Inspiron 17R SE (7720) upgrade screen resolution?

Hello
I have a 'special edition of the Inspiron 17R"(serial number: DCC2DT1) and I used it for about 2 and a half years.
Not once in that time has stopped working, I'm very happy with it and I would update some components and I hope to continue to use it for a few years.

I am looking to change/update the screen 1600 x 900 on a Full HD 1920 x 1080 display.
My main question here is, if this is possible and will not be a problem, and if I could use first put the other components of the laptop?

I would also like to upgrade the HDD for an SSD and a day later the Intel i7 Intel i5 processor. Is this what I need to know before I Exchange/upgrade components?

Thanks for reading.

To upgrade the display panel, you must also replace the harness of the display - one that comes with the lower panel of the resolution will not work with the FHD display.

SSD upgrade will not be a problem

Updates are possible with this model (it is the last of Intel Mobile processors, which is sold in the form of half-bridge, removable) - you will need an Ivy Bridge CPU.  Also check your power adapter - 90 w does not have an i7.  You need a minimum of 130 W power adapter to run an i7 CPU.

  • Ubuntu linux driver installation for Nvidia 950 M on Dell Inspiron 17R SE 7720

    Hello

I bought a Dell Inspiron 17R SE 7720 Ubuntu version because I like Ubuntu linux more than Windows.

I can't find the linux drivers that will allow my Nvidia GT 950 M graphics so, basically, the card useless and no power management.
There is absolutely nothing for Ubuntu Linux on your drivers page.

I have updated to the latest BIOS A03.

The laptop's Ubuntu Logo sticker on it next to the Intel i7 so I thought it is totally compatible.

    Please advise,

    Thank you

Optimus system and at the present time, it is not properly supported under Linux, there is work in progress for him, but for a workaround, see Bumblebee project: wiki.ubuntu.com/Bumblebee

Description a little longer: you have two graphics - integrated (Intel) and discreet (Nvidia). Optimus systems are designed with the intention to use the GPU integrated tasks that requires no graphic heavy treatment (most of the day-to-day activities) and the use of the discrete GPU for applications requiring more powerful GPU. Integrated card is less eager for power and voltage GPU discreet when not in service allows cooler use.

Normally you use integrated card and there is no way to use the card nvidia directly if the BIOS does not switch to it. Help Optimus allows to use the Nvidia card for rendering and power down to save power when not in use. It has not been official for Optimus of Nvidia Linux support. Bumblebee is a community created project attempting to address the issue, but it is really only a workaround until the solution has been created. FIRST is such a solution, but at present it is still experimental and is not in any version of Ubuntu, more it is officially supported only in the open drivers source (new), Nvidia has not yet validated supporting in their binary driver.

I agree that Dell support for bids Linux pages are sorely lacking, in fact I was not able to locate a page describing their Linux pre-installs. Ubuntu certification pages are not really informative on Dell changes and upgrade policy.

  • nVidia Geforce GT 650 M NOT DETECTED on Inspiron 17R SE 7720 after update BIOS A11

    Hello world

A week ago I did some updates on my Inspiron 17R SE 7720 including Bios Update to the version of the A11. Unfortunately, after this update I realized that the nVidia Geforce GT 650 M graphics card had disappeared from my system.

I read other posts and people who have experienced this problem suggested the re-installation of the bios would solve the problem, but in my case, it didn't.

Also, I installed the new version BIOS A12 and A13 versions but non of these have solved this problem.

Also reinstalled windows do not either fix as suggested by others in other posts.

I also ran the diagnostics on the computer from the bios and card does not appear there either, like the nVidia Geforce GT 650 M graphics card has not been installed on the system.

Finally I run a version of Ubuntu on my Inspiron 17R SE 7720 and run a system check and or the card is detected, just the Intel HD Graphics 4000 is detected under windows or linux.

Please someone Dell help us solve this problem, because it certainly is a BIOS PROBLEM.

If you're among the unlucky ones like me this saw has disappeared from the map of nVidia Geforce GT 650 M graphics card in your system, please share your experience with me.

    Thanks for your replies.

  • 32 GB mSata on Inspiron 17R SE 7720

    Hello

Have a Inspiron 17R SE 7720 with 32 GB mSata. What was the purpose of that?

To use as cache I cannot see a way (no RAID drivers on the inside) and OS is too small.

What was the idea of primiry of this material - optimum usage?

A disk fails at some point -, or Windows will become corrupt.  The question is not about whether you will need media recovery, but when - and having on hand means that you can fix it immediately instead of waiting days for Dell to ship the media.

  • Inspiron 17R SE 7720 wake from its slumber when the lid is closed through the usb keyboard/mouse

So I have an Inspiron 17R SE 7720 which has all of the latest drivers with BIOS A11 (Win 7 Ultimate x 64)...  I have all the settings properly configured for sleep power (no hibernation), however no matter what I try, I can't get the laptop to wake up when the lid is closed through USB keyboard.

I use a combo of MK560 Wave from Logitech (unifying receiver) - keyboard and mouse have the wake-up option enabled in the settings of their material.  I also wake up from USB enabled in the BIOS.

What is interesting is that if I put the computer to sleep with the lid open, I can do/wake it from Logitech devices.  With the lid closed, I can only do sleep - the only way to wake up, he is to open the cover and press the power button.

Anyone know a solution to this?

    Cliffs Notes:

Cover open: CAN sleep/wake from USB keyboard/mouse

Cover closed: can sleep ONLY - don't wake up if I open the Start button / cover & press

It seems that a new A13 BIOS was released on 18 March, all it says in the section '' correction '' is to "maintain the release." Download it now and see if it fixed more on the question of the USB.

  • How can I uninstall windows 8 and install windows 7 on an Inspiron 17R SE 7720

I bought my Inspiron 17R SE with Windows 8 installed in December 2012. I tried my best to become familiar with Windows 8, but most of the time I do love. I tried to use the classic interface so it looked like Windows 7 but I still don't like it.  It seems to me that Windows 8 be not really suitable for the use of the laptop.

I want to uninstall Windows 8 and install my own copy of Windows 7 Pro, but I do not know if it will install on a laptop at the origin of installation for Windows 8.  I asked Technical Support on this issue, but I was told that Dell would not support this so they couldn't help me.

Can anyone here help me with detailed instructions on how to achieve what I want... I read that the needs of settings in the Bios to be changed before I start but do not know what to do.

    Thank you

  • 2 hard drives in Inspiron 17R SE 7720

Hey guys, I would like to add another (an a ssd) HARD disk to my Inspiron.
I did some reading on the support forums and managed to pick this up:
It IS possible to add another hard drive, however, I need the brackets and screws which must be purchased from Dell, if I didn't order my computer with 2 slots for HDDs in first (I think).
So, since things are clear enough to me, I have some questions:

#1-Comment can I check if my other slot these screws or whatever it is that necessary if I can install another hard drive it?
#2-si it is not, where can I buy them?
I searched the Dell store and all that I could find about SSD in Inspiron 7720 was a $ 600 (!) 256 GB one, which is much too expensive for my budget, especially since I was already 256 GB can I install it, I don't know if I have the necessary parts.

And the last - in one of the posts I read someone said the msata Crucial M4 is "certified" to work with Dell 7720, doesn't mean it is "certified" to work with the laptop only with the these media, or does it is cleaner and it can work without them?

Thank you very much for your time!
    ZIV.

OOPS! Looks like I got my search links.

Anyway, Yes, this looks like the part that I found so it should work.

  • Inspiron 17R SE 7720 - funny laptop computer (not dead) pixel LCD

Hey people, this laptop is less than 4 months old and yesterday began to show strange pixels on the screen (see screenshot of the website of Dell)

This pixelation presents itself not only on the desktop and in the games, but also in its display of the windows loading screen and also enforcement Dell Pre-boot system assessment. Know me this isn't a driver problem.  (However I've updated the Nvidia drivers).

These aren't dead pixels as they change or move according to what's displayed.

If I connect the laptop to an external display via HDMI, there is no pixelation, if I take a screen (screen printing) and look at this screen shot on another PC it is no pixellation there.

    Hi MrKG,

The problem is with the LCD of the computer and it needs to be replaced. Please private message me the serial number of the computer.

  • Inspiron 17R SE 7720 - Audio from headphones and speakers

When I plug my headphones, sound still comes from my speakers.

The popup asking what device I plugged is no - longer everytime I plug my speakers - but it does to the microphone socket.

It is difficult to say 100% for you that it is a hardware failure, because it is not a diagnostic test. If you Win10 you could go back to the operating system in which decision worked and see if it still works here.

If you have the original operating system came with the laptop, you can perform a recovery of the system (original return the laptop to the factory setting). This will be the fix or confirm that there is a hardware failure.

To the best of my knowledge your model of laptop doesn't have a replaceable audio port circuit. If I'm wrong on this subject you will need to replace the motherboard to replace the Jack unless you can perform work on the motherboard. You could qualify for something being folded.

A simple solution is to get a USB input audio cheap and use it for headset and your internal audio system when you want that the speakers to play.

  • Inspiron 17R SE (7720) - wireless card (help leveling)

    I currently have a "Intel® Centrino® Wireless - N 2230" adapter. What is the highest I can go?

My laptop is arguably one of these:

    Intel® Centrino® Advanced-N 6205

    Intel® Centrino® Ultimate-N 6300

    Hello

The two will work. You may need to install the Intel Pro wireless drivers (I did it with the Intel 5300 I bought for my Studio 17 ")

  • How do I clone the mSATA drive in my Inspiron 17R 7720?

I have two almost identical Inspiron 17R laptop 7720; one that I bought new from Dell 4 years and one that I bought used a couple of weeks. Both have identical hardware with the following exceptions: my original has a Core i7 processor and a 32 GB mSATA drive, while the new has a Core i5 processor and no mSATA drive. Hard drives, video, memory, etc. are all the same on both computers.

I bought a car identical mSATA for the new computer and try to clone the mSATA and the old computer's HARD drive, so I have two identical computers. I tried cloning of disks using Macrium Reflect. Cloned HARD drive successfully, but reflects only concludes a 8 GB partition not formatted on the old disk mSATA, not all 32GB. I cloned the new drive mSATA and tried in my old computer it correctly identified the drive but it was not valid, said RAID 0 volume and asked me to change my drive to non-RAID configuration.

Any thoughts on how I can clone the old mSATA disc correctly to the new?

You can't clone this player.  What you need to do is set up the Intel IRST again.

  • Subwoofer on Inspiron 17r 7720 IS not working is not in win10

I installed windows on my Dell Inspiron 17r SE 7720 10, but now the sound is very flat, volume is soft and the subwoofer stopped working. I looked on the Dell site, but there don't seem to be audio drivers available for this notebook for windows 10 reference drivers. Realtek also do not resolve the problem.

Is there a solution for this?

Hello. Has anyone tried installing the audio driver? There is no audio driver for the Inspiron 17R SE 7720 Win10, then you will need to use the audio driver IDT for Win8.1 and install it using compatibility mode.

    1. download and save the driver to your desktop.
    2. double-click the new icon on the desktop to extract (unzip) the files of the driver.
    3. the wizard of the extractor will create a new folder for the driver files. It will be located at the "c:\dell\drivers\xxxxxx". Note the exact location that the wizard creates.
    4. If the driver begins to install automatically, stop (cancel) installation.
    5. search for the driver files on the hard drive (the location you noted).
    6. find the file "setup.exe".
    7. right click on setup.exe to open the context menu.
    8. Select Properties.
    9. Select the Compatibility tab.
    10. check the box "run this program in compatibility mode for"... WIN8.1.

If installing the driver IDT does not work then I suggest you return the laptop in the operating system in which the audio worked properly, unless there is a compelling reason to have the Win10 operating system. Dell does not have to put any new audio drivers for the Inspiron 17R SE 7720 and Win10 audio management in the notebook models where the audio is not supported is hardly encouraging.

  • Inspiron 17R cannot install windows on the new drive

I have an Inspiron 17R SE 7720 with a dead 1 t HARD and the 32 GB SSD drive. The hard drive is a loss total and out of warranty, so I have to install Windows on a new hard drive.

I don't have a recovery disk so I install Windows 8.1 since an original DVD I ordered from Microsoft, some time ago.

My problem is that the laptop is not considered to be able to boot from the DVD. I get a message "No operation system Found."

I changed the startup list in the BIOS to first have the DVD. I tried f12 to choose the DVD to start but nothing works. I checked the disc in another computer and it's good.

I read something on the problems causing mSATA SSD and also on the Intel Rapid Storage is a problem.

Please help if you can, I need the laptop for school.

(Or fact) the DVD Player reads all other discs?
