Indicates a Windows XP invalid disc.

OK, so I just finished to build my own gaming PC, and my friend let me borrow a copy of Windows XP, he said he used once, but it should still work. I put the CD in the drive, and it starts fine. I accepted the terms, but he said "the installation program can't find a previous version of Windows installed on your computer." Here is a picture of my screen. Now, I admit that Windows XP is no longer supported, but could you please help? Thank you!

You try to do a clean install with an upgrade CD.

You need one of the operating systems listed to use this CD for installation.

You don't need to have one of the mentioned OSs installed, only the installation for the required OS component CD.

  • ProBook 4740S comes with Windows 8 install disc or not?

    Hello

I bought my dad a HP Probook 4740 S nearly 2 years ago. I remember when I bought, the description says that Windows 8 but only Windows 7 preinstalled. Now, I would like to upgrade to win 8 but can not find the disc.

I googled a bit, but unfortunately all resources referring to a Windows 8 media disc which I can't find.

I find that a blue sticker says windows 8 at the back of the laptop, which let me think it may come with the right to move to 8 for free...

Please let me know if there is a way to recover the product key / free upgrade to 8 with this laptop.

    Thank you very much

    Jason

You are the very welcome, Jason.

Normally, it's on a white sticker on the bottom of the laptop.

Remove the battery and look under there too.

If you don't, then it will appear in the system information window in the BIOS.

    Hi Happyrockgeek,

Welcome to Microsoft Windows 7 answers Forum!

This problem occurs if the Windows security .dll files are incorrectly registered.

To resolve this problem, you can perform the two methods of troubleshooting, check if the problem is resolved.
    Method 1:
Run (Checksur.exe) system update readiness tool.
To do this, follow these steps:
    1. download and run the system update readiness tool. This tool runs an ad hoc analysis of inconsistencies that might prevent future maintenance operations. For more information about how to download and run the Checksur.exe tool, click on the number below to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
    http://support.Microsoft.com/default.aspx/KB/947821
    2. try to install the updates again.

    Methods 2.
    Reset the Windows Update components.
    1. to reset the Windows Update components automatically, click the fix button in the link below.
    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/971058
    2. click run in the file download dialog box and follow the steps described in the fix it Wizard.

I also suggest you to install the latest version of Windows Installer 4.5.
Follow the link below to download:

and you can also try to install after you turn off the firewall.

    It will be useful.

  • Caught a virus. Want to just erase the HD and reinstall. Cannot get Windows original XP discs do. Help?

Click son on some site that I can download a Trojan horse.  Disabled Malwarebytes and AVG update did not find. Saved that I need and now want to erase the hd and reinstall.  Cannot get computer to read what whatsoever. I myself once in safe mode, but now it tells me that it cannot find a hard disk.  I can refer to boot from the CD drive, but it gives me a blue screen error "cannot find a hard disk. Any help?

Your computer most likely has SATA drive and the Windows XP installation disc does not include the SATA controller drivers so Setup can not 'see' the hard drive.  You have several options:

    1. to detect the drive, you must use the F6 method to provide the drivers of controller for the installation program, note that when you use the F6 method, the pilots MUST be provided on a diskette, the installation program will not accept the drivers from other media sources.

Adding third-party or updated during the installation of Windows driver
Mass storage drivers and the Setup process

    2. you can integrate the drivers into your installation CD:

    3. you can go into the BIOS and change the SATA controller in IDE mode and the Windows Installer will be able to detect the drive.  Most of the BIOS have this option is available, if you don't you will need to use option 1 or 2 above.

I have an old computer with windows XP that crashed recently. The thing is that when I bought the computer, it did not come with an XP Setup disk. So can someone please tell me how I can get a windows XP installation disc? I tried several ways to fix the computer. I installed a hard drive with win98 and tried to recover my files. Windows XP disks are no longer manufactured or sold. You * may * be able to find a place with an old stock for sale, but it is not very likely. Close your only choice is to purchase a used copy somwhere (but I would avoid eBay, where any software you buy is probably hacked).

  • Where can I get a Windows Vista installation disc?

My old Acer laptop crashed about a year & a half.  I bought a new laptop.  The other day I plugged it to see what would happen.  He came & the guest a insert the Windows Vista installation disc.  Where can I get this drive?  Windows Vista came pre-installed with the laptop, so I do not have a disk with him.  Acer does not know because the laptop is out of warranty.  They told me to take the laptop to a computer repair shop.  Well, I don't want to spend that much money to find out what was on the laptop when it crashed.  Any suggestions?

    Hello

There is no Windows Vista downloads available from Microsoft.

As you never received a recovery disk when you bought your laptop Acer here is how to use the internal recovery Partition command which must be...

"How do I restore my computer using the eRecovery Management program outside of Windows?

    http://Acer.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/A_ID/2631

    To start the system recovery:

    1. Restart the computer.
    2. When the Acer logo appears on the screen, press the left Alt and F10 keys.
    3. If you are prompted with a Microsoft Windows splash screen, press the Enter key.
    4. etc.

And if you have problems with the help of the Partiiton of recovery and Acer supplies more recovery media for previous models preinstalled Vista, you may need to use this method:

You can also borrow and use a Microsoft Vista DVD, which contains the files for the different editions of Vista (Home Basic, Home Premium, Business and Ultimate) must be installed. The product key on your computer / Laptop box determines what Edition is installed.

Other manufacturers recovery DVDs are should not be used for this purpose.

And you need to know the version of 'bit' for Vista, as 32-bit and 64-bit editions come on different DVDs

"How to do a clean install and configure with a full Version of Vista '

And once the operating system is installed, go to your computer manufacturer's website and get the latest drivers for your particular model or laptop computer.

And phone Activation may be necessary when you use the above installation method.

    How to reinstall Vista

Contact the manufacturer of the laptop computer and ask them to send you to vista recovery disks to reinstall the operating system back as it was when you bought it

they do it for a nominal cost of $

also ask them if you have a recovery partition on your hard drive to get back to the way you bought

you would normally press F8, F9, F10 or F11 or Alt + F10 or 0 to start to start the recovery process according to the manufacturer

Ask them of the exact key sequence

or borrow a vista microsoft dvd; not a HP, Acer recovery disk etc

Make sure that you borrow the correct 32-bit or 64-bit microsoft dvd to your computer

  • Windows 7 recovery disc - where is it?

    Hello

I've had my laptop for 20 months now... apprently only a 12 month warranty but the EU law says it has to be a 24 month one.

Anyway I need my Windows 7 installation disc I need to re - install windows 7, and used to come with new computers and laptops before they saw that they could save money from these discs. Apprently I have to pay £33 to get one, but I don't see why I'm the one who has to pay the money when he should have came with a in the first place.

Y at - there a way around this or something built in Winows 7 were I could burn a disc?

    Thank you

    Hello

There are a few options for you to consider.

    1. if you do not already done, see if you can still use Recovery Manager to create a set of recovery disks/USB support as shown in the link below.

Create recovery media - Windows 7.

2 another option that you might consider is to create your own Windows 7 installation disc.

Before you try the following, make sure that you can always read the character product activation key 25 on your label Windows COA (5 blocks of 5 alphanumeric games).

An example of a COA label can be seen here.

Also, if possible, back up the folder swsetup which lie at the root of the C drive.

You can create a Windows 7 installation disc you using another PC - just download the good Disk Image ( that must be the same version that originally came with your laptop ) from the link below and use an app like ImgBurn to burn the ISO correctly on a blank DVD - a guide on the use of ImgBurn to write an ISO on a disc is here.  These Images are clean and a very respected source (Digital River).

    Windows 7 sp1-iso-official-32-bit-and-64-bit

Use the disk to perform the installation, enter the activation key of Windows on the label of the COA at the request and once the installation is complete, use ' 'phone Method' described in detail in the link below to activate the operating system -this made method supported by Microsoft and is popular with people who want to just have a new installation of Windows 7 without additional software load normally comes with OEM installations.

    http://www.kodyaz.com/articles/how-to-activate-Windows-7-by-phone.aspx

In regards to the drivers etc, you must, if you were able to save the swsetup this will contain all the software and installers of driver for laptop - if you were not able, drivers and software, you can need is found by entering your model number eith. or Nr here.

    Best regards

    Hi James,

1 did you change on your computer?
    2. do you get an error message?

This problem could be related to Mcafee. Please temporarily disable Mcafee and check.

Important note: Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you should not disable your antivirus software. If you need to disable temporarily to install other software, you must reactivate as soon as you are finished. If you are connected to the Internet or a network, while your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.

If the problem does not persist, then there are certainly problems with Mcafee protection. In this case, please contact Mcafee support for assistance.

    Just reply with the results.
