Force Windows 7 to install new programs on specific drives/folders

Help? Don't know why or even if it is an option with Win7 Pro (64), but I would like to force all the new program installed to a drive location and or a specific folder. Is this possible? The system drive is limited in space (60g) and I have additional disks formatted and available on the system, but I can't seem to find the answer.

Suggestions?

Horrible problems. There are tons of pointers in the registry that you miss. Maybe you should consider replacing the system with a bigger disk. You can clone on a new and most important player if you do not have to worry about this. MS - MVP - Elephant Boy computers - don't panic!

To unregister and re-register Windows Installer:
Click Start and then click Run.
Type in the Open box: msiexec / unregister, and then click OK.
Click Start and then click Run.
Type in the Open box: msiexec/regserver, click OK.
Type the commands exactly, including the space between c and /.
This will not affect programs that use Windows Installer that are already installed.

  • How to prevent users from installing new programs in Windows 7

    Hello

I need to prevent users to install (and download) of new programs in Windows 7. I am responsible for three computers. They are not on one network (other than the internet, of course).

I read the article "How to prevent users from installing new programs in Windows 7" but I'm not sure what choice to make when I get to the choice of Windows Installer. I'm also not quite know how to cancel that so I can install the software when I have to. I've never done this if I want to be very careful.

    Can anyone help?

    Many thanks,

    KK

Are their accounts 'Administrator' or 'Standard' user level?

If they are directors of the machine, and then create a new Admin account (only you know the password) and then lower their Standard user accounts. If they attempt to install programs now it should be prompted to enter the Admin password that they won't.

    User accounts - https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2663817

Also see http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/299-user-account-control-uac-change-notification-settings.html for info UAC - and adjust the required level.

If their accounts are accounts administrator and for some reason must be a competent user, then will probably be able to undo everything you put up anyway.

I'm trying to install Windows 7 on a new 3 TB hard drive.  During the installation, I get a screen that says no hard drives have been found.  Windows installs the boot files on the X startup disk but nothing else.  The motherboard is an Intel DZ68BC and the Bios is set to boot from the UEFI.  All of the suggestions.

    Hello Keith,

Thanks for posting your question on the Microsoft community.

Thank you for details on the issue.

This problem can occur if the storage controller and chipset drivers are not updated or due to incorrect BIOS settings.

  • XP administrator cannot install new programs

When I try to install a program I get an error

"You must be logged in as an administrator to install this program."

I am the only user of XP Home and am registered as an administrator of the computer. I used system restore to go back to a time when this error does not appear, but after the restoration of the system, I got the same error message. I created a new account with administrative privileges with the same error. SafeMode worked OK. I used regedit to verify permissions, and they indicate that I have administrator privileges.

I ran SFC and tested the equipment without any problem. I finally realized I had saved the registry with ERDN every day so I went back at the same time (more than four weeks ago) where the problem has not produced and found that the problem started after I had installed and then uninstalled Comodo firewall but had never removed from my computer. I used Revo uninstaller uninstall, restarted the computer and the problem disappeared.

Thank you very much for your help!

  • Cannot install new programs as "system administrator has set policies to prevent Installation.

It comes to my computer at home, not on any network.  More and more, I get this error message.  There must be an easy fix.  Hope someone can show me the way... Thank you... Marv

    Hi MarvReinke

    1. you are the administrator of the computer?
2 do you have standard user permissions to install programs?

It seems that this administrator has blocked installation of programs on the computer. (UAC) user account controls have been set accordingly. If you are the computer administrator, you can try to connect as an administrator and see if you can install the programs correctly. You can also try to change UAC settings to solve the problem.
