  Since you MENTION a DVD and other programs, the long and less, you must run Setup from the rest of the DVD. Stand-alone versions, including tests, will only accept the serial numbers on. By default, al lprograms will move to the same Adobe sup-fodler in your program Files folder. Nothing to fear on this part.

  Even if CS4 is suitable for you.  CS4 is no longer marketed, so unless you can find a retailer with an older version full unsold CS4 or some who want to give up using Photoshop and sell their license and transfer it by Adobe for you, your out of luck with CS4.  Download a trial of CS6 if you want to be able to buy Photoshop perpetual version or a trial of Photoshop CC 2014.  Make sure what you're looking for CS4 ther is many scams on the web...   Step 1: Disconnect all external devices (printers, scanner, USB (universal serial bus) readers, etc...) Except the keyboard and mouse and then start.

  If this solves the problem, then add back devices at a time until you discover the piece of hardware causing the issue.  Then get any drivers\software update for the device.

  You can't have three activations. It is simply not possible technically. If and when the time comes, just disable you / disconnect is on one of the old systems and install it on the new. If the system goes belly up, you contact support to reset your account. No need to make it more complicated than that and resist it.
