incorrect unread number in hotmail

My wife and I use Windows Live Hotmail, on VISTA 32-bit, but on different computers (she has Internet Explorer version 9.0.2). His Hotmail, the number of e-mails "unread" came to 121 while we were on vacation - then remained at 121, after we came back and she had read all his emails.  Currently, when each new email arrives, it simply adds 1 number of 121frozen, and when these new emails are read, the total 'no read' backup down the 'frozen' number of 121.  I tried his Hotmail on my computer, it does the same thing on my computer than on his own and I don't have a problem with my Hotmail.

Another problem that may have shown at the same time, is when she using the 'up' or "down" arrows to move, up and down a page of Hotmail (ONLY on Hotmail), the reaction is very slow and jerky. "  The answer to sound by using these same "up and down keys" is normal on everything else on his computer.

Is it possible to "freshen up" his copy of Hotmail without losing all the information currently on his Hotmail - or is there another way to slove the problem?

Ideas - and thank you!
