  Just to add to the response of cor - el, in my case (identical) was specifically the complement DivX HiQ, worm 2.1.0.900. As soon as I turned it off, the tabs started to behave normally again.

  I started Thunderbird in safe mode by shift-click on the application icon. I found that the problem has disappeared. I uninstalled the extension 'Identity selector' (version 1.93) and restarted in normal mode and the issue had still gone. However, I then reinstalled identity selector and the issue has yet been set. So, I don't know if simply start in safe mode, then rebooting in normal mode, or if the uninstall and reinstallation of identity selector is what makes the difference.

  This problem only occurs when using Firefox. Explorer works very well.

  You can have an add-on or plugin that. Disable them one by one and see if you can find the culprit. Or disable everything at a time using Firefox to solve the issues in Safe Mode and see if the modules are causing the problem.

  I don't want to download an application. I would rather add a new string in any config or just change those there to false. It makes my life as a rather hard work, to be forced to go all the way back at the end of my list after you move a tab just to have to do it again.   Just go in the Panel. Programs and features and then click on the left of "view installed updates" and find Windows Internet Explorer 9, and then you can uninstall it.  You should know that it is installed automatically via Windows Update, so you'll need to keep it to be reinstalled.  I think you can go Windows Update manually, and then it will ask you, then you can't deny it there and it should stick.

  The easiest way is to use the add-on of status-4-Evar. With it, you can choose to not display the messages State or hover url preview, or rather display them in the bar modules or the address bar.
