Hello
I have a bad experience on my virtual infrastructure. I'm just applied ESX4 and connected to the Fujitsu SAN storage, I face the corrupt VMFS partition 2 times a week. I have the call log to support and found that VMware part is no problem, and my storage vendor has also found that the storage is health. I don't know what to do now, someone has this experience can give some advice?

Qosmio x 500 - 14W - invalid partition table
Hay guys,
I wanted to start my Toshiba Quosmio x 500 - 14W PQX33E (Product Code), but the only thing I found on my desk: invalid partition table.
In another Forum I found a threat, which means I have to restart my computer. So I tried a Reboot Cd, but found nothing. Then I tried to call the Call Center of Toshiba, but they are closed...
For me, is the Toshiba Service miserably and I hope that some guys from the Forum can help me.
Thank you
PaulHello
You must install the operating system once more.
Invalid partition table means that something is wrong with the HARD drive and the operating system cannot start.
So if you n t have a recovery disk, you must order one:
http://backupmedia.Toshiba.EU/landing.aspxPS: I made good experience with the Toshiba service comparing the service with another laptop from the manufacturer I have to say that s OK and I meet a lot of people who said that other manufacturers are not really better
Which; s my opinion -
invalid partition table is displayed on my screen, pl help out me...
Exactly what happened before you saw the error message?

How to recover the partition table (corrupt) for the partition in good health?
Partition (drive H) was working fine, then I rebooted my system normally and the drive is now inaccessible.
"An error occurred reading the file: the file or directory is corrupted and unreadable." (1392).
Window CMD CHKDSK says NTFS file system and "unable to determine the State and version volume.»
[This is a disk external drive with 2 partitions on it - H and Mr. the second partition (drive M) discs works fine.]

VMFS partition table corruption? Need help to retrieve data
My House ESXi 5.1 was installed on HP Microserver G7. Hypervisor on USB-flash, datastore on Adaptec 3405.
After some problems of power electro Microserver is will not start and I have chosen to build the new server on Microserver Gen8. I moved Adaptec and disks in the new box, installed new ESXi 5.5 U1 (HP image) on USB and after reboot did not store data :-(.
After some research, I found that ESXi is not see any partition table on this raid array:
partedUtil getptbl /vmfs/devices/disks/mpx.vmhba2:C0:T0:L0
unknown
728422 255 63 11702108160
BUT! I tried to start the server of linux liveCD with vmfs-tools 0.2.5 installed partition mounted with vmfs-fuse and able to see the data! But cannot copy all important vmdk (see below).
debugvmfs is also show me some useful information:
Volume Version: 14

Creation date: 2012-02-02 23:17:44
Block size: 1 MiB
Subblock size: 8 KiB
Size of header of the FDC: 64 KiB
County of FDC Bitmap: 64
and it's very strange
debugvmfs/dev/sda1 see the lvm.extent [0]
Device: / dev/sda1
UUID: 4f2ac4da-8de4b166-a-441ea13ee615 848
LUN: 0
Version: 5
Name:
Size: 459.99 GiB
NUM. Segments: 22319
First Segment: 0
Last Segment: 22318
because I don't know that I don't create scopes.
Also, there are two vmdk files on more than 256 GB data store and it cannot copy because of the limitation of vmdk-tools :-(.
I tried to do a magic (like this - partedUtil setptbl "/ vmfs/devices/disks/mpx.vmhba2:C0:T0:L0" GPT "1 2048 11702099429 AA31E02A400F11DB9590000C2911D1B8 0""), but without success;-(.)
All the suggestions, guys?
Finally!
Found that was an "Intel VT - d" enabled in the BIOS. After disable it everything is cool.
It looks like Adaptec 3405 working wrong with it. Will try to change it to P222.

The partition table is the main hard disk index, indicating to the computer what stored where... what part of the hard disk contains the Windows operating system, which contains the files of restoration, which part contains utilities, and so forth. If this table is damaged, the computer can not tell what is stored where. To aid the recovery partition will not work because the computer is no longer able to see. You would need a set of CD recovery or restoration of the manufacturer of the computer to restore it. Before you do, you must run a set of diagnostics of hard disk on the disk to make sure that this is going only to fail again.

Partition table / no entry of safe mode
HERE'S MY QUESTION:
I'M TRYING TO RECOVER MY XP DESKTOP COMPUTER. WHENEVER I TRY not to enter MY "SAFE MODE" VIA THE XP CD I GET NO PASSAGE. NORMALLY I CAN GO THROUGH LOG BUT I'VE NOW DAMAGED A PARTITION. I USED THE HELP FILE (FIXMBR) HERE IS THE MESSAGE I HAVE,
* THIS COMPUTER SEEMS TO HAVE A NON STANDARD OR INVALID MASTER BOOT RECORD *.
FIXMBR may damage your partition tables if you continue (of course I did). This could cause all of your scores on the current hard disk to become inaccessible.
If you have problems to access your drive, DO NOT CONTINUE (of course I did)
Are you sure you want to write a new MBR? (of course I checked yes)
Then... If I'm screwed? I have to buy a new hard drive? I can solve this problem? Can I use the old as a ghost player to get my files?

This seems really odd. Do you have all the partitions on these 4 discs when you first installed ESXi?
What version of ESXi you originally installed (3.5 or 4.0) in the case where that this system has been upgraded?
Please after the release of fdisk-lu for all 4 disks in the system.

Adding Partition for a partitioned Table

I am trying to add a new Partition:
ALTER table movements Add partition
(partition TRANSACTIONS_JTS VALUES LESS THAN (TO_DATE (' 2012-03-01 00:00:00 ',' SYYYY-MM-DD HH24:MI:SS ',' NLS_CALENDAR = GREGORIAN ')));
But get this error:

Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance,

Looks like you have one to several "Partition", delete this as well as the unnecessary parentheses.
ALTER TABLE transactions ADD PARTITION transactions_jts VALUES LESS THAN (TO_DATE(' 2012-03-01 00:00:00', 'SYYYY-MM-DD HH24:MI:SS', 'NLS_CALENDAR=GREGORIAN'));

I installed a new ESXi 4 server on a HP DL380 G5 server with local hard drives and a controller RAID P400. The OS partition consists of two 146 G 15K SAS drives in a RAID 1 + 0 (mirrored) configuration. I read that you need to align the partitions in order to obtain the best performance of e/s, but all the instructions I see are for version 3.x. (I am the rest of the paper found here: http://www.vmware.com/pdf/esx3_partition_align.pdf). Is it necessary to align partitions in version 4, or which is done automatically with the installation now?
Here are the instructions in this document:
*
Instructions for VMware VMFS Partition
Alignment using fdisk
*
To verify that your existing partitions are aligned, the command:
Fdisk-lu
The result is similar to:
Starting the device start end blocks Id system
unknown/dev/sdj1 128 167766794 83883333 + fb
Alignment of the partitions start at 128. If the starting value is 63 (default), the partition is not aligned.
If you choose not to use the VI Client and create partitions with vmkfstools, or if you want to
align the installation default partition before using it, follow these steps to use fdisk to align
a partition manually from the ESX Server service console:
1. type fdisk/dev/SD & lt; x & gt; where & lt; x & gt; is the suffix of the device.
2. determine if any VMware VMFS partition already exists. VMware VMFS partitions are
identified by a partition system fb ID. Type d to delete to remove these partitions.
Note: This destroys all data currently residing on VMware VMFS partitions you delete.
Make sure that you back up the data first if you need.
3 type n to create a new partition.
4. type p to create a primary partition.
5 type 1 to create the partition No. 1.
6. Select the defaults to use the full disk.
7. type t to set the system ID. the partition
8 type fb to set the ID of partition system on fb (VMware VMFS volume).
9. type x to switch to expert mode.
10 type b to set the starting point.
11 type 1 to choose partition 1.
12. type 128 set to 128 (element of the array allocation size).
13. type w to write the label information and the partition on the disk. Here are the results when I run fdisk-lu:

I can't past the first step in the instructions because they say that I should see something like/dev/sd (x) in my outings. What I got instead is dev/disks/mpx.vmhba1... Even if I try to substitute my output for which is listed in the output, I get an error message from the console.
Can you please give me some advice? I understand that once the ESXi is installed and data warehouses are created using the vClient, all right, but I need to know if I have to align the ESXi installation first, before we get to the creation of data warehouses in ESXi.
Thanks in advance for your comments,
Chris
I just re-read your message. If you create the VMFS partition via the VI client, the partition will be automatically aligned so you don't need to use fdisk to align it. If you are using LInux guests, then you should align the partition within the virtual machine. If you use WIndows clients, and then use diskpart to align the partitions.
