Inspiron 17R 5721: get rid of McAfee

In recent years I learned to avoid "bulky" security programs"such as Norton and McAfee.  So, naturally, I deleted using "Your Uninstaller!".  Which seemed to go okay; It was only later that I realized that there was still a lot of related programs and the remaining files.  After my computer started running slower and slower, I decided to try a Windows 8 regenerate.  He studied my computer for some time and advised me before that a number of files and drivers will be missing and I need files or disks with the information.

Is it possible to get the missing software, since nothing is actually with the computer?

The problem is resolved for the moment.  However when McAfee time runs out, I want to remove it.  At this point, I can finish making about what has not worked before--including KILL running McAfee program.  That's what I did the last time - except that I had installed another security program - believe that McAfee had been completely removed.  This combination has slowed things down for analysis.

Next time I'll finish all the levels of Mcafee removal - and disconnect from the Internet while doing so.

If all goes well...

Is it possible to change the system so that it can allocate more of the current 8 GB of RAM and dedicate it to the video card?  He is currently listed at 64 MB, and I need to get up to 256 MB.  I looked in the BIOS, but it doesn't seem to be an option.  Please notify.

The 64M is NOT video memory - it's a hardware z-buffer cache.  The system will allocate video RAM necessary by the requirements of running applications - you can not allocate memory by hand.

If you have integrated Intel or Intel-AMD or Intel-nVidia hybrid video, you will have an application that requires a dedicated video memory that is not your system.

  • How can I get rid of the bar 'Allow' at the top of the screen?

When I go on some websites, (or maybe all), I'm not sure - I get a bar at the top of the screen under the line "Bookmarks", asking me to check 'Allow' or x to know if I want to show all items on the Web site. What is it and do I really need? I have McAfee, I thought that covers this screening, and it seems on McAfee 'approved' websites. I need to get rid of it whenever I visit a Web site, and it is very annoying. Thank you

You might have turned accidentally on an accessibility feature. To disable the block of redirection, you can use the Panel Advanced Options page:

"3-bar" menu button (or tools) > Options > advanced

Under the mini general tab in the accessibility section, uncheck the box for "warn me when websites try to redirect or reload the page.

Hello, you have current more hd , which is a malicious add-on. Please, try the following steps:

    1. Reset firefox (this will keep your bookmarks and passwords)
    2. then go to firefox > addons > extensions and where there are still extensions listed there, disable them.
    3. Finally, run a full scan of your system with security tools like the free version of malwarebytes and adwcleaner to ensure that adware is not present in other parts of your system as well.

For me, this happened from disabling, but do not uninstall McAfee site Advisor. Recommend site completely uninstalled and the problem disappeared completely. I had turned off before site Advisor, but it seems after a update to McAfee, he was back and then turn it off again caused this problem.

Go to "uninstall a program" or "add/remove programs" in control panel. Find McAfee in your list (McAfee total protection for me). Click it and then click "Uninstall/Change" (right there in XP, up above in Vista or 7). I don't remember exactly what you see after that, but at one screen I was given the choice to uninstall the McAfee total protection and/or the Site Adviser. You can just check the Site Adviser and just uninstall the Site Adviser while retaining the rest of the McAfee protection.

No one program cannot be used to detect and remove any malware. Added that often easy

  • How can I get rid of a pop-up - found Sttray.Exe-entry point

When I start my computer, I get the following pop up: Sttray.Exe entry point not found. The procedure entry point locate string could not be located in the dynamic link library stlang.dll. Please how can I get rid of this pop up, and what it means? Thank you. PS my computer is a Dell Inspiron 9400, and I run Windows XP.

    Hi Lewisday,

I do not think it is a virus problem or infection - this is a notice of failed to start, not a type of infection of popup.  I think you have a problem with loading the Sigmatel Audio driver.  Go to Device Manager and check to see if it shows problems with the driver.  Go to control panel / sound and make sure you can configure everything you should be able to do it - if it is not charging I expect you have some type of audio issue.

Here is the info on sttray.exe: http://www.what-is-exe.com/filenames/sttray-exe.html.

I also have the chance to have a Dell 9400/E1705 laptop and this applies to the Sigmatel Audio driver.  You should check your Dell Service tag number, but will probably end up here: http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/19/DriverDetails/DriverFileFormats?DriverId=NN9X1&FileId=2940571307&productCode=inspiron-9400&urlProductCode=False.

It runs at startup for me.  It seems that you are having problems with the driver.  I recommend that you download and update the driver on the system and restart and who may well solve your problem.  You would therefore, by using Device Manager.

Without it, you can have problems with your sound (maybe not completely - but maybe in terms of getting the best quality).  I've never tried without it and I have mine set to update for Vista now.

If you do not want to see what happens if you don't just run this application at startup (which will remove the popup as well) and since it is more likely is not already running anyway and yet you don't mention sound problems (maybe you do not just use anything but computers audio base that maybe does not need - I'm not sure) , you can go to start / run and type msconfig.exe, and then enter.  Go to the faucet of startup and uncheck the box next to Sigmatel or sttray.exe, save the changes and reboot.  I bet that the notice has disappeared-, but did you notice changes to your audio files?  If this is not the case, then perhaps you can live without it if the above has not resolved things.

In any event it is not a virus, removing startup thing will remove the popup and update the driver may solve the problem and allow the feature to stay (if you notice or care).

    I hope this helps.

    Good luck!

    Kosh
