Intel E5300 E7400 processor vs duo core?

I am to evaluate where to put my money with a new computer "exactly."  As I evaluate each component, I wonder whether to go standard or upgrade.  I am now to the question of the processor... ideas?  I would use the computer for regular MOM stuff, but my children will play the Sims 2 on it.  Any input?  Thanks in advance...

Lori

Hi Lori,

Looks like you are looking for a desktop PC.  Is this fair?  I think you'll be fine with a processor.  Specification of the game says you need a processor clocked at 1.8 GHz or higher (2.4 GHz for Vista).  It said the two processors to meet this requirement.  The E5300 is clock speed 2.6 GHz.  The E7400 is 2.8 GHz.

I would lean towards the E5300 however.  I would like to buy a minimum of 2 GB of RAM.  Maybe 3 GB RAM for Vista.  And maybe get a dedicated video card.  For e-mail, web browsing, word processing, banking online, either CPU should be fine.

Here are just a few notes on your question.

For Intel processor Pentium E5300 here look specifications:

For Intel processor Core 2 Duo CPU E7400 here look specifications:

It's a more difficult question for me to answer because of the fact that they are in families of different processors.  One is a Pentium and the other is a Core 2 Duo.  But both have two hearts.

If you are interested here are Intels reason for upgrading to a Core 2 duo processor:
http://download.Intel.com/products/processor/Core2Duo/desktop_prod_brief.PDF

The minimum system requirements for The Sims 2 Apartment Life is as follows:
* The Sims 2 base game (The Sims 2, The Sims 2 Deluxe, the Sims 2 Double Deluxe, The Sims 2 DVD special edition or the Sims 2 Holiday Edition all contain the base game)
* 1.8 GHz or higher (2.4 GHz for Vista)
* 1 GB OF RAM
* Windows Vista, Windows XP, Windows ME, Windows 98 or Windows 2000
* 8 x or more fast CD/DVD drive for the physical version
* At least 1.0 GB of hard disk space additional (total of 5.0 GB is required if you install the Sims 2 and The Sims 2 Teen Style Stuff at the same time).
* A T & L compatible video card with at least 32 MB of RAM video.

Personally, I'd put your money in addition to RAM since Vista can always use more memory.  But I don't think that you will have problems with a processor to play Sims 2.

Wait and see what offers other people.

The core 2 duo has more Tcase allowed time up to 74 ° C to 73 ° C to my current pentium dual core E2160 and both have the same TDP of 65 w. do you think I should change the radiator?

    Hello @Mario28,

I read your post about how you are curious about a heatsink and fan for a new CPU update on your computer, and I'd be happy to help you in this case!

Because both processors are so close in the temperature and the heat output, the heatsink even you were using previously should still actually cool the new processor, so it is mounted correctly.

    I hope this helps!

Yes, you will be able to run Windows 7 64 bit on this system, but it may not be quick.

  • Pavilion 550z: is the A6 AMD processor - 8550 Quad Core or not?

I am mixes signals that the AMD a6-8550 processor is Quad Core or not.  As I read the document of AMD for this processor, I see that it contains 2 CPU and 4 GPU (a "APU" using architecture HSA).  But in the announcement of HP, it explicitly says "Quad Core".

I was under the assumption that the GPU are used for video processing, but the documentation AMD says that the GPU use also for general treatment.

I'm not a 'gamer', and I wanted a machine at a reasonable price (the 550z Pavilion) to run several virtual OS, so having 4 cores was very attractive to me.

  • XW6400 problem two processors with four cores

I have a XW6400 who I am rebuilding as a gift for a friend. The thing is brand new and never been used.

    My problem... First record:

    Dual Xeon 5130

    8Gb Ram 2RX8

Asus GT740 1 GB graphics card

    PCI-e USB card 3

StarTech Sata III PCI - e card (ready for SSD)

    Win 7 Ultimate 64 bit

    BIOS 2.38

1 TB WD Caviar Black HARD drive

I managed to get their hands on two Xeon 5410 but after their installation, all that I get out the monitor is... "Power save mode, press any key or move the mouse"... neither of which has no effect.

However, when I put the 5130's back in, it fires quite happy.

I have built a certain PC in the past (including another XW6400) but this problem is quite a head scratcher.

    Thanks in advance.

    Rob.

    Rob,

Don't scratch no more.  You try to load a Xeon Quad Core for a xw6600 in a xw6400.  In theory, you might think that it will work.  It will not... the only processors Attaché who work are listed in the QuickSpecs for the xw6400,.  It has to do with the "section of the BIOS firmware, which includes a white list of specific processors that are allowed.  The quad core Xeon desired is E5345, last sSpec code (SLAEJ), on eBay.  Buy one and if we're going to work, then you can add a second.  I have a 'well known' an in my stash, but practically all I bought used off eBay work very well.

There are about 10% of the mothers xw6400 who cannot run this processor, and in this case, I have two of the fastest dual core Xeon running in the list, the E5160, last sSpec code (SLAG9).

I would recommend running the Intel X 25 - M 160 GB or 320 series 160 or 300 GB, used off eBay.  Run firstly through DBAN, then long NTFS format.  Use W7Pro 64-bit or Ultimate 64-bit and load properly with the little ones and the primary partitions.  These particular Intel SSDS are very fast, corresponds to plug SATAII chipset and use the latest version of the Intel Toolbox.  Your WD is a nice document reader.

You can run the card USB3 of TI of HP, I posted here and a great way to get an output of 2 x 2 (two ports on the back, two in the front) is detailed.  The xw6600 allows you to get the full speed of the slot machine video PCIe x 16 second for USB3, but the xw6400 limits you to 1/2 full speed because of its use of the PCIe gen 1 rather than gen 2 slots for this card.

I would stick as much as possible with the help of what is on the motherboard, rather than load a bunch of useless cards to get things running and stabilized.  You need not of USB3 and SATA gen III for your friend to have a solid rock and great user experience.

    All the information is here...

Very nice of you to help your friend.  This new xw6400 has always good life in it, especially if you can do two processor E5345 SLAEJ.  Or, two of the E5160s.

Favorite good cheap used video card: Quadro FX1800, any OEM and the HP firmware update on this subject.

  • Hello! I want to replace Intel Pentium T4300 processor Intel processor QX9300. Is it possible?

    This processor Intel Core 2 Extreme QX9300 (AW80581ZH061003) SLB5J CPU 1066/2.53 GHz

    Specification of the motherboard:

    Manufacturer: Acer

    Model: JV50

    GM45/GM47 game

    Southbridge: Intel 82801IM (ICH9-M)

    Back on my laptop:

SNID; [private under the leadership of life]

    Best regards
    Catalin

Acer does not show on the T4300 CPU upgrade. I don't think that the QX9300 will work just because I saw others trying to upgrade a T a q and it never worked.

If you can find a seller that it will have to come back if it doesn't work, give it a try.

I would probably try the T9500 or 9600 T if I was going to upgrade this laptop. T4400 to T9600 worked for me on a Dell computer.

  • HP Compaq dc7700 SFF PC can be upgraded to support a 2.66 GHz Intel Core2Duo (E7300) processor?

My HP Compaq dc7700 desktop PC small form factor is equipped with a processor replacement of Intel Core2Duo 2.66 GHz (E7300), Stepping/CPU ID 10676, but I now have a start-up error message: "1801 - Microcode patch error.»  Missing or not valid processor updated Microcode.  "Please contact Hewlett - Packard Company for a new firmware update to support the new processor Stepping.

(The computer start in pressing 'F1', but performance deteriorated due to invalid processor Microcode Update).

I sent to HP, but have yet to receive an answer.   (They may have bigger problems right now!)

The HP documentation for the dc7700 is ambiguous about whether if an E7300 processor would be sustained.  In this regard, the documentation recommends against editing processors more than 95W, but the E7300 is only a 65W processor (exactly the same as the original processor E6300).

I've updated the PC system BIOS (786E1, Rev 1.16, the most recent available on the HP relevant support Web page):

    http://h20000.www2.HP.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareIndex.jsp?lang=en & cc = us & prodNameId = 3232108 &...

"(mais malheureusement, il semble que Rev 1.16 n'inclut pas une mise à jour de Microcode valide pour le processeur E7300)."

It seems that I may need to wait and hope that HP will issue a valid and new Update Microcode for the E7300 dc7700 support page.  (With luck, the update of firmware would be included in an update of the BIOS which can be implemented through the windows, not via a legacy floppy!)

(I note that Intel provides an easy firmware update, but it is not easy for those who are running a Linux Enterprise operating system.  I am running Windows Vista Business 64-bit).

This is my first post.  Thanks for all the tips on the problem that I outlined above.

    Thank you Paul and Frank,

The evidence you presented against compatibility has begun to address substantial.

Furthermore, it is probably not conclusive in itself, but Intel motherboards with a chipset Q965 (at least the names of the Council containing the string '965') also do not appear to support beyond E6700 processors...

    http://processormatch.Intel.com/COMPDB/SearchResult.aspx?BoardName=DG965SS

I'd be happy to call my request 'resolved' - has answered in the negative.   Thanks again and well done! to each of you.

  • Duo Core VS Quad Core Gaming Gaming

    Hey guys!

Saving im for a gaming computer and im wondering if the game double heart is dead? Or it may crash with the quad cores!

A good example is I looked in my local computer store, same features except one had intel core i5 760 (quad core) with 5770, while the other had it intel core i5 650 (dual-core) with 5850... I can't decide which one to buy, or simply save for an amd phenom2 x 4 955 with a 5850?

Hope you get a useful answer here, but in the meantime have a read of:

    1 CPU hierarchy-

    http://www.TomsHardware.co.UK/best-gaming-CPU-core-i5-760-core-I7-970, 7.html - 31969-review

and read all the pages esp the ' best game CPU for $210: ' page.

    Hierarchy of 2 GPU-

    http://www.TomsHardware.co.UK/gaming-graphics-card-recommendation-upgrade, 7.html - 32078-review

again have an esp reading the ' best PCIe Card for ~ $ 135:' page.

Also do a search on google, there are not many messages for this sort of thing.

It's hard to say what is best for you, to others depends on what you mostly want to do. But personally I don't think that there should be a difference between or total advantage with each system. Personally, I would hope that the Quad core should be perhaps more future-proof, but who can tell in the useful life of these computers?

Yet until a certain response happens, hope this helps.
