize my camera! Help!

Update: I left a removable USB enclosure to connect for three years and a half hours. I've forgotten about it with media player running, came back and noticed, it was listed as a device in media player. So it looks like you could synchronize this right? FAKE! I dragged music to synchronize with it and the sync button is grayed. A lot of space on the device. Well, what about MP now recognizes the drive, I'll unplug the unit and then plug it back in and maybe will correct some glitch MP knows. Wrong again! New MP can't find the device! I thought that software/computers were supposed to get faster not taking 3.5 hours to connect a device and then maybe someday in the future, you can synchronize your device. But at this point don't still no luck. I just thought that Microsoft has decided to get rid of the features within the MP to synchronize removable devices because I could never get this far until reading last night it is supposed to work with key cards, usb sd and removable media. After having no luck in getting MP to reconnect to my USB stick, I erased the cache device thinking that would help, but no, he didn't.

Another update: when I connect my phone as a MTP device, AutoPlay rises and there is an option to synchronize with Windows Media Player. When I click on this option, MP opens and then said: "searching for devices" and never find the "SGH-I897" (Samsung Captivate). Anyway if I go up as mass storage or the DPW Windows device sees and I can move the files, but cannot get the Media Player to find it or recognize it! It should be simple enough for where Windows Media Player should be.

It worked for me, once put into automatic I clicked on the Start button and the rebooted enumerator. I restarted WMP and there was my flash drive in the synchronization domain.

    Thank you!!

  • Satellite P70-A01D: change the drive letters after the 2nd SSD upgrade

I think it's a generic UEFI / Win 8.1 question (not according to model).

However, FWIW, I have a Satellite P70-A01D (bought locally here in Australia).

    It is a victory of 16 GB 17.3 inch Gen4 i7 4700MQ Intel HM86 8.0 64-bit RAM.
    http://www.MyToshiba.com.au/products/computers/satellite/P70/psplpa-01d002/specifications

I updated the OS to Win 8.1

The P70 is supplied with a drive Bay HARD vacuum #2 - I bought a 250 GB Samsung 840 EVO SSD that I want to use as the main system disk / boot Win 8.1.

I installed this SSD in bays #2 and from there I had no problem using the wizard of Samsun cloning software provided with the SSD (VCC 4.0) to clone my 1 TB on the SSD system.

There are a lot of instructions from Samsun and around the web on how to clone and "substitute" of a HDD with a SSD - however there are much less when it comes to 'Add' the SSD - in the #2 Bay - while always keeping the original HDD fully functional as an additional drive.

After execution of the cloning software, I tried just go into the settings of the UEFI on reboot and change the order of the boot drive placing the SSDS over HARD drive.

It worked but there are obviously questions still as I had not renamed readers SSD worked as system but he was editing as D: and HARD drive was still C: and most of the system/application paths were always scheduled to access C:!

It led to the crash and restart cycles of the Bureau (? & or explorer.exe?) and two consistent error messages:
-"SkyDrive engine Sync host has stopped working".
-"Host for the synchronization setting process has stopped working".

I saw in the Control Panel-Administrative Tools-Computer Management-Online Storage-online-online right click on each drive disk management online online that I can access > however
    (a) I'm not sure if the solution I need is this simple;
    (b) nervous about change of letter on a disk while running the system; and
    (C) uncertain steps in order of evolution [IE. C: (non - sys) becomes M; D: (sys) becomes C:...

At the moment via UEFI I'm back to working with the system on the HARD disk rather than on the SSD seems stable and without compromise of my screwing around!

Apologies for the long post by train to make sure to include all relevant information. I think that my final goal is double win bootable 8.1 / Ubuntu 12.04 of the SSDS probably with Ubuntu on a 50 GB partition leaving 200 GB (enough?). I want to keep a slab of SSD space available for photo and video editing: +/-100 GB!

I wondered simply assign new letters to readers, however the notes at the bottom of http://windows.microsoft.com/en-au/windows7/change-add-or-remove-a-drive-letter state:

You cannot change a drive letter if the drive is a system partition or a boot partition.

    Suggestions please?

    Hello

I think you could try to change the letter to readers as suggested in the Microsoft article.
Where this is not possible, try to use 3rd party such as GParted software.
    http://gparted.org/LiveUSB.php

You could try changing the drive letters might start to the top of the unit using the live USB version.
But it might be possible that your system would not initialize correctly after this change.

So you should not forget to mark the partition as bootable.

    Hi RachelH_7997,

You can edit the BIOS (Basic Input Output System) settings or replace the CD/DVD drive and check if the problem persists. If you are not comfortable to run, you can contact the manufacturer of your computer for help.

    Note:
change BIOS / chipset can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from starting properly. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the configuration of the BIOS/chipset can be solved. Changes to settings are at your own risk.

  • How can I boot from the Windows 7 Installation CD so that I can reformat the hard drive before reinstalling Windows 7?

How can I boot from the Windows 7 Installation CD so that I can reformat the hard drive before reinstalling Windows 7?  I have already reinstalled Windows 7 from the CD, but that has not solved my problems.  When I put the factory CD in my CD player, it won't always boot from the CD.  When I put my Windows 7 Ultimate CD in the CD drive, it doesn't always start from the CD.         I realize that the reformatting is not always necessary, but I caught a few viruses (despite anti-virus running) and I need to start with a clean hard drive.

You must go into the BIOS and change the boot on CD order
    first push.

How to get into your BIOS? It is not dependent on Windows, but on what he
motherboard/BIOS card that you have. In fact, you need access to the
BIOS before Windows begins to start. A common method is to press
the key delete when you turn on first, but this is not necessarily true

There is often a message here to tell you what to do. If this is not the case, check

  • Media Player Library question after the drive letters changed - Solution found

I wanted to share a solution to a problem that I found and after searching on Google, I found no answer.  But after some perseverance I managed to fix it myself.

I installed Win 7 & got to read all of my media files in WMP12, no problem.  However, I changed the drive letters on drives where my video, music and photo files were required, then lost all the details of the library.

I thought I could rebuild the media player library by updating the files included in the relevant libraries, but it did not work.  I tried various other corrections posted (mainly by deleting all files in WMP library so he could rebuild), but without success.  What I found worked was:

    Close WMP and Media Center
Remove all the libraries (music, pictures, video) file paths, so no files have been included.
    Run Regedit
Search for all references to the old drive letter paths & modify registry data show new car path (for example, my music was on E:\My music, after assigning new drive letter, as it's on the music of H:\My, so I searched for all instances of music E:\My replace E) : by: :)
    Restarted
    A run WMP
Added the new path of the folder in the library
Hey presto, he began to rebuild the music library!

Hope this helps someone else that I spent several hours of frustration of trying to understand this one!

Thank you. A few trips to REGEDIT and I finally found him. There were two places «...» Of the Shell folders' and '... User Shell Folders ". After making sure that both had updated letters my multimedia files are fluid in. Thanks again!

  • The specific letters are not available under Windows 7 drive letters

    1.) bought a new computer - a Windows 7.

2.) proposed two hard drives from my old computer to the new computer.

Each 1.5 TB drive has a single NTFS partition.

(3.) I want to use the same drive letters, I used to have for these two partitions: Z: and G:

Z: assigning to any readers was no problem.

Assigning G: the other drive is impossible: Windows simply does not present G: as one of the options.  Available drive letters are ABEFMNOPQSTUVW.    The letters of drive in use are

C (the primary partition on the new hard drive in original)

    D (DVD player)

F (one of the hard drive from the old computer has moved new computer)

    L (USB HDD)

R (mapped to profile just to keep simple traces, make it easy to find in the Solution Explorer, etc.).

Z (one of the hard drives from the old computer has moved new computer)

Even if I unplug the USB stick, unplug Z and don't map r: whereupon, letter G ever becomes available for anything.  I can change F to an easily - available drive letter and return to F - but I can't change it to G.

How G in the drop-down list with all the other available drive letters?  By the way, where the hell are I, J and K?

How G in the drop-down list with all the other available drive letters?  By the way, where the hell are I, J and K?

The computer has a multi card reader? If so, they probably use these drive letters.

    To show empty drives:
    1. open Windows Explorer.
    2. click on organize.
    3. click on folder and Search Options and click the view tab.
    4. uncheck the hide drives empty in the computer folder, and then click OK.

Check if it shows the missing disks and you can now assign.

Original title: after the last update of Windows (the one with all dll changes) Windows said my C: drive wasn't patation, non-functional. anyone has this problem

After a check in the event viewer, I found a lot of mistakes, my dll file where not pick up markets and does not. Checking system files could not run, and most of the file system soon just disappeared. Debug system, it was a joke because half of the Debug program has been corrupted. In easy words after the execution of Windows 7 months it really took me by surprise.
