  • Installation of El Capitan on default of new SSD

    Hello

I'm trying to upgrade my MacBook Pro (15-inch, mid-2012), install a new SSD and run the operating system on it.

    Here's what I did:

I bought the 'OWC Mercury Extreme Pro 6 G' with a cube of data. I removed my optical drive; installed my old HD (running the operating system) in the data Doubler; and install the new SSD in the main Bay.

I downloaded El Capitan of the 'App Store' and then used «DiskMaker X 5 "to make a bootable usb key.»

Restarted my computer laptop and booted from USB and the installation of El Capitan. From there, I formatted the new SSD (Mac OS extended (journaled) with a single partition GUID).

After running down the clock of the installation (about 5 minutes), I get the message "an error occurred during the preparation of the installation. Try to rerun this application".

Without having to restart the mac, if I try to install the OS again, I'm not able to find the SSD.

If I restart the laptop and start in the OS on my old HD, I'll find the SSD here on my desk. (Sometimes it take a couple of reboots for my Mac see the SSD).

And then I try all this again, with the same results.

    I tried other things:

    Reset the PRAM.

Manual clock setting in the Terminal since the installation of punt. (Although it was not bad in the first place)

I also tried to set the clock to AST (Arabia standard time) as I live in Saudi Arabia.

Other than my SSD is defective, any ideas on what can I do to solve this problem?

    Hi Blackcells:

I guess that you entered in "System Preferences" > "Startup disk" and set to your original drive data Doubler.

Try to remove your new SSD and put it in an external case OWC external box or using a USB to SATA adapter SATA USB adapter and connect it to your MBP via USB.

Open disk utility > delete and format the SSD for Mac OS extended (journaled) and a GUID partition.

Then, use a third party application like Carbon Copy Cloner Carbon Copy Cloner (not free, but worth the price) or Super Duper to copy all data from the HARD drive internal as well as the recovery partition.

The clone will be an exact copy of your hard drive and it will be bootable.

Start the MBP with the OPTION key and select the new SSD.

If it starts the MBP, proceed to the physical interchange of disks.

  • Upgrade Windows 10 + installation clean + new SSD

    Hello

My situation is that I have windows 7 Home premium OEM installed and running on a hard drive of my laptop.

My windows 10 upgrade is ready to run. (Probably, it does not matter, but I have already improved

front and rear devulcanization to windows 7).

I intend to buy a new SSD and want to end up with a clean windows 10 install on the SSD and use

my current hard drive as secondary storage.

I've read other questions on this matter, but sometimes the answers that you have upgraded to windows 10

on the old hard drive first, and then perform a clean installation on the SSD, and sometimes I read that

you need to install windows 7 on SSD first and then upgrade to windows 10 from there.

So which of these two options should I choose?

    Thanks in advance, Gilles

    Hi Gilles,.

    Certainly, I understand your concern.

  • Problem with the installation of 64-bit on the new SSD

    Hello

I just bought a new SSD drive, on which I would like to install a new system 64-bit "clean". I've used up to this 32-bit system, but I finally realized that 64-bit is better for today's software.

There is a problem however, because the installation diskettes (and permits) I are:
    -Windows 7 32-bit OEM
    and
    -Upgrade Windows 8 32/64 - bit

Unfortunately, I found information that it is impossible to upgrade Windows 7 32-bit to 64-bit Windows 8 on the technical support Web site.

Is it possible for me to get the 64-bit Windows 7 installation files, even if I have a 32-bit version?
Can I directly install the updated 64-bit of Windows 8 disk system? How activation works in this case?

Is there another way, I could solve this problem? :(

    I would appreciate your help.

    Thank you!

    Hello Auunie,

  • Windos 8 clean installation of a new SSD

I have problems, do a clean install of Windows 8 for a new SSD.

I'm suing the 64-bit Windows 8 pro upgrade CD - in the retail box.

The BIOS is set to AHCI. I told the computer to boot from the CD/DVD drive. I put the SSD in an Icy Dock adapter.  I replaced the hard C with an SSD drive.  I unplugged the second HD and all USB devices except the keyboard and mouse. Everything seemed OK.  (I checked the connectors and did several times.) I inserted disk pro upgrade Windows 8 and power running.  He went through the usual initial installation.  He then asked "where do you want to install windows? It shows no disc.  He assane "we haven't found all the disks.  For a storage driver, click on load a driver. »

After clicking on load a driver, it says "to install the device driver for your drive, insert the installation media containing the driver files, and then click OK. Note the installation media can be a flash drive, CD, DVD, or USB. "There are browse and recan buttons, which do not help.

Clicking OK search a little while and then he said: 'no signed device drivers were found. Make sure that the installation media contains the correct drivers. »

Well, no disk not supplied with the SSD (a crucial M500 960GB).

I have triple checked the connections, and they seem OK.

I'm stuck at this point - what could be the problem?

    ======

Added: This computer (I use another right now) came with Win7, but I upgraded to Win8 with the upgrade of the box retail, then to 8.1 with the download from the shop Windows.  He then worked with Win 8 and 8.1.  If I put the HD in, it works as it did, but I need to do a clean install on the new SSD.

Well Yes may be the card it connects directly to the port

Well, I took the SSD to the Icy Dock adapter and taped in temporarily, and he now sees the SSD!  I checked the SSD into the adapter and it seemed safe.  He hung in place, etc.

    And now it's 'customize '.

Thanks a lot (and everyone else).

  • Installation Windows 8.1 on new SSD?

    Hello

My laptop came with Windows 7.  I bought the upgrade of Windows 8 and now Windows 8.1 is released I will install it.  My laptop is a bit slow and I get an SSD.
I have a question, can I download Windows 8.1 and burn it to a DVD and then start and install it on a whole new SSD? I'm not sure that I heard him being made available to the store so I will need to have windows at first?
    Thank you!

You could always use the upgrade wizard when Windows 8.1 becomes available and create a. ISO file that allows you to install it.

  • Inspiron 17R-N7010 new SSD installed, now I need Windows 7 operating system installation CD.

    Hi guys,.

So my HDD on my Inspiron 17R-N7010 completely stock * on me last week, so I just gritted my teeth and just bought I have completely new SDS and installed last night... now, however, I need to reinstall the operating system. Problem is that when I bought the laptop, Windows 7 is pre-installed, so I don't have to drive to it. How can I do to get an installation disc, and how much it will cost if I can get my laptop up and running again? It's an outdated OS and the laptop is almost 6 years, I can't imagine which costs a lot. There is also a store Microsoft directly by me, can I go ahead and buy the disc of Windows 7 OS you think?

In addition, the original HARD drive was 640GO and this new SSD is 500 GB, so the recovery disks that I made when I got the laptop are unnecessary since Dell Datasafe Recovery (or whatever we call it) keeps telling me the hard drive needs to at least 590GB of space (or something similar along this message). The smallest space on the SSD isn't going to be a problem with the laptop in general or during installation of operating system Windows 7 is?

You will need to call Dell - they usually sell a set of recovery media for about $25 in the United States, the United Kingdom and the Canada.

I have a similar problem to this topic. Windows was originally (and still is) installed on my HARD drive and I just installed my SSD recently. When I did a clean install of Windows 10 on my new SSD it has not installed the EFI partition.

Is there a way to create a new partition on the SSD EFI (of course I have to do another new facility) or do I have to physically unplug my HARD drive before you begin?

  • Mac Pro early 2008 OS 10.6.8 at 10.11 on a new SSD upgrade

    Hi all!

I want to spend my Mac Pro hard drive to an SSD with a new installation of El Capitan, but I also want to continue to use Adobe CS3 (I can't afford a new version... > _ <).  I read that some people have a lot of problems after upgrading their operating system, even when you use the legacy of Java 6 to CS3.

Someone at - it good tutorials step by step to install a new OS on a SSD?  I have the adapter for my Mac to use the SSD drive also.  I'm not * that * tech savvy, so I don't want to spoil anything!  :\

Would it not be possible to keep my current hard drive with Snow Leopard and run Parallels or Fusion for Adobe CS3 on my SSD?  I've never used Parallels or Fusion (preferences?), so where the Snow Leopard operating system to be need?  On a partition on the SSD or can it be on its own hard drive (the one I'm currently using)?

Also do not know when I improve my OS, how do I tell my Mac to start El Capitan and not Snow Leopard so I keep the older operating system on its own hard drive?  It is system-> startup disk preferences?  Is that how I can go back, if I need to?

    Here are my specs:

Mac Pro early 2008 (MacPro 3,1)

    Quad-Core Intel Xeon 2.8 Ghz

    16 GB RAM 800 MHz DDR2 FB-DIMM

HARD drive 500GBx2 (one is currently my Time Machine, I'll use it as a backup of my photos)

500GB SSD (no not in my Mac still installed)

4 TB HARD drive (will have Time Machine on half)

El Capitan would be really slow on my Mac Pro or should I go with the Mavericks or Yosemite?  I'm just trying to extend the life of my Mac as long as possible!

I'm really sorry for all the questions!  Thank you very much for any help!  ^____^

    ~ Christina ~.

-Unless you have already "purchased" Mavericks or Yosemite is is not available for download.

-I just download the installer of El Capitan from the Mac App Store and run it and order that EL Capitan to be installed on the new SSD. You can then by pressing the Option key at startup to choose which version of the OS you want to boot from. You can set either as the default startup in system preferences > startup disk.

-During installation, you use the configuration wizard to migrate SN drive stuff. YO can also do it later using Migration Assistant but who has created a new used with the migrated data.

-With 16 GB of RAM and an SSD El Capitan will be fine

  • Failed to install the new SSD on OSX support!

    Hello!

I'd be happy if anyone of you could help me out here!

I have questions, try to install a new own OSX on a new SSD on my Macbook Pro mid-2012.

I have done this before on an Evo 840 500 GB Samsung without problems.
This time, I use a Samsung Evo 850 1 TB, but when I try to install OSX it won't let me.

I use (command + R to start) recovery mode and as a first step in disk utility, I couldn't format the new SSD in Mac OS x journaled, it just stopped at 50%.
Then, I swapped the SSD for a normal (Non - SSD) hard drive, installed OS x on this drive without problem and formatted the SSD drive in disk utility on this new OSX on the HARD drive regularly after putting the SSD drive in an external enclosure.

After that, I swapped for the formatted SSD HARD drive, but I still cannot install OSX. In disk utility from recovery mode it is said "not mounted" under the mount in the info Point. I tried the strength to mount it in a Terminal too, but it will not be displayed as installable disk mounted when you run OSX installation.

    Help greatly appreciated!

The SSD will appear in disk utility when it is connected to the MBP via USB?  If so, format it in disk and Carbon Copy Cloner utility to copy the internal HARD drive to external SSD.

When you are finished, test the SSD by starting the MBP with the option key down key, and then click the SSD.  If she starts the MBP, then swap in the MBP.  If it does NOT then the MBP, internal SATA cable is suspect and should be replaced.

    Ciao.

  • How to do a clean install of El Capitan on new ssd?

I bought a new SSD to replace the SATA drive in my Macbook Pro for mid-2010. I am running Yosemite. What I want to do, is to do a clean install of El Capitan on the SSD. I also bought a pregnant and plan on the use of the old drive as an external backup.

I need some advice: after installing the ssd in the MBP and the old drive in the box, I intend to plug the old drive for the MBP, format the SSD drive and then use a reader flash which I did the Setup file of El Capitan to a clean of El Capitan for the SSD install and then use the Migration Wizard to migrate applications and files from the old drive.

Is there a better way? Maybe install the SSD in the enclosure first, connect to the MBP, then shaped and do cleaning installation of El Capitan?

    All advice is appreciated.

installing the SSD in the pregnant first, connect to the MBP, then shaped and do clean install of El Capitan?

It's better. Some of these Macs experience problems after surgery. The new installation using the outside doing will give you confidence that it works before surgery, and no problem introduced by surgery can be separated from issues of installation and update. It will install and run in an external, just may be a little slow.

  • Re: Portégé R700 - how to install Windows 7 on new SSD?

    Hello!

I want to change my HDD in Toshiba Portege R700 to SSD. How to install Windows 7 on this new SSD? I don't have any Windows installation disc.

Or that it will be possible to move the partition of the old HDD to new SSD (using Acronis, I could move the partition on the new HARD drive)?

I've heard of partition offset and this SSD block should be the same as FAT cluster (the same alignment).

All advice? (I know should I defragment my HARD drive before moving :))

    Hey Buddy,

    > I do not have any Windows installation disc.
Create the Toshiba recovery disc as mentioned in the manual of the user before you exchange the disc, then you have a Setup disk. The Toshiba recovery disc will restore parameters of the box with all the drivers and tools. It can be used on each disc and how many times you want.

After this change the drive and start the Toshiba recovery disc. Follow the instructions on the screen and everything will be installed.

    Check this box!

  • Toshiba Tecra S3 - new SSD stuck on JBOD, cannot install windows on it

I just got myself a Kingston V series 64 GB SSD drive, but I can't it is detected by windows installation programs.
After looking around, I found that the Tecra S3 drives must be "1RAID 0" and not JBOD to activate windows to
be installed on it. (unless you use the recovery CD, which I did not right now, even if I wanted to use it)

I also found the "collar" necessary to get the BIOS to change when you get to 'run the creation '.
    is 1,2,3,4, [Enter].

But here's the catch: + BIOS does not account for the string... +.
I type the string, 1234, [Enter], and it cancels my desired, change as if I said NO and set it to JBOD.
(if I don't type the string on the right, it comes out, but stays 1raid0 and "run the creation" is still there)
I tried on one of my other drives and it worked fine, but for some reason this drive seems not wanting me to.

I tried the USB drive (works fine) and the BIOS sees it for what it is, so that the drive works well (from my tests)

Would be really appreciated any ideas on what to do now, I'm out of ideas on what I did not properly
    Thank you!

    Hello

    > I just got myself a Kingston V series 64 GB SSD drive, but I can't it is detected by windows installers

Have you included the RAID driver in Windows before you tried to reinstall the OS?
On the European driver Toshiba page, you can find the RAID driver to be included when installing Windows installation.

    Regarding the change in BIOS RAID;
I m not very good, but it might be possible that you cannot change the reason the SSD RAID option.
If other drives are working properly and that the RAID may be changed using a common HARD disk the problem is related to the new SSD drive.

Maybe you need to update the firmware on the SSD drive to check it out.
