Internet bandwidth economy with home sharing

Hello

I did some quick research, but has not been able to find an answer to this...

I have an Apple TV 4 and I buy and stream iTunes movies and television on a regular basis. In an effort to save internet bandwidth, I wonder if I download movies / TV shows to my iMac and activate home sharing, will be my Apple TV then disseminate these to my iMac or will he continue to stream from the file iTunes servers?

Thank you.

Hi there Antonio0279,

Yes indeed you can save bandwidth by using home sharing to view media on your computers! You must go through the computers rather than the streaming app to say that iTunes and this article has more information on this topic:

  • To find shared libraries, go to the main menu, select computers, and then choose a library.
  • You can also view photos from your computer to your Apple TV: open iTunes on your computer. Then go to file > home sharing > select the Photos to share with the Apple TV.

    Hello

I have 1000 movies that were not purchased via iTunes but are in my iTunes library and when I try to watch them on my apple tv (through sharing the House and then the my computer application), I start the letter and scroll down (if I want to watch something on the letter W let) and it takes forever.  Is there a faster way to scroll or search for the movie by name?  When I use siri it appears the movie from the itunes store, and not in my library.  Very frustrating that it can take me 10 minutes to find a movie I want to watch.  Any help?

Hi, not much help, I'm afraid. You should try the suggestion box, https://www.apple.com/feedback/appletv.htmland let them know how it could be improved. Siri is probably out of the question, however, because it is based on a database built specifically for content to iTunes.

  • AppleTV lose synchronization with the home sharing

First my set up: I have an AppleTV 2nd gen and the AppleTV 3rd gen (both up to date), the 10 Windows computer, iTunes 12.3.2.35 (the latest version), Airport Express (also updated) router hooked up to the modem to my cable company (bought airport because the wifi on the cable modem was crap and I had to reboot the modem on a daily basis). I put both the Windows Firewall and the firewall on the cable modem to accept UDP Port 5353 Hello (in fact, that morning on the Windows Firewall is configured to accept any port).

The problem: for the first eight months, I got the Airport Express, it was great. I was finally able to use reliably the AppleTV without having to reboot, nothing. A few weeks ago, I started having problems when I turn on the AppleTV and he told me that she could not access share and I want to ensure that the computer is on the same network, iTunes updated and these. Everything is up to date and I have only a single network appliances signed in. Usually restart iTunes solves the problem, but this isn't really an option when one of the AppleTV is connected to and play something iTunes. At this stage you can still stream purchases iTunes, YouTube and other apps, it does not recognize only the computer itunes library. Go to the general tab and then by restarting the AppleTV don't work, or don't disconnect and reconnect it to the network. On rare occasions, I had just restart everything (not sure if the router and the modem that requires restarting, but as I expected the computer I thought it have not harmed).

I wonder if someone can offer a preview/advice as to why the AppleTV intermittently does not recognize your computer for sharing, especially when the other AppleTV is fortunately streaming something from the iTunes library on my PC. I want to say that it worked very well at the start of the latest version (12.3.0.44), but she definitely felt the connection problem until 12.3.2.35 was released and it did not get better with the update. Googling around the internet, I saw comments on disabling IPv6, but I prefer not to do that because it is likely to cause other problems on the road.

  • Intermittent home sharing - TS suggestions?

I've read numerous reports online with home sharing being super intermittent. I'm usually pretty good when it comes to troubleshooting, but have found myself confused on this issue. Sharing home worked a lot in the past, but as of recent it has gotten to the point were the video I watch will drop every 5 minutes or so and I have to re connect to the server.

    The installation program looks like

    • Mac Mini Late 2009 (2.26 GHz with 8 GB ram) connected by ethernet an Airport Extreme CA (setting for PPoE)
    • 12 iTunes (the latest version as of 26 September)
    • Mac OS X 10.11.6
    • iPad 2 Air with iOS 10.0.1
    • iPhone with iOS 10.1 + 7
    • All of the devices in question have a static iP (at the lower end of the scale)
    • Also running Mac OS Server on the mac Mini however this has always been the case even when the home sharing works.
Signed and off home sharing on all devices and the problem persists on the iPhone and the iPad that makes me think that it may have something to do with home sharing. Don't forget that I can access my Mac Mini remotely via google remote desktop without interruption since the iPad in the same exact place it is de-energized. Internet abandon, however home sharing does. She also is de-energized at random points in the video, if I had to watch the video again, it would be a different point, so doesn't seem to be a problem with the file.

OK so I solved my problem, the issue seemed to come from my mac sharing the iTunes Media folder. I turn off file sharing and it seemed to have solved the problem.

  • Apple TV home sharing does not (10 Windows, iTunes 12.4.1.6)

I have two 3rd generation Apple TV in my house and home sharing used to work perfectly on it when the contents of the copy of iTunes on my desktop Windows 10 streaming. But since than do a clean install of Windows 10 that has not worked.

I search online for the solution and have tried everything... but nothing works.

It is not the firewall on the computer or the router by turning off both makes no difference

Running iTunes in mode of different compatibility does not help

Change the name of computers do not do...

Someone at - it any other ideas?

AirPlay works perfectly, it's just the sharing House that doesn't.

    Thanks in advance

For home sharing work, ATV and iTunes must be on the same Apple ID This does affect airtime. Check the ID on your iTunes. You can find information here for help with home - sharing Apple support. Moreover, the firewall of the router, which focuses on internet traffic has nothing to do with it. The Windows Firewall must open certain ports to allow communication between different machines.

  • Home sharing broken in El Capitan?

I had a House sharing installation work for years with several Apple TV and IOS devices.  That recently all crashing stopped strangely right around the time that I have improved the main iMac to 10.11 - I do not use home for really - iOS devices sharing but they also lose the connection.

It's all signed the same network.

The ATV3 has the Apple ID and password correct and aims the sharing of home - but never connects

iTunes 12 has all the home share switches ON, good Apple ID, password, but cannot be discovered.

used for all iOS devices can access the share House too - is no longer.  Same deal - all set up right - just DOA.

All devices have been restarted, but not deleted / reset - yet.

I tried all the Troubleshooting FAQ I could find, but so far no joy.

Another bit of suspicious coincidence - I also lost the ability to print via WiFi at the same time.  I had to order really long USB cables for our printers.  I Doub ' t it's the router because it is relatively new and works fine for internet throughout the entire House.  It has been restarted too however.

    Any ideas?

Can you confirm that your Mac is on the same local network that your Apple TV and other devices?  I have a cable modem with a wireless router, which offers a secondary network of Wi - Fi (separated) as one 'hotspot' for others subscribe to cable.  Once, when I rebooted, my Mac connected to another network for any reason whatsoever, and although I had Internet access, I was wondering why I couldn't see my other Mac and Airport base station.  Another time (for many years), my Mac connected to a (non-secure) WiFi network nearby and I have not noticed immediately.

This is more than just a problem with home sharing in iTunes.

  • Home sharing password

I was under the impression that the Apple ID password and home sharing password were one and the same, however, when I try and connect to the share house I get the message "home sharing could not be enabled because Apple ID or password is incorrect.". My ID never changed and I must admit for several days, I changed my password several times in the hope of being able to connect. The password works with everything except the home sharing.

  • Home sharing turned on with a PC to transfer music?

I am trying to find a way to transfer my music files on my iPhone.   I have a MacBook 2.1 (OS X 10.6.8) I'm currently using to synchronize with my iPad (3rd generation) and two iCloud backup devices.  I recently inherited an iPhone 4S of my son and I would like to put my music on the iPhone file.  Apparently, the iPhone requires the latest version of iTunes on the MacBook one because iTunes doesn't recognize iPhone or it syncs music to the iPhone.  I also have access to a Windows laptop that recognizes the iPhone when I connected via USBport I could use as a substitute for the MacBook.  The only question is: can I use home sharing to place my music library and playlists on the PC, so I can sync the PC to the iPhone and there at - it a step by step procedure how to set up the House sharebetween two computers?

    Hey, Darrell.

    Please visit Apple support communities.

I understand that you want to move your MacBook to your computer Windows Media so that you can synchronize with your iPhone 4S.  There are several ways that this can be done, and I'll include the step by step guide on how to move your media.

Once this is done, you can sync your iPhone with your Windows computer and here are the steps on how to go through this process so unfamiliar.

  • Problem in the Internet by Wi - Fi connection sharing

I used programs such as Virtual Wi - Fi and Connectify in the past to share my Internet connection. But recently, when I tried to do the same thing, I can't do it. My default internet connection is via ethernet. When I connect it to my laptop, it detects just like a LAN, then I again connect to the internet by entering the user name and password. So after you connect to the Internet, I'll have two connections, a LAN without internet access and others with access to the Internet.

Now to share my Internet via Wi - Fi, which connection choose to allow this connection for internet sharing tab of the properties of share?

Also when I install Connectify, Internet is disconnected. When I uninstall it, his work.

I tried Virtual Wifi, its creation of a wifi connection to share my internet and I am able to connect to it, but the internet does not work.

And then I tried to create ad - hoc wireless network, after giving a name, etc., there is no option to enable internet sharing on this network that usually does.

  • Home sharing a fall of Apple TV 3 rd gen.

I have two devices. A MacBook Air 13 inch (2013) and a new iMac 27 K 5 in. end 2015 (OS 10.11.6). The iTunes is the last 12.1.5.21 and once on the version previous home sharing would be cut at random on my Apple 3rd GEN MacBook Air TV is never a problem, just this iMac. Yesterday I fixed in signing off everything, leave iTunes, restarted my iMac, reboot of the Capsule of ancient times - not sure of the model, then by restarting Apple TV. He was working back. Then I just tried this and failed. Then, I am registered on the sharing House Apple TV and iTunes from iMac, restarted the router and voila it worked. Now while typing this it just cut off again. This is while watching videos streaming on Apple TV, the main reason I bought the thing.

Now I try the same procedure to see if it will work. Why - what is falling all the time. I am registered on iTunes, but Apple TV says that I am not connected. This is getting very frustrating.

    HI T - dude,

Thank you for using communities of Apple Support. From what you have said, it seems that for Apple TV streaming home sharing is cutting.  Looks like you already have a troubleshooting. There are a few things that we can do that you mentioned not try again. I recommend you read these articles, since this seems consistent throughout a few Macs, maybe it's a problem with the AppleTV.

  • ATV 4 Home sharing

Other owners ATV4 still encounter home sharing questions? People send feedback to Apple on the subject?

I hope that the last update would have fixed the problem but it didn't. Instead, the ATV4 collects only dust like using the Roku is less boring that restart the ATV4s every time I want to connect to the share of the House and the Sling on Roku app flow is much better than the ATV.

  • Apple TV in error 'enable home sharing '.

Years, I got an AppleTV on each of our 3 TV.  I have them, then connect via "Computers" to my iMac which is running iTunes and my library of movies more than 2,000 movies.  I've never had a problem with the part 'Computers' on the AppleTV not just have all my movies, music and TV he meet and watch.  However, I just moved and since then almost every time I want to watch a movie on my computer to the AppleTV article it says that my home sharing is not enabled.  Which is not at all the case.  Sharing my house is ALWAYS on.  And I let my iTunes always run continuously (I learned that when I set all this up - it won't work without being on my iMac iTunes).  I had this running correctly for years and now it does not work.  If I go on my iMac and unsleep-so I quit iTunes, then open it again - then everything rises.  It's very embarrassing and I know that's not the way it is supposed to work.  Any advice would be GREATLY appreciated.  Thank you!

  • Is it possible to stream DVD of ICloud instead of iTunes home sharing via my computer?

I would like to be able to download my DVD somehow so I can play them all Apple TV (gen 4) instead of airplaying them or having to maintain the computer to share the home of my iTunes (latest version). As it is, if I want to watch a DVD, downloaded on my Apple TV I must select COMPUTERS and go into my library to select the movie and then keep my computer over time. I managed to download a DVD on my Icloud player hoping to be able to stream the DVD from there nothing doesn't. I do not understand why this is the case and am unable to find any resources that explain the case however, I'm rather new to all this and perhaps, I not looking in the right places. Second of all, why can't I just go to the MOVIES on Apple TV and find them there with the rest of my movies as opposed to strictly buy films he and others else where; they are all good movies? Put them in the category FILM (it is more a problem of Apple, I guess). Is it possible to stream my DVDs to iCloud instead of iTunes home sharing via my computer? Any information or guidance would be appreciated thank you for taking the time to answer my questions.

When you look at the top row of the applications the homescreen are apps from iTunes Store.

So the only films - purchased are one you purchesed from iTunes. It is the same for other applications in the same row.

Focus on Plex to broadcast your own films as an alternative to the use of computers on the Apple TV.
