Can we install ESX 4.0 on ESXi 4.0?

I tried this on a DELL 2950 edge. I installed ESXi 4.0 first, and everything is OK. Then, I created a new virtual machine for installing ESX 4.0.  The actual installation is smooth and successful.  And this ESX 4.0 can get our DHCP server's IP address.  But I can't ping.  It's very interesting.

Have you tried that?  And all the comments?

Thank you

Try to activate the "Promiscuous" mode on the vSwitch where the ESX VM is placed on.

I would like to install ESX 4.1 on M/B Asus P7P55 LX.

Just get an Intel Pro/1000 NIC that is listed on the VMware HCL and you will have no problem. You'll want to anyway, more than a network connection unique in the area in order to better be getting a pair of cards, or a dual port NIC (or quad port or a combination of the two)...

Using a single NETWORK card for everything which is generally a very bad idea.

  • Can not install XP SP3 on u4 ESXi 3.5 using LSI Logic

    I'm a knowledgeable enough techno.

    V3.5u4 ESXi

PCI 32-bit LSI Fusion-MPT Miniport driver

Windows XP Professional w/SP3 32-bit (direct from MSDN)

I'm looking for an explanation of why install Windows can't find hard drives using the LSI Logic adapter, when the drivers are loaded. I downloaded and created 2 images of diskettes for the correct drivers of LSI for XP 32 bit.

    version 1.20.18.00

    version 1.28.03.00

I can start a virtual charge machine, get the Windows installation to load, press F6 and load the driver without error. Once Windows starts, I get the error that Windows does not find the hard drives. What happens here? I mounted an ISO 4, 5-current OpenBSD and looked at the dmesg and of course he found the LSI adapter and hard drive very well.

To be honest, I don't remember where I got it, I got it for a while now.

  • Does anyone has installed ESX 3.5 on a USB Flash drive?

    Hello

I read some comments on how to get ESXi on a USB Flash drive, but I wonder if the same thing is possible with ESX 3.5?  The reason why I ask is that many of our ESX servers are wired directly into our DS/4700 IBM SAN for their data warehouses and we currently have local disks for the operating system itself.  Cost-mindedly, it would be wonderful if we can just install ESX operating system on a flash drive $15 (which would never be deleted you mind) as opposed to hard drives IBM overpriced or the boot-from-SAN.  The thought of having an identical set also to go with our identical to our disaster recovery site hardware is also very attractive. If someone could provide an answer on this, I would be very grateful.  Thank you!

    -John

If you ask if it is possible, yes it's possible.  Incorporated just means it is preinstalled on removable media (usually a flash drive, but it's the same thing).

With regard to the instructions, google it.  There are a LOT of messages.

    Mr. VMware

Go to the HCL list, select "Guest operating system" in the "what you are looking for:" drop-down box and enter "CentOS". After clicking on a link "CentOS 5.5" in the list of guest operating systems supported, you will find a page that contains all the supported versions of ESXi. Yours is "ESX 4.0 Update 1.

  • Unistalling ESXi & install ESX, what of my virtual machines?

    Hi all

I think unistalling vSphereHypervisor (ESXi 4.1) and installing vsphere (ESX 4.1) on my home server.

How to preserve my 8 VMs or backup them?

In addition, I will win by opting for ESX 4.1?

At this point, the difference between 4.1 ESX and ESXi 4.1 shrinks, for what you can do through administrative tasks. Get the unit of MAS, and you have more features. With the new ability to remote SSH on ESXi 4.1, you win a lot of what ESX 4.x used to bring to the table (by itself without the need to modify a file of confd ESXi 4)...

So unless you have tools/software that works only in ESX 4.1, I wouldn't wipe and install ESX 4.1... Firstly, you'll need to do the reverse, when you want to go to the next version. On the other hand, most third party tools have been updated to ESXi 4.1, are being updated, or will be before too long. At least those who actually want to keep their customers running VMware products.

I moved my VM to a SAN/NAS in my lab at home. It is very handy when I want to update the host, since I can have run them on a temporary host (a good system, using ESXi 4.1 installed on a USB key). Finally, I have at least two hosts in my lab running 24 x 7 so that I can more easily update things. In addition, it will allow me to run several virtual machines at the same time.

  • Can I install a vCenter license-free in my lab ESXi?

Can I install a vCenter license-free in my lab ESXi?

I have material available since I migrated to our company SAN ESXi and want to create a laboratory. I have a few questions:

    (1) can I install a vCenter license-free in my lab ESXi or am I can only use vSphere to connect to my ESXi 2 lab hosts?

    (2) create a cluster environment even if I use the free ESXi version to mimic my ESXi connected to a San company Production?

    Thank you.

    Hello

Yes, you can install vCenter license-free, since it will take place for the 60-day trial. I free ESXI host cannot be managed by vCenter, if it will not mimic your production http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=1018275 plant

  • -OS - how host can be installed in ESXi FREE?

    Hello

Please forgive me, it's maybe a stupid question, but I'm not familiar with VMware.

According to titled question this discussion is:

-OS - how host can be installed in ESXi FREE?

Whit another word, can be installed on the same ESXi FREE more than a BONE and make this race at the "same time"?

Or is the FREE edition that is designed to run only one Instance at a time?

I know that most host on the same physical server required Memomy large and more a physical processor.

    Question:

How many maximum CPU and physical RAM are supported on ESXi FREE? Correct is the FREE load up to 8 GB of RAM?

    TIA

    Antonio

If I am mistaken, there is no limitation on access to storage in the free edition, other than the restriction that applies to all editions.

A: all the bundles view include vSphere 4 for desktops that has the same functionality and features

vSphere 4 Enterprise Plus. View business start-up Kit (package of 10) includes vCenter Foundation, which

is limited to 3 guests. The Enterprise 100 pack, pack 100 first display view includes vCenter Server

  • install ESX/ESXi on faster disks increases performance of the guest OS?

for example, if you have installed ESX/ESXi on a faster local SSD or HARD disk, would be the overall performance of the ESXi and hosted OS be improved?

  • How to install the software on host ESXi 4?

I would like to analyze using Nagios my ESXi 4 server through the remote console shell, but there are a few hiccups with the Linux environment in that esxi is available:

    • There is no installed gcc
    • No like yum or apt - get package manager
    • Can't find that associated with this version of RHEL RPMs

So I am puzzled because I find inappropriate for this version of RHEL RPM, and when I want to compile I can't because there is no gcc. Clues? It's with Nagios using ERS, but if I have to use SNMP I will go this route.

Linux build: (Linux version 2.6.18 - 128.ESX ([email protected]) (gcc version 4.1.2) #1 Fri Oct 15 16:11:16 PDT 2009 [generation of Console of Service ESX 201756)

Welcome to the community - first ESXi is not Linux - the VMkernel is developed by VMware - it is not recommended to install the software on your ESXi host unless it is specifically design for ESXi - so unless Nagios has developed an agent for ESXi you won't be able to install it.

  • I can't install vmware view without a second server?

I am really new to server management. When I tried to install VMware View Server connection I got an error. He said

A controller of Active Directory (AD DC) domain to the "local" area could contacted could.

Ensure that the domain name is typed correctly. If the name is correct, click details to correct that information.

I also read somewhere that you can not install vmware view on the same Active Directory domain controller running server. Is it possible to install vmware view without going through a second server? If so, how?

You may first have to install ESX/ESXi in your server.

    • After successful installation, connect to the respective client server using vShphere.
    • Try to create 3 virtual machines and install Microsoft 2 k 8 operating systems.
    • The first virtual machine, you can use it as Server Active directory micorsoft.
    • Then you can you use it to vCenter server.
    • Third one you can use for connection server vmware view.
    • You may need to create two more additional, as virtual machines VMware view comments and the other as a client of the view. You can either install windows XP/windows 7 for the VMS in the thesis.

As already mentioned in messages, you can view VMware View Installation Guide for more details.
