  • Re install Windows 7 on Ubuntu 13

    Dear all,

I have a Pavilion laptop, G6, which was loaded with Windows 7. I recently tried to have Ubuntu 13 alongside my windows. I'm unable to start Windows 7, but Ubuntu works very well. The process of starting Windows can not find the DRIVE.

I tried recovery and complete facilities of Windows, however, the process stops at the stage of Pharmasset player for Windows as the installer is unable to find the HARD disk drive. Now, I decided to have only Windows 7 and I want to know the steps involved in the HARD drive to NTFS format and assign the letter reader etc..

    Your help is very appreciated.

    Thank you

  • Is it possible to install Windows 7 and Ubuntu on the same partition?

I'm a grad student and for my studies I need to ubuntu and Windows the long withit. Unfortunately in my laptop that only one partition is free. I would like to install Ubuntu inside Windows. Is this possible?

No, this isn't a plausible scenario, the two operating systems use different file systems, Windows 7 uses NTFS and Ubuntu uses ext4.  Even if they use a common file system, it would still not be recommended.  If you have enough free space on the disk, you can shrink the partition, and then create a new partition on free space for Ubuntu, note that it still may be a bit difficult to implement correctly, you must have a knowledge base of the operation between the MBR and the boot so that it works correctly on the same hard disk.

Have you considered installing Ubuntu in a virtual environment in Windows 7?  I think that this may be a better option.  Personally, the engine virtual without going I prefer VirtualBox , but some prefer VMware Player , which is also very popular.

    The upgrade to Windows XP?

Please read these instructions carefully and completely before you begin installing Windows 7: there are important steps that you must follow to upgrade your PC from Windows XP to Windows 7 in order to preserve your files and settings.

Before you begin, you'll need to backup all your data to an external storage device, and you will need all the installation discs for the programs that you want to keep. Please make sure that you have an external hard drive (see details below).

More detailed instructions are available at windows.microsoft.com/upgrade-windows-xp. Here are the basic steps.

    1. start Windows Upgrade Advisor (windows.microsoft.com/upgradeadvisor) to see if there are known issues that may affect the installation and the question of whether you should install the version of 32 or 64 bit Windows 7.

2 back up your files and settings on an external hard drive using Windows Easy Transfer (windows.microsoft.com/windows-easy-transfer). If you do not have an external hard drive, you will not be able to use Windows Easy Transfer. Alternatively, you can copy the files you want to keep on a USB stick, CD or DVD.

    3. you will need to manually reinstall your programs, such as Microsoft Office, after I installed Windows 7. Gather the installation for your programs and all partner/license product key discs. You may be able to download programs from the Internet. For example, Windows Live Messenger can be installed from the download.live.com/messenger.

    4. Insert the Windows 7 DVD in your PC. When asked "which type of installation you want. Click on "Custom (advanced)."

    5. when Windows 7 is installed, use Windows Easy Transfer to restore your files and settings.

If you are not comfortable Windows 7 installation, check with a local retail or the services of the PC company store to see if they offer upgrade services.

  • Satellite u300 (PSU30E) - how to install Windows XP?

My Vista broke down so I removed and installed ubuntu, which works very well. However, I would like to install a windows on this as well. Because I lost my disk of vista I tried with XP. It worked fine with virtualbox virtualization but when I tried to install it properly it worked as it is enjoyable. I got an error message during the installation process «Setup has not found any hard drive» I tried "slipstreaming" a storage on the installation as disk driver advised on this article:

    http://www.howtogeek.com/HOWTO/Windows/resolving-Setup-did-not-find-any-hard-disk-drives-during-Windows-XP-installation/

But laptop refuses to install from the newly formed disc and if I was still facing the same problem. Another option that is described in the article was to disable the native control of SATA BIOS. However, my laptop only has trusted Core BIOS Phoenix that do not allow to make these changes, and if I read between the lines of this topic:

    http://forums.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?MessageID=175764

.. There is no way to access this kind of parameters with my current BIOS. So my question is then. Is it really impossible to install windows XP on this computer without floppy drive where you could put a SATA driver or is it possible to work around this problem? Vista is such a disappointment to me that I might have to consider buying windows 7 if it does not seem likely that XP starts to work, and in this case, I am afraid that the power of this machine is not sufficient for this operating system.

All good advice about what to do?

I've tried several things: the direct USB win7 reformat, delete the partition, create partition... still no luck.

I had similar problems (not identical) with Ubuntu.

Can someone has suggestions for how I install linux on this book Z?

    Chad

I now 16.04 Ubuntu and CentOS 7 installed next to Windows 10.

For other linux users who want to install write on computers HP Z book G3, here's a recap of what I've done for activating facilities:

    1. Ubuntu LTS 16.04. Installed using iso DVD via DVD USB drive. To install, enter the BIOS (hit escape repeatedly just after switching on). Choose settings BIOS or similar, set install from file, then find the correct file for the USB key.

Ubuntu installation screen is normal and informs you how to access the Setup command line. Do it and add "nomodeset" to the command line, near "ro" and "calm". Proceed with the installation. Once installed, you need to change the set grub to include 'nomodeset' as a standard kernel option. Edit /etc/grub.d/10_linux and add "nomodeset" just before "ro". There is probably a better way.

2 centOS-7. I ended up creating a USB bootable using dd and a downloaded iso file. See

https://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/InstallFromUSBkey. During installation, you must enter the BIOS as in (1) above. Once you start from the file, you will be presented with a mutilated wishes installation screen. You can always change the Setup command line by using 'e '. Add "nomodeset" as before, then press F10.
