Inspiron 1720 - how to select disc HARD great replacement

My 1720 tells me that my HARD drive is about to fail .  I have backups, saved every night, of the complete transmission.  The primary transmission is SATA and is a Toshiba 500 GB 2.5 ", or at least that's what he was supposed to be, maybe it was a 320.  It shows only 193 GB.  Advertising for the 1720 said 500 GB using two hard drives, so I guess that the limits of the BIOS of the total that can be solved.  I would like to know what maximum size of HARD drive I can use on this computer.  What are the limiting factors?  If it is available, if I could buy a 500 GB drive or more and the format into two or three or more partitions to take advantage of the full disk size?  The Toshiba HDD replaced the original drive provided by Dell (I think it's SATA 160 GB, showing 136 GB) that I have as a second drive.  Do you have recommendations on the size and the replacement of product?  Is there an other BIOS that would allow the biggest readers?  (I think my BIOS is the latest available Version A09)  Thank you.

That's what Belarc Advisor told my readers (disk 0 is the main, disc 1 is now available as a part of alternative/backup, disk 2 is an SD card and 3 original drive is external HD - player Note 0 indicates failure!)

(500,11 GB) - 3 disk HDD
Ricoh SD/MMC device drive (2.03 GB) - disc 2
ST9160821AS [hard drive] (160,04 GB) - drive 1, s/n 5MA8RYL3, rev 3.CDE,SMART location: healthy
TOSHIBA MK3252GSX [hard drive] (320,07 GB) - drive 0, s/n X8EBT3W4T, rev LV011D, SMART failure

The volumes are:

c: (NTFS on drive 0) * operating system on this drive 186.80 GB 46,26 GB free
d: (NTFS on drive 0) Dell restore sector 21.47 GB 15.86 GB free
f: (NTFS on drive 1) hot spare 146.54 GB 137,67 GB free
g: (NTFS on drive 1) former Dell restaurant sector 10,74 GB 10.34 GB free
i: (NTFS on disk 3) external HD not sure what it is 42.32 GB 33,77 GB free
k: (NTFS on disk 3) external HD used as backup daily 368.28 GB 188,07 GB free

You can use any SATA hard drive laptop that fits physically system (i.e. 7 - or 9.5 mm discs;)  12.5 mm drives does not).  There is no limit on the ability.

  • Install the second HARD drive in my Inspiron 1720... : () Please help with this one

    Hello

you just bought a faster (7200 RPM) 60 gb 2.5 "SATA (of course) for my Inspiron1720 - idea is to keep the system on it.

Anyway, opened the Bay where are hard disks, and I noticed there is some sort of connector for my current hard drive (the thing has a kind of bent pins to plug the drive hard vertivally)

because I don't want to replace it, to add another, I am devoid of this connector, faq explains only how to replace not add a second.

    Summer:

    http://dellcommunity.com/supportforums/board/message?board.ID=cc_faq&message.ID=350

that read, however it means only (part number) type PATA and SATA got :(

Now, I spent all day in the city, searching ebay and allegro (sort of Polish to ebay ;])

Couldn't find it anywhere, so how can I connect the new drive?

I couldn't find info about it on the net, so it's not a common problem, so how people add new hard drives to their 1720s?

So what now? is it possible to get this connector? what I buy from Dell? : smileymad: (that would really bother me) or should I have got one when I bought my inspiron? (don't have the box at the moment, is in my second home, so can not verify)

Will be much gratefull for info, as it starts to irritate me, can I just plug into my new hard drive in a DELL computer.

    See you soon

Today I received my new Inspiron 1720.

    Intel C2D T9300 (2.5 ghz)

    4 GB of ram

    GForce 8600 m GT

    hard drives 2 * 250gbyte

That's how the day passed by.

-Obtained the computer. The cable is plugged in and he started upward. Everything worked normally and I made a user on the computer, etc..

-Played around with it a bit and was installing updates and all of a sudden he hung up and stoped working.

-J' I waited for an hour in the hope of nothing to take, but to no avail nothing happened. So I hold the powerbutton to restart.

-When I started it again it was taking ages to start and then he says that he had to repair the hard drive.

-J' waited for about 1 hour and there was no progress. So I decided to reinstall completely windows vista Home Premium, had not installed anything anyway. When I did the installation of the new I formatted all partitions of a large more logic a disk 0.

-After the installation was made, I have set user settings, etc. And then I put in the CD Drivers and Utilities and enabled it to AutoRun the CD. and then he hung up again. and once again the previous thing.

I tried solving the problems with the self-test on support thing and it did not help.

He showed me an errormessage with something like 2000-0142.

I can't install direct media, which gives me an error.

If I insert the Vista disc and choose repair I see not all disks, so I downloaded drivers for HARD drive, but I get like 10 different choices and I don't know which one to choose, and they all fail to install anyway.

For now, I'm trying to install a third, but I guess it's just failed again.

And also if I press F6 during the instalation of choose the sata drive and choose where I put it after the download. He finds her, and I select. Then when I press OK the disapear internal hard drives from the list and only the USB drive where the drivers is left.

Help, please. I searched the forums for at least 3 hours and I have not found anything similar.

All I want is that it works normally. For the moment, I can only for use like 5-10 minutes until it breaks down and needs to be reinstalled.

  • How to do a Hard Reset on a HP laptop?

Hard Reset allows you to solve problems of software and hardware

This post looks at HP laptops.

Hello, I will do a quick post on how to do a Hard Reset. A hard or forced Reset clears all the information in the memory of the computer which can restore the functionality. Reset your computer forces the system to erase and restore the software connections between the BIOS and hardware.

Perform a hard or forced reset may fix the following:

    • Windows stops responding
    • Computer stops before Windows loads (no boot, a blinking cursor on a black screen, or errors related to the operating system not found or missing disk)
    • View suddenly turns off and remains empty
    • Software freezes
    • Keyboard unresponsive
    • The computer did not return from standby or sleep mode
    • An external device stops responding (turn off the power to the device in addition to perform the steps in this document)

When you perform a hard reset, you must disconnect or remove all devices. You should start and test the computer itself and then reconnect a device at a time. To solve the high beginning or operational problem, you must run the wizard from the HP Support, or manually install the drivers all updated by Microsoft and HP.

To perform a hard reset, use the following steps:

To perform a hard reset, use the following steps:

    1. Turn off the computer.
    2. Remove the computer from the docking station or port replicator.
    3. Disconnect all external devices connected: displays of devices USB, printers, external storage, etc..
    4. Unplug the laptop AC adapter.
    5. Remove the battery from the compartment to batteries.
    6. Press and hold button power for about 15 seconds, remove any residual electric charge capacitors that protect memory.
    7. Insert the battery and plug the power adapter into the laptop. but do not connect peripheral devices.
    8. Press the power button to turn on the computer.
    9. If a boot menu appears, use the arrow keys to select Start Windows normally , and then press the Enter key.
    10. After you have reconnected each peripheral device, run Windows Update and HP Support Assistant to update all device drivers.

Now, if your computer has a non-removable battery, these steps will not work. Instead, refer to use a Reset forced to solve Hardware and Software questions on laptop with a sealed Non removable b... .

I hope that this solves any problem you can have that happen with your laptop.

    Hello!

What you downloaded exactly on the Toshiba site?

As written Akuma you must install first added value Package you will find also on the Toshiba site. Check this box!

An interesting thing: it does not work if you are using the preinstalled operating system? It should have everything installed for your laptop.

  • How to access the hard drive USB on E3000? Am I missing something?

I have my router configuration fine to the internet, as well as the media server.  I can't understand how to access the hard drive of my laptop, however.  The manual says to put 192.168.1.1 in the field the address of windows Explorer, but it gives me just the 'Setup' page for the router.

Am I missing something simple?  I use Windows XP.

Click on start - go to start > Run/start search and type "\\192.168.1.1" (without the quotes) and press on enter and it should ask the user name and password, the user name and password, use "admin" all lower case, and then click Ok... Now you should be able to see your USB... You must make a right click on it and select "Map network drive" and check the Enable box and below click Finish... It will map the USB on your computer... Once done, you will be able to send and receive data from your computer to the USB...

  • New Inspiron 3650 - how to add an SSD

I recently got my new i7 Inspiron 3650 with a 2 TB HARD drive. I need to add an SSD to the machine and need advice on how to do it.

First question is: is it possible for one SSD + HDD in this computer? Or is it limited to a single player?

Open the case, I see that there are 4 units of SATA data cable (2 available) on the card mother, however there is no available additional power cable. The single power cable has two connectors, a session on the HARD drive and the other to the DVD player. How can I add another cable or splitter to route power to the SSD?

In addition, there are available for a 2.5 drive bays ", but I need an enclosure for mounting the drive. Is there an add-on Dell blue plastic mounting kits available for this? Otherwise, I can get the generic Assembly for this kits.

I would appreciate if any part numbers/accessories from Dell can be recommended to achieve this.

    Thank you.

    Hi Hkhawaja,

Yes, you can certainly have an SSD and a HARD drive, and I suppose you want to put the OS on the SSD.

This thread offers answers to some of your questions. And here is the link to your manual.

I have a link below for a very nice Windows reinstallation guide, which will help you to download an ISO of 10 Windows you can use to install the OS on the new drive.

I have a Dell Inspiron 1720 laptop and I would like to disable the touchpad so that I can move the cursor of the mouse only.

Why? One wonders...  I can type text, when suddenly, the cursor will jump and I tap on the line above on the previous text. This has happened before, when I had first PC, and I've sorted it by disabling the touchpad. However, I have re installed the OS, etc, and everything must be reset to zero.
