Installation of repair system-now I can't go online

I did a repair install of family system for xp due to problems with svchost.exe eating my cpu. Now the problem is Windows Update will not start and when I try with internet explore it loads my homepage (Google) and freezes. BTW, I can launch only IE7 in the start menu. Whenever I double click the icon on my desktop it just creates a shortcut. All thought would be more useful because it's my moms computer and I'm sure she'll ground me if I don't get it working properly again.

Your MOM may well agree.

First of all, cancel your system restore. It should never be done in the first place and undo it should solve your problems of launch and others.

Then, uninstall Norton, using Add / Remove programs.

So, don't forget to run their removal tool (because it is very likely, there will be leftovers that can interfere with the installation of other programs):

http://us.Norton.com/support/kb/web_view.jsp?wv_type=public_web&docURL=20080710133834EN&LN=en_US

Reboot and you should be golden.

Much better replacements include Microsoft Security Essentials and Avira AntiVir. And both are free.

  • A programme called trust Installer has my computer now how can I solve this

I download a program by the Trusted Installer and it seems that it is the owner of my computer with some files it says I need permission of the Trusted Installer to make changes to this file

    Hello

    Please, try the following:

    1
right click on the file or directory that gives you the permission issues.

2 right click and select 'Properties'.

3 once inside the properties, select the 'Security' tab.

    4
once inside the Security tab, select the "Advanced" option at the bottom.

5 once in the "Advanced Security Dialog" window, click on the tab "Owner" .

6 is where you can see the current owner (Trusted Installer).

7 if you want to take ownership of that file or directory, click 'Edit'. UAC will ask you for permission, say Yes. Then, highlight the user name in the window "Change owner" that you want to assign as the new owner for this file or directory. Click 'OK' to finish.

8 then, in the window "advanced security settings" , you see now that the owner has changed to that you specified. Click 'OK' to close this window and select "OK" once more to complete.

    9. follow the steps 1 to 4 to open the 'Properties' window for the file or directory once more.

10 once inside the 'Properties' window again once, click the "Edit" button and say yes to UAC.

11 to highlight the Administrators in the "group or user names" box. If the user ID or group that you want to manage permissions for said file or directory does not exist, click on 'Add' and type the user name that you want to have full control regarding the file or directory.

12 once inside the permissions for the directors (or the username you chose), select "Full Control" under the "Allow" column. Click 'OK' to finish.

    Kind regards

  • I lost power during the installation of a program, now I can't continue because the computer sees the remains of the previous installation, but I can't delete them

I think there is a tool fixit for this, but I can't seem to access

    Hi Bruce,.

You marked by mistake my answer as the answer (solution) to your question.  I have not marked to avoid confusion.

I'm sorry that the tool has not worked for you.  Unfortunately, it is the only such tool that Microsoft provides and supports right now.  I have some alternative suggestions:

    1. Run system restore
System restore allows you to choose a date and a time and restore the program/system at this point. He won't touch one of your personal files/documents/images.  Only, the process takes about 2 minutes and is completely reversible if you don't like the results.  This is by far one of the safest and easiest options in a case like this.

When you run the system restore and choose a time before the program was installed (which can be listed as a point of restoring specific itself, because the points are created just before to begin installing new programs), it will remove all registry entries or system files this program had done.  This option is all but guaranteed.

      or

    2. Manually remove all Traces
Delete all files in the created program and manually delete the registry entries.  This can sometimes be simple, but for more complex programs, it can be nearly impossible without a complex program in question and detailed knowledge.

I highly recommend you try #1.  As I said, you can always cancel it if you don't like the results.  When you use it, please be extremely careful to choose restore, not refresh or reset.  These two alternatives are not as 'safe', because they are destructive in nature and should be used only if you want to restore your computer to factory conditions.

Download and run the Norton removal tool above to ensure that no debris of Norton remains.

The computer you are using now if you have Internet connection problems with the other > download / save the removal tool > copy to Flash Drive > transfer / install and run it on another computer/laptop.

  • I updated firefox to 7.0. Now I can't get online using firefox. Help!

I tried to connect using firefox. I have a red "x" next to the web address with GB faded to the site next to her message. What should I do?

    Hi marcia312.

Looks like there may have been a problem with your installation. I recommend starting by uninstalling and then upgrade to the latest version by following these steps:

    • Get the latest version: http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/new/
    • Uninstall your current version of Firefox.
    • Do not remove the data of a personal nature when you uninstall the current version.
    • Delete the program folder Firefox before installing newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
    • It is important to remove the Firefox program folder to delete all the files and make sure that there is no problem with the files that were the remains after uninstallation.
    • Your bookmarks and other profile data stored in the Firefox profile folder and will not be affected by a relocation, but make sure that you do not select delete data of a personal nature if you uninstall Firefox.

  • Can't get online once installed Windows 7!

I can't get online on my desktop (HP Pavilion, under 2 years old) after the installation of Windows 7 Home Premium. Previously, I had Vista. The compatibility tool indicated that everything was OK. There is nothing wrong with my modem or ISP (my laptop is online and does very well). I was online with Vista, now I can't get online at all. Troubleshooting have yielded no results. I can't via radio or via a direct cable connection to the cable modem. Any thoughts? It's really frustrating and I can't google to the top of all the answers. Thank you.

Go to Device Manager and see if the wired and wireless network adapters are installed and working.  If they are not, you may need to download drivers for them on another computer.

    Hello

    Run the sfc/scannow command.

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/929833

Use the (SFC.exe) System File Checker tool to determine which file is causing the problem and then replace the file. To do this, follow these steps:

    1. Open an elevated command prompt. To do this, click Start, click principally madeprograms,Accessories, right-clickguest, and then clickrun as administrator. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password, or clickallow.
    2. Type the following command and press ENTER:
      sfc/scannow

The sfc/scannow command analyzes all protected system files and replaces incorrect versions with appropriate Microsoft versions

If SFC detects the main problems it can't fix you may need to borrow a Microsoft dvd vista not an acer, HP etc. recovery disk and do a repair installation

It shows as FXSCOVER. EXE and AUTOCHK. EXE are corrupted and cannot be repaired.

    How can I fix it?

    Hello

First of all, I suggest to remove the Chkdsk.exe or the program Autochk.exe of scheduled tasks:

Click on start > all programs > Accessories > system tools > scheduled tasks.

Click Chkdsk or Autochk in the list of scheduled tasks > under folder tasks > click Delete this item.

Also, make sure that the registry has the entrance on the right as mentioned below:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager. In the right pane the BootExecute value autocheck autochk *

Then, schedule an autocheck and see if the problem persists.

How to back up and restore the registry?

    Kind regards
    Clement Kumar.

  • Problem installation Vista updated and now the Vista operating system unbootable - help

Here it is the description of what has past.  Ive been through everything I can do and am now stuck with a code of 0 X 4001100200001005.

I worked with Microsoft Vista forum group of answers, but I'm not back upward and running if Im going back to HP for assistance.  I hope that we can achieve together.  This all started when started Vista updates failing.  I got the 1 3 install stuck on the 2nd about three weeks ago.

Here is a list of what I've done so far
I have an old HP DV9410us for a year which will not restart after installing updates.  It comes to configuring updates step 1 from 3 to about 98% and then stops.

It then says unable to start windows and start the repair program windows for about 5-10 minutes.  He said that you want to use the system restore.  I tell Yah Why Not.  Then, it will stop and start the cycle.

The error in the Startup Repair States the following

After a bunch of tests successful

    Root cause found:

    c:\ntoskrnl.exe is corrupted.

    Repari Action: Repair of files
Result: failed.  Error code = 0xa
    Duration 6521ms

    Action repair system restore
    Result: Completed successfully

He then returns to the cycle all over again.

I turned the clock to October with F10 at startup but that did nothing.

I checked the hard drive for the short and complete and checked everything.

I dug my recovery disks I did ago about 10 months after I bought and used to return to the top of my hardrive.  I was all ready for a MAC at this point.

I went back to the HP Recovery program and tried to restore an earlier version of a well-known operating system.  The Manager of recovery disk wont work so I used the Recovery Manager disk.  There is no old configs to this true its in step 2.

I'm now trying to perform a factory image recovery.
Reload the operating system.  It started and got to 13% after 20 minutes and gave me the following error code.

During this process, I have an error that had the code 0 x 4001100200001005.

It is the reformatting of repeat of the Windows Partition.

Is this a Vista update problem?  Have you seen this before?

I'm doing a factory restore and will let you know if this operation fails.  I just wanted to get this thread started.

I really appreciate this forum and any help you could give me.

If you had an error in "configuration update 1 3-3 3 ' which would be a problem with windows update.

to fix this, you'll need a factory image recovery if you can not access other modes for windows. But youy mentioned that you had a 0xx000x... (similar to code) error... try checking the hard drive and memory modules health... threr could be a problem with these devices, you can access it through the bios settings (turning on laptop, the moment you see hp invent screen, press f10) go to the diagnostics section, run the memory test and that hard drive test

very probably with the error you have, you might have a hard drive problem.

most of my clients (I am a specialist of the laptop of beak) with that problem and stuck on a boot loop or may not switch from windows, 95% of them had a hard drive failure.
