Installing Oracle 12 c in Linux Mint 17.1
Hello world
I try to install Oracle 12 c on Linux mint 17.1. I get a lot of questions of RPM during installation. Someone has Setup on this operating system or any documentation associated with it?
Thanks in advance.
If you do not go with OEL (as suggests) installs Oracle is cleaner on a derivation of RHEL, CentOS / something on the same stream. Installation on other distributions can get difficult, if need be reason see about hosting on a VM in the Mint, unless there is a specific you operational need it. Mint is mainly for the user interface, or is there another reason you use?

How to install VMware tools correctly on Linux Mint 15 cinnamon on Fusion 5.0.3
Hello
First of all, I understand that Linux Mint is not supported (side: anyone know if this will change?), so I appreciate any help. My main problem is with the folders shared
Dead ends
So far, I've run into some dead ends:
1. I watched install VMware Tools in Linux Mint 15 cinnamon (Olivia) - YouTube - but this facility has been the "'VMware Workstation 9.0.2 ' and the author admits"I don't know if it works or not with the fusion." "
2 I downloaded a a copy of the latest vmwaretools for linux of deposit of CDS - /www/stage/session-32/cds/vmw-desktop/fusion/5.0.3/1040386/packages only to find it was exactly the same as the package vmwaretools this merger gives me at least VMwareTools - 9.2.2 - 893383
Some success
I had some mild success by running the following commands before installing - it seems to stop error messages:
apt-get update
sudo apt-get install build-essential
sudo apt-get install linux-headers-`uname -r`
sudo apt-get install xinetd
But my MAJOR PROBLEM IS...
When I try to activate the shared folders while the guest is running, I see a message:
Or if I turn on shared folders when the guest does NOT work, I don't get an error message - but I don't see either record hgfs under/MNT
Other research
I read can't see the shared folders in Linux guest (Windows host) and and even tried to run the script vmtoolspatch of WoodyZ of this post - with the following result:
user@GNS3WB62 /tmp/vmware-tools-distrib $ ./vmtoolspatch
patching file driver.c
Reversed (or previously applied) patch detected! Assume -R? [n] n
Apply anyway? [n] y

patching file inode.c
Reversed (or previously applied) patch detected! Assume -R? [n] n
Apply anyway? [n] y
Hunk #1 succeeded at 62 with fuzz 2 (offset 12 lines).
To install VMware Tools type the following
commands, pressing Enter after each:
cd /tmp/vmware-tools-distrib
sudo ./vmware-install.pl
But after the installation of the VMware shared folders tools has not always worked.
My plea
Someone has successfully shared folder with Linux Mint 15 cinnamon (32 bit - no codecs) invited 5.0.3 fusion and if so could you share the steps that you used?
My system Details
I tried this using VMware Fusion 5.0.3 in both a
MacMini running Lion Server (OS X 10.7.5) 2 GHz Intel Core i7 16 GB of DDR3 memory and a
MacBook Pro running 2.8 GHz Intel Core Duo 8 GB DDR3 (OS X 10.8.4) Mountain Lion
I have only this tried using Linux Mint 15 cinnamon (32 bit - no codecs)
Well, starting with the basic installation created by using the linuxmint-15-cinnamon-dvd-nocodecs-32bit.iso image under VMware Fusion 5.0.3 I did the following.
sudo apt - get install linux-headers-$(uname-r)
sudo ln-s/usr/src/linux-headers-$ (uname-r)/include/generated/uapi/linux/version.h /usr/src/linux-headers-$(uname-r)/include/linux/version.h
Excerpt from vmtoolspatch.zip in my Home Directory.
Excerpt from the VMware Tools VMwareTools - 9.2.2 - 893683.tar.gz to: / tmp
Open a Terminal, by default, the base directory, then:
wkz@linuxmint15x86nc ~ $. / vmtoolspatch
patch the file driver.c
patching file inode.c
To install VMware Tools, type the following command
commands, pressing ENTER after each:
CD/tmp/vmware-tools-distrib
sudo./VMware-install.pl
wkz@linuxmint15x86nc ~ $ cd/tmp/vmware-tools-distrib
wkz@linuxmint15x86nc/tmp/vmware-tools-distrib $ sudo./vmware-install.pl
Once VMware Tools have been installed, I rebooted and had access to the VMware shared folders.
So it works with the basic install however I do not run apt - get update then apt - get upgrade or use one kernel other then the default. So once the changes then the scrip may not work and I don't have time to test each variable and am just trying to give some automated solution just to make it easier to patch based on what is said in the Notes section in the script. Really don't want to maintain it and others can build on this and or do something similar.
Make sure that the stamp of Date/time on the file vmtoolspatch is Jul 15 00:04:00 2013 as who has worked with this test.

Installing Oracle on Unix and Linux
Hi guys
I think that this is my first post here.
I do research on virtualization in distributed systems. What I do is to have:
Win 7 > home
6 OS on VirtualBox and VMWare which will be UNIX, Ubuntu Linux, OpenSUSE Linux and WinXP
An Oracle database on the host of Win7 and another database Oracle on one of the Linux operating system.
Win7 host will have a full Oracle installation while the virtual OS will have Oracle customers.
I can't find where to download that can be used for Unix and Linux installation of Oracle files.
I found this http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/enterprise-edition/downloads/index.html
but after downloading the files from Unix and Linux client, I can't use them to install.
And why is Oracle give these for free? Are these assessment development or student licensed?
Thank you.ztech123 wrote:
Thanks for the responses guys.Ed, among virtual Linux operating systems will have a database.
I read the documentation of the Linux client and it is a long process. I was hoping there would be something more simple as simply run an exe file as in Windows. I have download a .deb for 10g package sometimes back and who acted as an exe on Windows. Don't no what website I downloaded only from and if they have the 11g now.
Well, let's do the long process!
This is the canonical trial. And its work :)

Installing Oracle 11g R2 on Oracle Linux 6.4
Hi all
I want to install Oracle 11 g on Linux platform.
I installed Oracle Linux 6.4 on my pc using the virtual machine VM. The host OS is Windows 8.
When I try to install Oracle 11 g (using the rpm file) it gives the error: the package is not compatible with this system. Valid architectures are ['i686', 'i586', 'i486', 'i386', 'noarch'].
When I checked the sound system architecture: i686.
Please suggest.
Thank you
Maeva.
PL post a link to the binaries guest OS that you have downloaded, and also a link to the binary file of GR 11, 2 you have downloaded. Note that only 11.2.0.3 pl and 11.2.0.4 are certified on Linux 6.x - Oracle & reg; Database
These versions are only available on My Oracle Support for customers with a contract of paid with Oracle support. If you have downloaded the 11.2.0.1 freely available version, then you will need to use Linux 5.x

Please advice.
Thank you
Ashwani N.Details of the message of pl of the exact versions of "Linux" and "10g". Check that there are no error messages in the logs of installation?
The error message seems to be explicit - the instance could not be started due to a missing init.ora file. Have you checked that the file and the directory exist (for ' / u01/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/db_1/dbs/inittestdb.ora'), and that the permissions are appropriate?

topic: Home Search does not work in Linux Mint 15
I recently installed a new copy of Linux Mint 15 (Cinnemon). It comes pre-packaged with Firefox, but after setting the homepage back to the default (subject: House), I noticed that the search bar on this page did not work. By this I mean that the form has not provided or by pressing Enter or clicking on the ' search ' button.
I deleted all the Add-ons, removed and reinstalled Firefox several times, tried the Reset, and deleted, then recreated function profiles manually reset the options of configuration by default and any other thing I could think of. Nothing did.
Some users of a similar question mentioned that helped chromeappsstore.sqlite deleted, but this file is never created for me. In addition, localStorage ["search-engine"] is not defined according to the console, but Google is defined as the defaultenginename.
Any ideas on what else to try?
See you again all search engines in manage search engines?
You can check if you have the XML files including Google's default search engine in the browser/searchplugins folder in the Firefox program folder.
If this isn't the case, then you need to reinstall Firefox.

Problem to start Oracle 10 G Enterprise Linux
Hi guys! Please I need help.
Recentlly I installed Oracle 10 g on Linux Enterprise 5.4, the finished good, instalation I loged in isqlplusselect a few example of table, but then when I reboot to start computer oracle can't, I changed/var/opt/oracle/oratab the opsion 'Y' in oracle sid: oracle home.
When I manually start isqlplus and try to connect, I get this error "ERROR ORA 12541: TNS: no listner, I tried to start id form/oracle/bin, but I gess, it's not working."
Can someone help me with this, I mean how can I start to oracle, and what I need to chang for automatic start
Thank youOK, here's what you need to do to 10.2.0.1 (I guess that's what you mean by 10 gr 2):
1. open the dbstart script located in /home/oracle/product/10.2.0/db_1/bin
2. search for all occurrences of the string "/ ade/vikrkuma_new/oracle" and replace it with "$ORACLE_HOME". This is a known bug fix.
3. edit/etc/oratab and set option to Y for the database that you want to start automatically.
4. create a file /etc/init.d/dbora as root with the following content (defining the correct values for ORA_HOME and ORA_OWNER):
#!/bin/sh # chkconfig: 345 99 10 # description: Oracle auto start-stop script. # # Set ORA_HOME to be equivalent to the $ORACLE_HOME # from which you wish to execute dbstart and dbshut; # # Set ORA_OWNER to the user id of the owner of the # Oracle database in ORA_HOME. ORA_HOME=+path_to_your_oracle_installation+ ORA_OWNER=+your_database_sid+ if [ ! -f $ORA_HOME/bin/dbstart ] then echo "Oracle startup: cannot start" exit fi case "$1" in 'start') # Start the Oracle databases: # The following command assumes that the oracle login # will not prompt the user for any values su - $ORA_OWNER -c $ORA_HOME/bin/dbstart ;; 'stop') # Stop the Oracle databases: # The following command assumes that the oracle login # will not prompt the user for any values su - $ORA_OWNER -c $ORA_HOME/bin/dbshut ;; esac
5 set permissions for the new file (replace "dba" with defined during the installation of Oracle dba OS group):
# chgrp s/n /etc/init.d/dbora
# chmod 750 /etc/init.d/dbora6. run:
# chkconfig--level 345 released on
Restart and test if the DB starts correctly.
I hope this helps.
And by the way, I'm not Russian, Bulgarian. But you were close enough ;)

How to install check speller of the Serbian language in Linux Mint
Hello, I use Thunderbird 31.6.0 on my Linux Mint 17. I tried to follow the instructions that are on this web site to install dictionaries new Auditors of spelling, but it does not work. It is said that it is not available for my platform. However on my Windows computer it says that this version is not supported. In the comments of this page in someone explained workaround. You need to download the add-on, rename the .zip extension, unzip it and copy the files unpacked in C:/Program Files/Mozilla Thunderbird/dictionaries. I did and it worked!
Is it possible to do a similar thing with Thunderbird for Linux Mint?
I wanted to do the same trick but I didn't know where is the Linux dictionaries folder.
I did some research on Google and understand. So here's how to do it:2. right click > save link as
3. you will get a file as, rename the file and be sure to make it .zip
4. unzip the
5. in this new folder as you open dictionaries folder and copy all the files you have there
6 open your file manager and go to/usr/lib/firefox/dictionaries
7 stick y files you just cope, you do need to root premison to do so then right click in the window > open as root and then paste itThat's it, you'll have dictionaries for Firefox and Thunderbird.
