  Hello, welcome.

  The process is automatic and the maximum transfer rate should be about 20 GB/HR. If the process crashes during that long of a time, it's probably because of something internal rather something you're doing wrong.
  For reference purposes, I included this link. It goes into the details of the migration from XP to Vista (and the basic steps you follow). The instructions are for migrating to Vista via the network, but you can easily follow the steps and choose a different option for your specific installation.

  For both machines, I recommend you to prepare for the transfer using the following procedure:
  1. click on START > run

  2 type "msconfig" (without the quotes) and press enter

  3. go to the "Startup" tab and uncheck all the entries displayed

  4. click on 'Apply' at the bottom right

  DO NOT RESTART YOUR COMPUTER AGAIN

  5. click on START > run

  6. Type "cmd" (without the quotes). Right-click on the result at the top of the menu START and select 'run as administrator '.

  7. type chkdsk /r and press enter

  8 allow the system to attempt disassembly of the volume

  9. allow the system to plan restarting

  10. restart your computer

  11 let checkdisk analyze the file system on your hard drive

  12. Once completed, perform the same steps on the other machine

  13. Once completed, repeat the transfer

  • Please, go to the Windows, where Device Manager, expand display adapters.
  • Turn off the graphics card and open Lightroom, go to Lightroom preferences, then the performance tab, and then uncheck the option "use graphics processor.
  • Lightroom farm and go back to Device Manager and activate the graphic card.
  • Open Lightroom and then work in Lightroom and check if it works very well.

• Using Time Machine or the Migration Assistant to transfer information from and old Mac to a new one

  I had to think about upgrading a Macbook Air to a Macbook Pro and have done research on how pretty much everything (files, account icloud, etc.) to move to a new computer so I know how to do it when the time comes. I didn't save my current computer at the time I got it and didn't know whether it was necessary to do it before the transfer. Also, I found two different ways to move information from one mac to another, one way being using the migration wizard, the other via the time machine. The problem is that I've never used time machine (I checked my settings and it is turned off). I was curious to know which option would be the 'best' way and if not never back up my computer would be a problem. (If its possible, could someone also please explain how to back up my computer?)

  I use Time Machine often (and have used since its introduction).  I also upgraded my Mac hardware quite often (about every 18 months).  Whenever I move to a new machine, I use the Migration Wizard (and not Time Machine).  I've never had a problem.

  Then I suggest that you need not Time machine specifically in order to change computers.  However, you really need to keep backups simply because the material is not, and without a backup, you are subject to lose everything you have on your computer.

  I have a 3000 j205 (I think. It says on the tag 9686-A12) and one of my friends set up to dual boot with XP that cannot access internet and Susa, which works well. I called customer service and was told that since my mother bought the machine (she died a year from Cancer) that they could only talk to him. It is a Vista box that has never worked directly for her (she dropped out after 3 months of trying to make it work, technical support to come and even my brother and children trying to run more than 20 minutes on the net) I realized that running the network card drivers for XP are missing. He sees even the router wireless in the line and the Comcast cable modem, but he always swears that the internet isn't here. Any ideas? The Vista of origin had the same problem trying to access the net.

  If the machine came originally with Vista, then there probably the Marvell ethernet driver.

  Scroll to network and you'll see the listed Marvell ethernet driver.
