Install new HDD - recover your drive work?

The hard drive in my L500-1DT seems to have a flaw.

I tested another a L500 HARD drive and it works fine.

It crashes when you try to start, use recovery to start (at the point it detects the HARD drive) and when you use the CD of recovery at the beginning of the process.

If I buy another hard drive, can I use the disk provided by toshiba again to install windows?

I think not I suspect the drive just points to a directory to install from the current hard drive, but some clarity would be great.

Thank you
Mike

Yes you can. There is no restriction to the HARD drive. Do it.

Yes; under the rules of OEM, you can replace the hard drive and reinstall the operating system on the same computer.

  • Satellite M70-151 - not possible to install new HDD

    Hello

I have a problem with my Satellite M70-151. bunch of old hard drive (100 GB Hitachi) reached the Windows XP screen then just ends with a blue screen a turn off laptop, immediately. I had to restore my data with an application file-rescue of another PC. It was not possible to start from old hard drive yet.

Then I bought a Western Digital SATA II 250 GB hard drive that put my Windows XP CD in DVD player installed and tried to start. The laptop turns off as soon as the laptop computer tried to access the HARD disk.
Thought, it was question of SATA II disk and tried a Samsung 160 GB Sata I - same result.

    BIOS recognizes the correct drives.

If I try to boot from old hard drive, it shows the issue I mentioned first, but as before it reaches the Windows XP Boot screen before moving on to the blue screen before turning off the laptop. So start goes further than the boot with new hard drives

The Windows XP CD I used is not the restore CD that came with the laptop, but a normal license.

The heat is not a problem, I cleaned the CPU fan there is enough space to breathe the cold air mobile, the temperature is ok.

    * My questions are: *.

Is there any special application running on laptops satellite, like special software of Toshiba, perhaps Backup, should I be aware of?
What I need to preformat the hard drive, Toshiba-Hardware will recognize the hard drive?

It would be great to get help on this issue, because I'm out of ideas. Thanks in advance!

    André

    Hello Andrew

This behavior is very strange. I have some old Satellite M70-159 with 100 GB HARD drive. I also tested how it will work with a 250 GB HARD drive and all is well.
On two drives, I have installed WXP using the Toshiba recovery image.

I answer your two questions No. to install Windows XP Home edition on this model of laptop you don't need some special Toshiba application or a piece of software.
HDD should be recognized correctly by the BIOS and the Windows XP Home edition installation procedure should work well.
What you can try is to set the BIOS to the default settings and try again.

The strange thing for me is that judgment. The blue screen tells me that there may be some serious hardware problem, the HARD drive controller might be. It's really not easy to say with certainty what can be the problem.

  • Portege 3490, to install new HDD with windows xp ready?

My hard drive failed recently on my portege 3490. I bought a 20 GB seagate replacement hard drive. I installed Windows XP pro by connecting the drive (via adapter) to my office and ran the installation cd.

I thought that I could then just mount the drive in the Portege and be good to go. However when I turn right away on the system asks me to insert the disc system.

I don't have a floppy drive and my single cd is a USB and I can't use it to start.

Someone at - it any ideas how I can get this working?

I plugged my other laptop (Toshiba no) with the same drive and it booed immediately. Thanks for your help

    Hello

Unfortunately I have no drivers list, but on the download from Toshiba site you will find about 18 different drivers for your device using BONE of W2000. Check it on http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com

As far as I know, it won't be easy to do something without floppy drive. I have no much experience with the Portege series but you can try to make two partitions on the second, you can copy the OS disk and start the installation of this partition. Even if you do this, you must start the unit with the startup disk.

  • Install new HDD on the desktop and make it bootable

Did you download and use the available Western Digital Acronis True Image WD edition to clone your OS to the new drive?

If that does not work, there is the possibility that there is no BIOS support for a hard drive of this size and type (SATA2). Your original hard drive was SATA.

1.5 TB SATA2 hard drives were not available in 2007. I read carefully offers to download on the Internet portal of support for your PC and don't see any BIOS update that OTF enhancement allow the use of larger hard drives.

  • How do I reinstall Windows (installed new HDD) 8

My laptop is dead needs a new drive hard of... My Windows 8 is an OS upgrade.  How can I get the 8 Windows installed if I do not have the older versions of the Windows ME/XP/Vista/7.  They were all existing operating system upgrades

    Hi Tinktoy,

If all the windows are an upgraded version, and if you don't have any DVD or product key, you will need to purchase a full version of Windows 8. You need not a previous version of Windows installed, and this would require the OEM System Builder version.

To install a Windows 8 upgrade version, you must already have Windows 7, Windows Vista, or Windows XP installed on your PC. If you have Windows 7 DVD and a product key, you can install Windows 7 on the new hard drive and later upgrade to Windows 8 later we can do phone activation.

  • Force Windows 7 to install new programs on specific drives/folders

Help? Don't know why or even if it is an option with Win7 Pro (64), but I would like to force all the new program installed to a drive location and or a specific folder. Is this possible? The system drive is limited in space (60g) and I have additional disks formatted and available on the system, but I can't seem to find the answer.

    Suggestions?

Horrible problems. There are tons of pointers in the registry that you miss. Maybe you should consider replacing the system with a bigger disk. You can clone on a new and most important player if you do not have to worry about this. MS - MVP - Elephant Boy computers - don't panic!

After the new facility and all new updates, I have 25 GB of free space. I would like to know if I can install new programs on my drive d: and no filling of drive c: for the ability

    Hello

Thanks for posting this question in the Microsoft Community Forums.

I see you want to know if you can install programs on a drive with no operating system.

I wish to inform you that this is possible with only specific programs, which give the user an option to choose where the program is installed.

When a program is installed, it runs in program files, which lies in the operating system drive and can not be moved elsewhere.

    Another reference:

Microsoft does not support changing the location of the program files

  • Recover your PC or install Windows 7.

original title: recover your PC or install Windows 7. Help, please!

OK, so here is the situation. I have a Compaq Presario CQ50 which had Windows Vista on it. A few days ago I started having problems with my computer laptop start and then it just stopped all together. Here are the questions:

    1. When you try to run the recovery I get the error "bootmgr missing" so I can not boot into command prompt or anything.

    2. when I use my Windows 7 install disc just try and install Windows 7, I get to the logo Windows and where it is said "Starting Windows", but it won't go anywhere after that.

Here's what I tried to do so far:

    1. new installation of Windows 7 (does not work)

2 recovery system (does not work)

    3. complete cleaning of the hard drive, then install Windows 7 (does not work)

I'm trying to avoid buying a new hard drive. I know there must be a way to solve this problem. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

  • Y580 installing new hard drive

    Salvation of the Lenovo forums

    I use the Ideapad Y580.

My hard drive is currently a failure (error messages Windows and failing Seagate diagnostic test tools) and I would like to replace the hard drive.

Can I put a blank disc (SSD or HD) and onekey recovery (next to the switch) button to restore factory default?

Or is it necessary for me to burn a recovery with the lenovo Solution Center disk in order to install windows on the hard drive/SSD?

I hesitate to burn them or work with my current computer because the hard drive is already defective, so I'm worried all corrupted files flowing into the new drive.

I hope to hear from you guys soon.

    Thank you

    Hi Onizukaeikichi,

Thanks for the reply, I apologize for the delay in replying.

According to your request, there is no difference between the fresh OS and a factory restore in the factory default drivers will be preinstalled where in the new OS, you need install drivers only your data will be added to this, please take backup of data.

I hope this helps! Publish us back for other queries.

Recently, I uninstalled Nero 7 Essentials on my computer.  Now my drive (D :) no longer works.  I tried to install Nero again, but the drive recognize more no disc when I put it.  What should I do to fix this?

On reboot, Windows should automatically detect the new hardware and install a driver.  Once this done, go to Device Manager and select update.  Or go to the manufacturer of your computer and get an update for the reader.
