Integration of vSphere and vCenter logging Question

Hello

A few questions!

  1. VSphere integration with vCenter Server provides all the extra features on just by pulling the newspaper from vCenter through a syslog collector?
  2. Do you see any problem with the help of nxlog or Agent Insight of the newspaper to pull the following logs listed below, even if they are written not enough constantly? (Such as file permissions or use errors)
  3. There be any question, removing the vcenter/host integration in newspaper Insight and use a separate method of sending newspapers to the Insight Journal?
  4. How the Agent Insight of the newspaper would handle files with dynamic names? I would say just journal catalina.*.log?
    1. VMware KB: Location of the vCenter server log files
      1. vpxd.log

      2. vpxd - profiler .log

      3. vpxd - alert.log

      4. CIM - diag. and vws.log

      5. ls.log

      6. vimtool.log

      7. stats.log

      8. SMS.log

      9. EAM.log

      10. Catalina. < date > .log and localhost. < date > .log

      11. jointool.log

      12. Manager. < date > .log

      13. Home-Manager. < date > .log

        Thanks for any help!

        -Patrick

1 vSphere vCenter Server integration is only to shoot events, tasks and alarms of the vCenter Server database and ingesting as if they were log messages

2. everything should be good - use the agent Log Insight

3. currently no - notice the currently

4. Yes, the agent Log Insight supports filename wildcards (* and?) -See collecting events to a log file

Hello and welcome to the forums.

Information on p.14 means that Windows 2000 SP4 is not compatible with (in other words, you can not install) the Client vSphere, vCenter Server and VMware vCenter Update Manager.

Specific versions of Windows 2000 Server can be verified to support in the Compatibility Guides.  As long as you plan to run the Client vSphere, vCenter Server or VMware vCenter Update Manager on Windows 2000 virtual machines, you'll probably be fine.  It depends on which version of Windows 2000, you have, but just check the compatibility guide to be sure.

  • languages in vSphere and vCenter

    Hello people,

I installed the vCenter and vSphere Client so I had to find out there is no prompt for languages. I am of the Germany, and when I finished to install vShpere on German Windows 2003 Server OS everything was in German (terrible). How these products recognize install in German? Local version of the OS, locale (those which exactly)?

However, now I've read in the description for und vSphere ESX 4.0 there is a command line option to change this:

    vpxClient -locale en_US

First of all, how to run this command, because I have no experience with CLI?

Secondly, it sets the language settings for each client that will connect in the future and vCenter itself?

Thirdly, this fix, the language setting in the Client vSphere for each text, because I also saw phenomena, that most of the text is in English, but the description of the task and vSphere lLogonscreen is in German.

    Hello.

First of all, how to run this command, because I have no experience with CLI?

In Windows, you can start-> run the following command:

    vpxClient.exe - local-en - U .S.

VpxClient.exe running in Start menu-> Run would be the equivalent of the double click on the shortcut on the desktop or the Start Menu.  You can also create a shortcut with these included switches, or changing the text already there.

Secondly, it sets the language settings for each client that will connect in the future and vCenter itself?

Each customer must launch the application with the above switches.

Thirdly, this fix, the language setting in the Client vSphere for each text, because I also saw phenomena, that most of the text is in English, but the description of the task and vSphere lLogonscreen is in German.

It probably won't fix everything.  Plugins and other items may present as expected.

    Good luck!

  • vSphere and vCenter license price is based on the YEAR?

    Hello

Even if I already know as the product of vSphere and so forth and I am familiar with other virtualization technologies (I will avoid to mention here), I would like to ask about the license costs.

Currently, we use various stand-alone vSphere servers (sometimes evaluation license and a free license for 5.5), but I would like to have vMotion Metro and subnet rather than in private solutions like 'Veeam' quick migration, etc.

I went to see the costs... which are generally extremely high, but then I realize that the cost is basic 1 year or 3 years, which means that all VMWare license costs are billed ANNUALLY?

I mean, if I have 3 hosts ESXi and a cVenter with cost € 4000 will be € 4000 per year? I think it's crazy.

    Can anyone confirm?

    Concerning

    Hey,.

When you buy the license first, you pay X amount, which includes the license to base 1 or 3 years Support and subscription (SnS).

After this time, you pouvez renew your SnS for amount Y. For vSphere, one year basic Support is about 10% of the initial report and if I remember correctly.

But you don't have to renew the SnS, your software will continue to work.

SnS assets allows you to call VMware and leader in applications for support and very important: you can upgrade your license to the new major version keys when it comes out.

If for example you can improve your keys of vSphere vSphere 5 6 keys subsequently.

  • Failed to connect to client host vsphere and Vcenter also esxi.

    Hi all

I am trying to connect to the ESXi 5 of vsphere client host. I get the error message:

vSphere client cannot connect to < ip > an unknown connection error has occurred. (The request has failed because the remote server has taken too long to respond. (L'opération a expirer)).

and of VCENTR I am trying to add this host. I get the error. Of"request timed out".

I can connect to the shell of ESXi and restart the vpxa services and spend. I can ping to esi IP host. but just cannot connect to it.

earlier, he the host showed as disconnected in Vcenter. I tried to plug it failed. so I took it off I think can re add back. It did not work.

I can just connect to client as esx host.

    kindly advice.

    Thank you

    Hello

I am able to connect now.

I noticed as I said previously, unable to connect to the localhost error when running esxcli. Unable to connect using the vsphere client. Unable to connect using VCenter.

So I started to dig that's wrong with the OS esxi. and began running a few commands information esxcfg etc file system use of space, inode inconsistency, a few other commands such vdh, df to check the file system.  . and but has not changed anything. network configuration is correct.

in these I run services.sh reboot, restart vpxa, pass reboot, restart host, check the logs, vmkernel, vpxa newspapers spend., check the date and time of the host.  I couldnot Firewall check since esxcli did not work. I haven't checked listed above step on the SSO.

If you type esx and double tab, you will see many orders. I started testing on these orders.  so esxcli was a single command I tried later. It worked all of a sudden.

Once esxcli has started working, I checked vsphere client to connect to esx host that it worked. then I was able to connect in Vcenter also.

    Thank you for your support

  • New installation Vsphere and vcenter

This may seem pretty basic but I have not met this before and Vsphere threw me for a loop with the license change.

I have a new installation, I train.  First question is ISCSI available with the license evaluation Mode?  It seems not so much me.

If not then the second issue is the lack of customer is a new domain active directory.   Can I install vcenter not part of a domain, active directory and make all licenses from there?

In my view, that the eval is fully functional. You must enable initiator iSCSI under storage adapters.

vCenter didn't need to be a member of the domain, and also in vsphere there is no license server as with 3.5

  • vSphere and vCenter

    Hello world

I'm new on this and am frustrated at this point because most of the time, the documentation is not exhaustive. After a week that I managed to install my drive of vSphere ESX, create a vm Server 2008 and install vCenter then install and configure Orchestrator. Had a little trouble with SQL "surprise surprise" then comes into conflict with the server web and IIS. Now that things are settled nothing seems obvious or apparent.

ESX was installed directly on the server with any Microsoft OS, as I learned its more effective this way. I can't find anything on how to make backups and, especially, the converter. It is installed but is not found. Click right on the host and no Assistant import, according to the inventory tab/host anything. So again I have ESX 4.1 installed directly on my server with any MS OS, I connect via vSphere client and a virtual machine called vCenter. On this vm Orchestrator is installed and SQLEXPRESS. I saw all the tutorial there, video making repeat and I installed and configured but don't see not what Im supposed to see HELP!

Thank you for reading my rant and hiope someone can shed some light on my situation

Looks like you need to install the converter on your vCenter server.  Just insert or attach the vCenter vCenter VM media you created.  Launch the installation and you should see an option like this:

Once it is installed, you should be able to see it in the plugins section as follows:

Right-click on it and select activate.

If you have found this helpful at all prices please points using the correct or useful!  Thank you!

  • difference of vSphere and vCenter.

If vSphere for managing virtual servers on a server esxi, vCenter is for management of more than 1 Server esxi? Make a vCenter data center management tool. If this is true, is there something for multiple vCenters management (data centers)? If my terminology is incorrect too please correct. Thank you.

You have a little mixed names.  vSphere is the name of product and marketing.  The main components of vSphere are ESX(I) 4, vCenter4 and vSphere4 Client.

The customer would use to unique your host ESX (i) independent management, while vCenter is a central point of management for 1 or more ESX (i) host.

  • vSphere Essentials 5 and vCenter Essentials - cannot add host - vMotion

I would like to know how to add a host to vCenter Essentials for vSphere essentials.

We bought vSphere Essentials and Essentials vCenter to improve our existing for Vsphere 4.1 Essentials environment.  Everything went well with the update on the host computer.  vSphere and vCenter allocated through the vSphere client license keys.  We installed vCenter and web client on a 2008 Server VM on the esxi host. The host has a number of existing virtual machines.  When attempting to add a host after have created the data center must be of VMotion.

Must the esxi host be empty when adding to vCenter essential?

    Thank you.

It sounds like you administering hosts in the mode of assessment so far and I tried some of the Enterprise Plus features! The Essentials Kit includes not vMotion (only Essentials more done) then you should remove the port vMotion group - if there is one - in the virtual network configuration to make the edition of Essentials-compatible host.

  • Using VMotion with 2 ESX and VCenter

    Hi all

I just installed with ESX 2 VSphere and & VCenter. I can't use VMotion to migrate a virtual machine running one ESX towards each other.

    My setup is as follows:

    the iSCSI Software initiator.

data store even shared by 2 facilitators.

same conf network on the 2 hosts, none vlan used (set to 0):

    • vSwitch0 for the Service console, connected to the network of the company (vmnik0)

    • vSwitch1 for virtual machine network (connected to the company network vmnic1) and VMkernel (for vmotion, connected to the production network: san, vmnic2).

Error displayed (at 10%): a general error occurred: the VMotion failed because the ESX host failed to connect to the VMotion network, please check your physical network configuration and settings network VMotion.

vmnic2 on ESX1 is configured with 255.255.0.0 192.168.130.X mask and connected to eth0 on iSCSI SAN

vmnic2 on ESX2 is configured with 255.255.0.0 192.168.131.X mask and connected to eth1 on iSCSI SAN

Two VLAN different connection to the iSCSI SAN. You should have the same subnet, but a different IP addresses (if any) connecting to the San from each host (depends on the SAN)... For example 192.168.130.25 for ESX1 and 192.168.130.30 for ESX2. Unless your SAN network covers actually two subnets on your local network, you create a question where you don't need to. I would also use separate NETWORK card for vMotion traffic and another for iSCSI. Separate them VM traffic too (makes everything cleaner and less chance of collisions and too load performance causing one issues for each other. This is why it is a good idea to have at least four, if not six, physical NIC (or ports) within an ESX/ESXi server.

  • Open connections of hosts and vCenter Server Appliance

We have number of ESXi hosts configured in our environment with vCenter 5.1, far ssh is open to all in order to access all hosts via SSH. Although authenticating the users available but, even then, the issue raises so bound / restrict administrators IPs or subnet of the network for security reasons. Will be the same for vCenter Server Appliance.

Also can we restriction of IP level for the Vmware Client users, good that now everyone can make the connection between vSphere and vCenter cleint. Please advice

    Hi friend

Please see below the resources needed to achieve the same on ESXi
