  Definitely go for the i7 - 5820K. It is much faster than the Xeon slow.

Intel Xeon E5640 (4 core) processor clocked at 2.66 GHZ and Intel E5649 (base 6) 2.53 GHZ. What would be better for virtualization? several nuclei or better clock speed?

  Am just concluding the planning phase for a complete reorganization of our (small) VMware infrastructure.  Currently have 2 x popular Dell PowerEdge 2950 with 16 GB of RAM as ESX 3.5 hosts.  Are four-core Intel Xeon L5335 (2 GHz, 1333 MHz FSB) processor.  As I buy some new Dell R710 my production ESX hosts and installing vSphere 4.0 on them, I want to reuse my 'old' ESX hosts:

  1 for the virtual machines to Test and run backup

  1 for the purposes of the DR

  In the host used for virtual machines to Test/Backup, I want to use vmDirectPath to connect two external SATA hard drives.  I've been watching various documents and discussions here.  In a discussion, someone has posted:

  «Do not mix VT - d (VMDirectPath i/o) and VT (hardware assisted virtualization).»

  Hi, I was wondering if I need different software or?   Tent for upgrade achieve performance more than one old computer.   When I turn on the computer, it starts to initialize, then turns on the blue screen, all new material that was added.   3.6 GHz was also used in the 650's.  Just by looking at the cpu they look the same to me.  Any ideas is better than what I have now.   Dell number is 4QXB451
