  I just install VMWare Server 2 on a Dell 1950 with Windows 2008 Enterprise Server.  He must have done something to the network settings because I can not remote on the server more.  Anyone know what happened?  I have Microsoft Virtual Server software installed on the same server.  Which would cause a conflict?

  I had MS Virtual Server installed VMware Server 2, but it was on a Windows 2003 host.

  Server installation adds two virtual networks.  (VMnet1 and VMnet8.)  Try disabling the and see if you can remote into.  Otherwise, if you uninstall the server, are you able to distance in the host again?  (These are the solutions, just in troubleshooting).

  I just installed VMware server 2 on my Windows XP machine and it seems to have disabled the multi user mode.  When I rebooted, the home screen is no longer present and I can't turn it back on.  Is this known behavior or something I can turn off?  It is even supported under XP?

  The product is not technically supported under XP or Vista is a server product but a lot of people seem it work very well.

• Installation of VMware server redundent

  We run a server VMware (VMware ESX Server version 3.5.0 Update 2).  I have about 8 virtual machines running on the server.  We backup each virtual machine in the virtual machine, not outside of it.  I want to buy an additional VMware Server which will provide redundancy.  The second server VMware will also store some VMS, but there will be enough space on the two servers if you die, I can restore to another.  Someone please lead me in the right direction?  I.E. - is there a component of VMware that I need to follow both servers support between them?  Outside the redundant material, purchase another license complete for VMWare ESX Server?

  Need you depends on the level of redundancy, you need.  Here are some examples... If you have X ESX hosts you will need X licenses regardless of the method of redundancy.

  Using VMware HA failover mode, this requires a shared either NFS over TCP (NAS), iSCSI, or SAN storage. Some of the features of type available non - NAS NAS are HP LeftHand Networks VSA and Xtravirt XVS. The latter two run from your ESX and VMS host and maintain redundancy between the nodes.

  Redundancy via SAN/NAS replication is also available and VMware SRM fits in do SAN/NAS to SAN/NAS replication.

  Redundancy through replication using elements such as Veeam Backup and Vizioncore vReplicator, which are tools of software replication to replicate virtual machines from one node to another.

  Redundancy via the backup and restore. This method VMs from one host backups and restores to another host. It is very similar to the replication but heavier.

  How redundancy you want depends a bit much you are willing to spend, but if you have 1 node and you want to replicate to another node, you need at least 2 licenses of VMware ESX to get there.

• Error prevents the Installation of VMware Server 2

  I recently recorded and downloaded VMware Server 2. I'm upgrading from a previous version. Uninstalling the old version works fine, however; Once the installation process of the new version takes place-error.

  Error is:

  Error 1718. C:\WINDOWS\Installer\29ac22.msi file was rejected by digital signature policy.

  I want to install in the same VM Excel2007 and Access2003. For this, I have two sets of construction with thinapp 4.6.

  The first time I installed a package everything works fine, but with the second package appears this message:

  "The same or a more recent version of Access2003 is already installed."

  I tried to change the MSIUpgradeCode and MSIProductCode in the file package.ini project Access2003 but when I try to build it pops up this message:

  'Specified is not a valid UUID for MSIUpgradeCode.

  Anyone know what I'm doing wrong.

  In fact the productcode or upgradecode must be equal between the two (excel and access are different products). And change the guid in the hand should not be a problem, so it is unique on this system.

  There are three GUIDS in a msi:

  Package code - to identify the package if even a few msi changes should therefore package code

  Product code - to identify the product

  Upgrade Code - to identify a set of products (during the upgrade, you can use several codes upgrade to upgrade)

  The error you get seems to be with package code in the upgrade version min table is not defined (or exceeds then the current version).

  In addition, your Installer registry keys may be dirty, check the entries in HKCU and HKLM. You could have some leftovers with the same product Code, or try to use a dirty/profile machine.

  I installed a different version of the JDev 11.1.2.4.0 according to my new work requirements and I am unable to perform my .jspx page... I have already installed 11.1.1.6.0 and works... Here's the error that I get... someone can help me with this...

  "The Server Instance cannot be started because the Weblogic domain integrated has not successfully built".

  I hope that you have not installed the 11.1.2.4.0 in the same middleware_home you isstalled the 11.1.1.6.0. In this case, you must reinstall both.

  If you have installed the 11.1.2.4.0 in middleware (empty) different House, you must check the log file, what exact error has occurred during installation. The location of the log are in the log window.

  In any case, you must remove the system11.1.2.x.x.x/DefaultDomain before trying again.

• Windows 7 workstation loses the connection with the Server 2008 "

  Server running Microsoft SBS 2008 Standard.  Second location is the use of Remote Desktop.  These workstations are very good.  Only the workstation in the same place loses the connection periodically.  Workstation can reconnect, but never know when it will drop.  The user has to go to the remote location to know that the work will not be interrupted.

  This particular configuration has worked very well for a few months.  Long story short about 2 weeks after main tech (which has implemented) is deceased in August 2010, there was a major issue.  No one is really sure of what it is, but everything is back up and running just now lovely annoying drop except for this connection.

  I'm scheduled to go on Tuesday.  This is a seasonal business and people we're patient but kind of necessity to deal with this finally.  I am pretty well convinced that this is not the Peachtree program causing the problem.  However, the error indicates that Peachtree is not installed on the server, and yet it is, obviously.  That is why we believe that the connection has been interrupted.

  All this makes sense?  Someone knows the effects of any automatic updates of end of August 2010, which may have caused a situation like this?  I know that currently they don't dare to update Java or something does not work well.  Thought, that you may know of something that happened at that time that could cause this.

• Installation of VMware Server 1 on Windows 7 as host

  I use Windows 7 as main OS for some time now and can't get VMware to work, I tried version 2 but no luck either. Version 1 Server Console will appear even, it needs a heart of CPU 100% usage and nothing happens after that, I tried to wait 20 minutes. Admin rights and compatibility mode did not turn, anyway. Y at - it advice or a workaround?

  No, using as any other application.

  A tip for you that I take the discovery time is start Server Console always "as Administrator".

  You can't change some settings, include wise other network settings.

  I use a Linux VM to software development, my own Linux server in my book.

  I looked at a bunch of documentation confusing but couldn't find a clear overview of what VMware Server 2 does in fact.

  I hope that I can take the virtual machines that I've created with VMware Fusion and download them on VMware Server 2 on a server somewhere and run it from there.

  Is this possible?   Is there any clear, simple documentation that indicates how to proceed?

  If you run the virtual machine in fusion directly in vmware server, these are the steps to follow:

  (1) find out where are the fusion virtual machine files.

  (2) stop & remove merge (do not remove fisically hd!) virtual machine.

  (3) copy files of the virtual machine of fusion to the vmware server host (with the .vmx file and the hard should be enough) in the directory you designate as data store for vm vmware server files in the installation of vmware server.

  (4) use the "adding a virtual machine to inventory" to navigate to the file .vmx of the virtual machine that you copied before

  (5) the machine running and try. (if a question arises, you say that you copied the VM).

  Maybe you should do some additional steps as reconfigure it the virtual machine under vmware virtual network install, but there are minor and easy changes.

  certainly the Windows 7 operating system is not supported by vmware server 2. So many questions can happens.

  I recommend you use other vmware products that support Windows 7 as for example 7.01 Workstation or player 3.01. You can also take a look at the (free) esxi 4.0 U1.

  In addition, vmware will drop any kind of support for vmware server 2 in 06/2011.

• VMWare Server Auto walk stop VM

  The documentation states that you must activate this option when installing VMServer 2. I installed 3 times now looking for AN option in addition to the locations on the disk and can't find anything. In the management console, there are options for start/stop with the host, however, virtual machines any "off" to start. The documentation says "Note to allow the virtual machine to be started and stopped on a Windows host, you must also select Allow virtual machines to start and stop automatically with the system during the installation of VMware Server.»

  Can someone tell me the buttons to activate this option?

  If you select a computer and then click "Move up", it should become "activated" when it hits the sections 'Specified order' or 'Any order' and you can then change the settings to set the start or stop (as long as you have administrator privileges). Please see the attached screenshots.

  A witch hunt to start during the startup of the host if you have virtual machines on a data store that is not available at startup, for example sometimes if it's on an external or drive network rather than local.

• SLED 11 host - VMware Server 1 upgrade to VMware Server 2, former VM work now "(invalid).

  The other day, I upgraded my work, the latest installation of VMware Server 1 to the latest VMware Server 2 for linux 64. Everything went perfectly with the installation, except for the little matter that now my Windows Vista, Windows XP SP 3 and my VM Windows 2000 are listed as "not valid" in the inventory. They have never worked.

  What is the best way to start troubleshooting this?

  If you have installed from the rpm package you should just be able to uninstall via an RPM EI and then will delete the virtual machines and their associated files.

• Problem installing VMWare Server - code 1603

  I thought that I would see how far I could get with the help of VMWare to set up a temporary database server on my machine. However, I couldn't even in what concerns installation, it seems!

  My machine is a server on a corporate network and WIndows XP (SP3). My user account has the rights of a local administrator on the computer, and I installed a number of other things on this machine without problems of access rights.  However, when I try and install VMWare on my machine I get a box of selectionneret indicating:

  Setup cannot continue. The installer of Microsoft run-time DLL could not complete the installation

  Further investigation on the newspapers donnГ the log file attached, the outline that attracted my interest being:

  So I tried to restart the machine, check if VMWare products were still installed (they weren't), delete all the entries in VMWare on the registry and I tried to reinstall. But nothing helps, the same problem happened again.

  I even following the link in the article KB http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/555175 and tried method 1 (cancellation of registration and re-registration of the Installer) but there is nothing either.

  So I'm a bit of a loss what to try next door get VMWare Server 2 installed on my machine. I already had to VMWare Server 1 is installed on this machine (again, using the same login user) but removed during the case to install VMWare Server 2. Currently, I don't have any VMWare products installed on the machine.

• need help to set the access rights of a vmware server 2.0.1 on vmware image

  Hello!

  I have a vmware (running ubuntu server 9.04) image that was created with a vmware server installation varsion 1.0.9. now I decided to upgrade to the host, which means that the host totally changed: new equipment, new OS, new vmware-server-version: 2.0.1

  My problem atm is, I may not know, what would be the appropriate access rights (chown/chmod) for this vmware image. during the installation of vmware server 2.0.1 I was asked to specify some 'administrative user' where I took the an im working with Linux itself (lets call it "user").

  so, when I copied the old vmware image in the data store (/ var/lib/vmware/VirtualMachines for me), chown-ed the folder including all files init by A, setting chmod to something like 600, the console vmware (web surface) told me that there were several problems with the image and couln can't be started etc. etc. etc...

  I played with several rights to the image and the only thing that seemed to help was setting the folder and all files included in 'root' with the command chmod chown '777'... not what I would call 'secured '.

  so: how to set the access rights for the virtual machines? I want that they have only minimal rights as possible and especially nothing like root: 777...

  My static VM files, as in those who are not dynamically created when the virtual machine starts, are the property of root, root of group with permissions of 711. Root is the user that I have chosen as the admin user when you run vmware - config.pl. My users do not have direct access to this server, so I'm not too worried about the permissions. You can give different rights for different users to different virtual machines, creating roles and their allocation to users/groups.
