install ESX/ESXi on faster disks increases performance of the guest OS?

for example, if you have installed ESX/ESXi on a faster local SSD or HARD disk, would be the overall performance of the ESXi and hosted OS be improved?

Or ESX works completely in memory even after the start, so it does not improve a lot?

If you have an iSCSI storage, I suggest you install ESX (i) on the local disk and attach (s) your storage iSCSI LUN as a VMFS data warehouses.

The issue I'm having is on the slopes significantly slower than #2 #1 VM. #2 works pretty decently. #1... well over this long last week I started it after being unused for awhile. I got the prompt to install VMTools so I did this. He took over 36 hours to install VMTools! ;-((. I want to update the operating system with updates from MS since several months, but I did not "months (or more!" to run through the update.

What are the options (performance etc.) would you suggest for #1? Apparently, the two #1 and #2 are the same, as far as I KNOW, in all other aspects of the guest operating system and settings. Is there a setting/performance video or paper about this game and how build/debugging etc. for optimal performance?

    TIA!

    Hello.

How did they build each of these virtual machines out there?

#1 is slow if #2 is also well off?

  • Broadcom 57711 + ESX/ESXi 4.1 + Jumbo frames

Having a few problems getting Broadcom 57711 NIC working on ESX/ESXi 4.1 with MTU 9000.

ESX/ESXi 4.0 U2 I have no problems to do and work MTU 9000 and I can push our strong enough EQL PS6010 SAN get 550 000 kbit/s with e/s meter runs inside 4 x VM.

I read the documentation and found that an MTU of 1500 is supported only for the NIC in ESX/ESXi 4.1 57711. It has somethig to do with the fact that these cards have hardware iSCSI unloading, there is additional iSCSI adapters that appear under the storage adapters heading 4.1 hosts.

I everything configured properly with 1:1 binding maps iSCSI network to ports VMK iSCSI with an MTU of 1500. When configured, this is the max that I can get out the SAN is 280 000 kbit/s. If I try the same process using the virtual machine a MTU of 9000 / host appears to stop responding.

While I understand that it is a limitation of 1500 when using iSCSI NIC hardware I am unable to get the iSCSI Software to work with a MTU of 9000 on ESX/ESXi 4.1. If I try the software iSCSI using a MTU of 9000 of the VM / host appears to stop responding.

Is also a limitation, or am I missing something.

Is there anyone else out there has the same problems as me?

  • HP Elite 8540W workstation: boost the performance of the laptop

    Hello..

I just bought the HP mobile workstation elite is a fast computer, but is limited in storage, it has only a 250 HARD drive, im, consider using a second HDD but since I don't want hangs in two new drives hard im planning to use the 250 as storage and buy a 500 hybrid HARD drive as drive main HARD (for the operating system) , I know that the hybrid is normally faster than the normal HARD drive, but since I whant to increase performance of the laptop that I would like to know what better configuration.

-Primary hybrids, normal as storage device.

-Normal as primary hybrid, as storage device.

-Two hybrids (one of the options above preferred since I just want to buy 1, but I'm open to buy two if the options above won´t help)

What I put, t want to do is buy a single HARD drive and for a neck bucase bottel of the difference between the drives.

I'll use the primariy for laptop design Solid works and games.

    Thanks in advance.

Always run the operating system of the fastest device. Disks hard hybrids are only slightly faster than the readers of meachanical despite claims from marketing to the contrary, but choices you give I'd go hybrid as primary and normal as a storage device. If the budget allows, download a player in real solid state without mechanical transmission components.

  • How can I get the Guest VM CPU, Ram, disk of VMware Tools?

    Hey guys,.

I have a question for the information of the guest OS,

I can use the SDK to get information such as the disk i/o of vCenter,

But I can't the CPU, Ram, disk use on the comments operating system?

I know vmware tools can help, but I don't know how to use the web Service to obtain, please do me a favor!

    Thank you

To get the disk usage information in the guest operating system, you get "guest.disk" property of the managed object VirtualMachine. This will give you the total capacity and free space on each disk information.

    http://www.VMware.com/support/developer/VC-SDK/visdk41pubs/ApiReference/Vim.VM.GuestInfo.DISKINFO.html

For the processor and memory, you can extract the properties "summary.quickStats.overallCpuUsage" and "summary.quickStats.guestMemoryUsage" of the managed object VirtualMachine.

    http://www.VMware.com/support/developer/VC-SDK/visdk41pubs/ApiReference/Vim.VM.summary.QuickStats.html

    I hope this helps!

Should I move the virtual machines from the first RAID at one of the others? Whipe then come out the scores and perform ESXi 4.1 installation?

Yes, it's a way to do this.

Unfortunately, the ESXi 4.1 installation wipe the disk to complete installation (or logical volume) as you have experienced. Assuming that "logical partitions VMFS" you mentioned are logical volumes actually created in the RAID configuration (presented as individual of the operating system disks), you can migrate the virtual machine that is currently stored on data store of the installation disk to a data store on one of the other logical disks and then install ESXi.

  • Unistalling ESXi & install ESX, what of my virtual machines?

    Hi all

I think unistalling vSphereHypervisor (ESXi 4.1) and installing vsphere (ESX 4.1) on my home server.

How to preserve my 8 VMs or backup them?

In addition, I will win by opting for ESX 4.1?

At this point, the difference between 4.1 ESX and ESXi 4.1 shrinks, for what you can do through administrative tasks. Get the unit of MAS, and you have more features. With the new ability to remote SSH on ESXi 4.1, you win a lot of what ESX 4.x used to bring to the table (by itself without the need to modify a file of confd ESXi 4)...

So unless you have tools/software that works only in ESX 4.1, I wouldn't wipe and install ESX 4.1... Firstly, you'll need to do the reverse, when you want to go to the next version. On the other hand, most third party tools have been updated to ESXi 4.1, are being updated, or will be before too long. At least those who actually want to keep their customers running VMware products.

I moved my VM to a SAN/NAS in my lab at home. It is very handy when I want to update the host, since I can have run them on a temporary host (a good system, using ESXi 4.1 installed on a USB key). Finally, I have at least two hosts in my lab running 24 x 7 so that I can more easily update things. In addition, it will allow me to run several virtual machines at the same time.

  • Can we install ESX 4.0 on ESXi 4.0?

I tried this on a DELL 2950 edge. I installed ESXi 4.0 first, and everything is OK. Then, I created a new virtual machine for installing ESX 4.0. The actual installation is smooth and successful. And this ESX 4.0 can get our DHCP server's IP address. But I can't ping. It's very interesting.

Have you tried that? And all the comments?

    Thank you

Try to activate the "Promiscuous" mode on the vSwitch where the ESX VM is placed on.
