  So I take an edx online course: Introduction to computer CS50x. I am following the installation of VMware Fusion instructions found at the following link: https://manual.cs50.net/appliance/2014/fusion/

  I followed the instructions in step #4: I double click the icon of VMware Fusion. I clicked on 'Open' when prompted. I typed my administrative password. I accepted the license agreement. I inserted the license key. I am now in the window "select the installation method. But herein is the problem. I do not know what installation method to choose, and there are no instructions on it. My options are: (1) import of disk or image; (2) import existing PC; (3) install OS X from the recovery partition; (4) import a virtual machine existing; (5) installation of Boot Camp. and (6) create a custom virtual machine.  There are no instructions or advice to navigate through these options.

  Assistance would be greatly appreciated.

  From what you have posted, it seems to me that the merger has been successfully installed. The dialog box "Select installation method" you see is Fusion trying to be helpful and you guide in the creation of your first virtual machine.

  At this stage of VMware Fusion and eject the mounted disk installation image (so that you do not open the installation program when you must open the copy installed on your disk). Continue to step 5 to download your virtual appliance of the format .ova.

  -Are there any good document, which includes procedure step by step how install & restore the UCS 240 M3 LTS server. Example-start with installing RAID followed with ESXi, vSphere/vCentre...

  -Are there any SRND, best practice for Cisco UCS 240 M3 SFF-RAID, NIC, vCentre...

  -We have 14 hard drives per server. What is the recommended RAID configuration. RAID5? All good document on the RAID configuration?

  -Do we need two vCenter to manage all the virtual machines on 4 servers in two centres of data taking into account the redundancy if a vCenter fails or WAN failure between data centers.

  -J' I need to install and implement the UCS server remotely. If I configure the IP of administration through the BIOS and connect the management port to the network, configure the remote server?

  -I see four ports of 1 GB NETWORK card on the server of the UCS and assume must be configured as trunk/dot1q on the network switch. Is there something to do on UCS to be configured as a trunk port? The network switch ports must be configured as 1000full trunk/dot1q & speed as best practice?

  -Yes it is possible using MMIC Web gui.

  -Everything depends on the resident Vms, but I think that the trunk is the way to go.

  As Salamu Asalam are Atef,

  During the installation of weblogic server (WLS), home of Middleware is created.  My dough to this mistake, it's that you does not have the correct version of weblogic FIRST before installing the forms and reports. Then, u MUST specify THE SAME directory Middleware where wls is created after a successful installation.

  Erick,

  I think you are talking about two different things.  UCS Manager is for blades of series B and C-Series, which are built/managed by UCSM.  Stand-alone C-series is no manager of UCS.  Each C-Series is managed independently by the MMIC (Cisco integrated management controller).

  What type of raid controller you have installed on this server.  If you have a controller LSI, I recommend that you try to configure the RAID using the WebBiosUility.  Here is a link to a document that you can walk through the steps of configuring this controller via this utility.

  I guess the VMware Fusion Technology Preview 2014 is for what will VMware Fusion 7 and I understand it's the first preview, however, is not the way to start off the coast and as the saying goes, leaves a bad taste!

• New Windows 8.1 installation fails on Fusion 6.0.2

  I installed Windows 8 successfully in the past (on a Macbook Pro retina), but I get the following error with 8.1: "a media computer driver needs is missing. I've attached a screenshot of the error: after this pop-up restarts the virtual machine, and it fails again with the same error.

  

  I use this on a Mac Pro (model 2010, 2 x quad-core Xeon). I tried the easy installation and a custom: same problem with both. I tried with the following images (I have an MSDN subscription, I downloaded the images on the MSDN website):

  • en_windows_8_1_enterprise_x64_dvd_2971902.ISO
  • en_windows_8_1_pro_n_vl_x64_dvd_2971969.ISO
  • en_windows_8_1_pro_vl_x64_dvd_2971948.ISO

  I have the same exact error with three of them.

  Anyone had this problem and managed to cross it?

  Hi tallyand welcome to the VMware communities!

  This message almost always means that the iso file is corrupted or truncated, although it seems unusual that this occurs on all three files unless there is something goes wrong systemic with all your downloads.  Have you checked file sizes and the SHA1 sums against those published on MSDN?  (Click on the Details link in the MSDN Downloads Web site list.)  You store the files .iso downloaded to a local hard disk or a network share?

  This is not supported for the content... Please check the certificate of the MOS

• Cisco UCS Direct Attached ISCSI Storage access upstream to storage array

  I'm doing my first installation of UCS with a chassis 5108) and (4) B200 M3 blade and (2) 6248 fabric interconnects. The plan is to connect our EMC VNX directly on the fabric of interconnections as the chassis will be the only system for access to the SAN, after migration from our current system. The fabric interconnects will be transmitted to (2) 4500-X switches configured in a vs.

  In my research of best practices and general deployment guidelines I noticed the need to create (2) separate iscsi VLANS for fabric and a fabric in B. I'm guessing that this requirement is the lack of STP as YEW is configured in EHM, but I was not able to find an exact answer. Any idea would be appreciated.

  My main question and my concern is that if I create a second VLAN ISCSI on our X 4500 and then create both of these VIRTUAL on FI networks A & B I'll be able to connect the SAN to the UCS as well as our former VMware cluster (we are migrating our system HP Compute and storage UCS 5.5 environment) in order to facilitate the vMotions of storage?

  If I understand your question: can a host attached to 4500 (connected to the UCS FI), access LUNS on the VNX, which is directly connected to the UCS fabric interconnect through lanes (EHM FI) material? YES! I would accept this for a migration, but not forever, because it means that traffic on the fabric of interconnection.

  I recently bought a retina-iMac 21.5 "(fin 2015 obvs), without realizing it when I did so that it came with a slow hard disk 5400 RPM that will larn me - do your research the next time Cameron!" In any case, I'm trying to sell it, but my search for a buyer continues, I also try to establish - without much success until now - if a hard drive upgrade and/or installation of a fusion player any is possible. I am aware that the RAM in this model is not extensible.

• VLAN overlap when upgrading to ucs 2.0 x

  We'll go to ucs 2.0 x 1.4.3(L).

  As we use the vlan 1 as vlan for ethernet and vlan native VSAN 1 FCoe (which is the default value for 1.4.3L).

  Althuogh we don't use VSAN1 at all, our current Setup uses too running vlan for glutaraldehyde VSAN and Ethernet to guide the UCS firmware upgrade and create a critical alert.

  SO I try to change a VSAN 1 FCoE vlan to vlan 4048 before update firmware the right pick up vlan 4048 is that we want to keep consistency for new UCS construction and implementation at level (4048 is default FCoE vlan for the new installation of UCS) 2.0

  When I connect to the UCS, I found VLANs 4048 looks like has been used by UCS internally (doc cisco suggest the same thing)

  4048 VLAN4048 active Po1 (Po1 is channel uplink ports)

  For the VSAN 1 FCoe VLan change, I have 2 questions:

  1st question is: can I change a VSAN 1 FCoE vlan to 4048 on 1.4.3(L)? Anyone who has the experience to do this?

  If the answer to Q1 is YES, what is the impact on the system UCS (ESX host, bare metal server and virtual machine) when I change VSAN 1 FCoE to vlan 4048?

  If you use no traffic set to 4048, you can skip about 4048 VLAN being listed for the channel for the ethernet port interface.

• UCS B200M3, quirk of connectivity to the Switch 3750 G

  Morning all,

  Hoping someone can help, I have a strange situation that occurs with my new installation of UCS.

  The configuration is:

  UCS chassis connected to a pair of interconnections of tissue 6248UP, using 2208XP/o Modules.

  I connect this to a stack of distribution 3750, I configured 2 etherchannels on the pile of 3750 and in the UCS Manager, these are configured to pass all the VLANS relevant, I have three blades (B200M3), installed in the chassis with VMWare ESXI 5 installed.

  Once they have all been implemented, they can communicate both feel to and from the network without problem, both vmware networks and local network.

  2 a night or more (without modification) blades (slots 2 and 3) stop communicating on the network. I can get them working again by making a few changes to network settings and everything will be ok until the next day.

  I am at a loss as to what may be causing this.

  That should solve your problem.  UCS will not pass unknown unicast, so if a MAC of UCS blade/VM address aging of your 3750, the outside world will be not able to reach it.  Under production operation normal/servers are normally talkative enough to avoid depleting and aging timers you only will see probably this at this time during the installation when there is little or no send/receive VMs.  Another option is to increase the timers of aging on the 3750.
