InDesign CS4 repeated crashes

Hello

We use InDesign CS4 for several months now and suffer repeated failures.  Our systems support entrepreneurs focused on the network and say that it's a software problem.  Works on 2 PCs, Windows 7 operating system.

Initaially we thought it was the network latency issues, and certainly the number of accidents decreased since we installed the InDesign files and image on the hard drive of the PC rather than on a network storage device.  However, the application is always prone to crashing.

Some actions appear to be an accident; but not always.  Application of character styles, applying master pages to existing document pages, spreads of duplication and to move pages in the document are all risky actions.

The symptom of an accident are sometimes just a gel, without any warning associated with.  This requires a CTRL-ALT-DEL to appear the the windows Task Manager showing InDesign as does not.  Otherwise, you get a warning of InDesign that she met an unexpected problem and that it must stop.

Now, we work exclusively of our drives hard (I even tried to work with the unplugged network cable to make sure that I'm not inadvertently linked to a resource on a sort of network system), we get fewer accidents; Maybe just 5 or 6 per day.  Until he could be 10-20.

Any ideas?

Hello

1. indesign, not updated it should update with patch 6.0.6

2. find out the path UNC also some that can happen because of the trajectory.

Thank you

  • InDesign CS4 still crashes always

I posted this the other day, but now it's saying that my question has been answered, it wasn't. I still really need help/advice/input/information as soon as POSSIBLE.

I was never able to properly run InDesign CS4 on my 15 "MacBook Pro, I bought in 2007.  (OS X 10.4.11) I did have problems with one of the other software/programs in the suite. The program seems to install fine, but whenever I try to open the program or .indd file, InDesign most never made is that it is open a new file or view the file I tried to open it until the program stops responding and I have to force quit.

I've had CS4 for about a year now, and I got new disks to install about 6 months ago because one of my originals got scratched. I had several long conversations with Adobe customer service, of which none have made any difference. I ran clean Script twice, by deleting the AdobeFnt11.lst file, and I tried to download a trial version at least 3 times.

I am a student in graphic design to transport and I was put in with needing to go in the laboratories of the campus to do any work to InDesign so long because I did not absolutely need to use it very frequently so far. It is important for me to make the InDesign to work on my MacBook Pro as soon as POSSIBLE.  I can't afford to pay hundreds of dollars for a diagnosis/repair if I could avoid at all, much less the significant amount of time I have to go without my computer to do, so I'd really like to have more options to explore. Help! Ideas, anyone? Pretty please?

Another thing to try on OS X is to a "secure reboot," which installs only those plug-ins that are provided by Apple. Turn with the "shift" key down. It'll take more time to start (because it runs the utility disc protocols as well). Behavior of InDesign after the restart secure can help you decide if this is a problem with your computer (if it crashes) or a problem with a third-party software (if it isn't).

    Good luck...

Finally, after looking through the forums, I thought it would be worth it to see what people here have to say before you wait an hour for a follow-up with technical support Adobe still - which has always been a very long call that ends with me something that takes too much time to download or complete it is wise to stay on the phone with them for when it ends. This last time, it was them telling me to download the trial version once again and of course it did not work. I have since executing Script Clean and reinstalled the entire suite of my drives creative and again, the only thing that will make InDesign's crash.

  • InDesign CS4 crashes on startup after the migration to the new iMac

    Hello

I recently used Migration Assistant to move the contents of my old iMac running OS X 10.5.8 to my new iMac running OS X 10.7.3.  Unfortunately, whenever I try to launch InDesign CS4, it crashes without giving me an error message. I already could not start Illustrator CS4 on this new iMac and I received this error message:

    "Fatal error - missing component Library/Application Support/Adobe/Adobe Version Cue CS4/customer 4.0.0/VersionCue.framework.

and I was able to transfer the file Client 4.0.0 on my new iMac and Illustrator CS4 please stand up and running.

What can I do to get InDesign running on my new iMac?

You will not be able to download Adobe's CS4. They have downloads of the current version.

Are you sure? (I'm confused about this and my Adobe Downloads aren't the consumer normal ones so I can't easily check, but I have a number of reasons to be skeptical... certainly old volume licensees can continue to (re) - download old versions.)

  • InDesign CS4 crash when printing... "' Macromedia ' apparent culprit...

(Sorry if this has found its way to the bad advice Forum: I can't seem to find a way to the appropriate InDesign CS4 'Community' to publish it in!)

My Mac of InDesign CS4 version 6.0.6 version started crashing when you try to print.

The Crash log shows that the individual has crashed the thread in order to always include the line:

    com.macromedia.Flash Player.authplaylib 0x1c5ac2dd ExternalPlayer_Initialize + 1864739

.. which is repeated twice, with different similar numbers just before and after "ExternalPlayer_Initialize".

I guess that there is a problem with InDesign calling "macromedia. '" Flash Player"instead of Adobe Flash Player, but I don't know where or how to change the words 'macromedia '. Flash Player"to encourage the program runs correctly.

Note: The program has been installed on a Mac that had disappeared and was found and returned, but in the meantime we would have bought a Mac replacement. InDesign has been uninstalled and then some Mac initially lost, and a previous full backup of this Mac was then restored on the new Mac, so that was a complete copy of the original (.. so respect for restrictions on use..)

After that the program was restored on the new Mac, it prints more.

    Any help or suggestions, please?

  • Use of the spell checker crashes InDesign CS4

    Hello

Have installed InDesign CS4 and updated to 6.0.3

But whenever I try to check the spelling in any document or access the dictionary in file > Prefs, InDesign crashes.

Have done all the usual checks, repair disk permissions, set cell former InDesign Prefs file, then recreated fresh file, not identified any conflict in the Console, run as an Application only on Mac InDesign. I have no third-party plug-in in the plug in folder, set up the default printer in the Print Center, logged on as another user who has administrator privileges, troubleshooted all my fonts, defragged the hard drive and checked all hardware.

Still InDesign crashes when you try to access the dictionary in file > Prefs, or simply to check spelling Edit > check spelling in all - new or previously created document.

In fact the first time check I'm using spelling (Edit > check spelling) in a document, the spelling will appear, but with a US instead of a British spellcheck, I can't change that in file > because InDesign Prefs, it blocks.

Then if I try to check spelling Edition > check spelling a second wheel rotation, the time appears and bang - crash repeatedly.

InDesign CS4 6.0.3 Mac OS 10.5.7 running on a Mac Pro 2.8 GHz Quad Core Intel Xeon with 2 GB of RAM, ATI Radeon HD 2600XT.

The CS3 clean script would be a mistake, I think. There is a version of CS4, but which would remove the other CS4 applications as well.

Being a Windows user, I'm not well versed in all potential problems in OS X, but this kind of accident is sometimes related to fonts. You have any kind of font utility, you can run to check for damaged fonts? You use a font manager?

What about the other third-party plugins? You must disable ALL the non Adobe plugins and test again. Alternatively, you can rename the folder to SING, even if problems that have generally crash at startup, I think.

Have you tried to create a new account clean and stable in this? What permission repair, Disk Warrior and other typical functions of Mac maintenance?

  • InDesign CS4 crashes when converting 1-column text box with a drop shadow to the col-2 (or more)

I use InDesign CS4 in Windows XP Pro 64-bit, 6 GB of RAM. If I create a column 1 text box, fill it with a color, add a drop shadow, and then add text, everything is fine. If I try to change it to 2-columns (or), InDesign freezes/crashes. I thought at first that it is perhaps because the case was shot, but it happens even if the case is not turned. If I remove the shadow and try to change it, it works.

Anyone know why this is happening or if there is a known bug or fix?

    Thank you

XP 64 is totally supported. No troubleshooting should begin there.

  • InDesign CS4 crashing on Mac OS 10.6.7

After my G5 has recently decreased, I start using the iMac with Snow Leopard for customer jobs. Today I started working in InDesign CS4, but found that I could not well before it would break. I tried to delete the preferences, then tried to remove the fonts, then tried to restart and permissions running. I've been on the internet trying to find the answer. Checked the Adobe Forums. Even consulted Adobe help Console, but the guy who was told to the forums.

Does anyone know if there is a solution to this crashing outside of having to upgrade to CS5? I use InDesign as much as I used to since I work primarily on the websites now. I would prefer not to have to be upgraded.

    Linda

Oh Hey! This is real progress!

First of all, having verified Rosetta is certainly a problem. Make sure that it remains disabled.

The SINGDLL is a known issue. As long as you do not use Asian fonts, you can safely follow the steps in this technote from Adobe to solve.

Credit to Joel Cherney to remind in a recent thread with a similar deadlock / crash: Re: CS3, CS4, and CS5 Crash when click on.

You can type "sysctl kern.exec" line in the Terminal. But it is probably useless - who was trying to understand why InDesign was executed in PPC mode, but we know the answer - because the Rosetta checkbox has been checked.

  • InDesign CS4 crashes when exporting to PDF

Try to export a file from InDesign CS4 to PDF. That's always worked before but one file won't work. Program seems to stall or take so long, I think that it is broken down.

There is a progress bar that tells you what the program actually does? I remember seeing it in earlier versions, and it helped identify problems.

If not, is there a troubleshooting procedure I can work through?

    Thanks for any help

Well, dkd. alkje; olhp [oihjl, there isn't really a set-loans troublesome documents troubleshooting procedure. If you are not yet see the dialog ongoing export with the bar of progression, there is something seriously wrong with your file or your InDesign.

Yet, no need (yet) to resort to drastic measures. Try this: the first half of your export document. If it works, export the second half of your document. If this also works, you have a problem and the two halves. The two halves can be supported by Acrobat, just stick to the other and you have a single complete PDF, but the problem still persists.

    If one half of your document exports well and the other half does not, the part without work again in two halves to export. Repeat this until you have that one page left who does not - export and it's caused trouble. It could be a picture, an image, one placed (PDF or EPS<- hint:="" trouble!),="" or="" even="" something="" like="" a="" single="" space="" in="" a="" font="" that="" indesign="" does="" not="" particularly="" like="" --="" at="" least="" you'll="" have="" a="" clue="" to="" where="" to="" scan="" for="" troublesome="">

If this results in nothing, he can point to a messy file. Sometimes crass and undesirable add up in the corners of the ID files, and save under could clean it up for you. If this is not the case, go to more drastic step described in the present:

  • InDesign CS4 crashes when you place the Word document

    Hello

I'm having a real problem by placing a Word document in InDesign CS4. It crashes everytime! I found that if I turn off the 'import inline graphics' it correctly places the document. but enabling this option blocks InDesign.

I tried to save in rich TEXT format and even do a simple copy - paste, but the result is the same: InDesign crashes.

  • Cannot re - install CS4 suite of the crash of Indesign CS4

I've been using Indesign CS4 software for about 2 years on my iMac. But 2 weeks ago Indesign CS4 couldn't work.

I decided to uninstall and reinstall again.

However, when entering the serial number, it does not recognize the serial number of the product you purchased Adobe Creative Suite 4 Design Premium.

    My computer details:

    iMac 7.1

    Mac OC X version 10.5.8

2.8 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor

    4 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM memory

As I could not enter the serial number, I am currently using a trial version of a month.

How to re - install without this problem.

Try the steps mentioned in the links below.

  • InDesign CS4 to reinstall after a system crash. I purchased CS4 a few years in order to update InDesign CS2. Of course, I have my S/N for CS4, but, during the process of resettlement, I give the S/N of InDesign CS2, which is lost!

I can't reinstall InDesign CS4 which was purchased as an update to an old InDesign CS2. I have the serial number of CS4, but I lost the S/N of CS2, which is necessary.

    Thanks for help.

Check your Adobe account online and see if the CS2 serial number is registered there.  If you have saved CS2 when you initially installed, they could find.

Create (export) a PDF file and try to print from Acrobat/Reader. Impression is not one of the strong points of ID.
