Invisible NIC for ESX but seen by lspci

This may be a simple solution, but I'm not find resolution.  Run ESX 4.0 on Dell R710 with a NIC four ports on the motherboard and four ports in PCI1 NIC, turning off the system to add a second NIC to four ports PCI2 (same brand and the seller as the first), fed by system up, but does not have the new network adapters plugged into what either.  VCenter brought to the top but the second quad-port NIC is not seen by ESX, but can be seen when I do an lspci | grep 'Ethernet '.  Esxcfg-NICS - l does not show the new NETWORK map either because I guess that it will only show these network cards known or used by ESX.  Is it possible to have the system will reload the drivers without restarting the computer for "Unknown device" NETWORK card ports and allow them to be seen by ESX?  If this isn't the case, should ports be connected to a switch device or network for the ESX to recognize that they exist in order to use?

Output of commands:

# lspci | grep 'Ethernet '.

    Hello

I am facing the following problem when trying to boot PXE Vmware Vsphere (ESX 4.0). I'm stuck at the error message which said 'no cos NICS found' Please find attached to this screenshot.

I would like to briefly on what I'm trying to do here:

I try to perform a boot PXE Vmware Vsphere on Vmware Workstation and have managed to a point, until I get this weird error mentioned above.

    (1) used Vmware Workstation version is 6.5.0

    (2) confg H/W:

Lenovo T61 laptop computer with processor intel core duo x 86 and virtualization enabled in BIOS

delivered with 2 physical network cards & wireless and 2 GB of RAM.

    (3) PXE server is running on RHEL5 32 bit platform. I have a DHCP, Kickstart and PXE server to run out of this box. DHCP works perfectly well without any problem but when it is a step for the identification of the host name.

IP and so forth he said cos NICs not found and I see my dhcp server attempts to assign dynamic IP and it also displays no signal thank you.

I have PXE starts ESX 3.5 with no problems and it worked like a charm. This is the first time, I ran into problems of this kind. I manually installed ESX 4.0 but it seems no more using the anaconda Installer and

the installation of the Poles kickstart file created is very discreet and does not contain sufficient information to customize the script is below.

Please find the entry that I have under the pxelinux.cfg directory on my PXE server:

    label esx4.0

    kernel esx4.0 - vmlinuz

    append initrd = esx4.0 - initrd.img mem = 512 M quiet ks = FTP:///pub/kickstart/ESX4.0.cfg ksdevice = vmnic0

I'm also willing to share my script to start with you. Please find attached the script below. Kindly let me know how to proceed further. I would be really grateful if you could suggest if any changes to do to my

    startup script.

    See you soon,.

  • Unable to connect to target iSCSI for ESX 3.5

    Hi all

I have an esx 3.5 build 82663 (update 1). We took over this company, so we are migrating this data center. I understand tha patch isn't 5 update but it wasn't our environment and we try to turn it on.

    We have three esx servers

    (1) console production svc - 192.168.7.x

    (2) storage network - 192.168.9.x

    EqualLogic 3)-192.168.9.x

    (4) storage Switch - CISCO 3750 Switch

    (5) frames enabled on vswitch, vmknic, physical, switch, network interface cards, table vlan and storage.

    (6) software iscsi client allowed an outgoing connection through 3260 (tcp)

    Performed troubleshooting

esxcfg-vmknic - l - seems ok and with activated jumbo frames

esxcfg-NICS - l - looks ok with activated jumbo frames

esxcfg-vswitch - l - looks ok with activated jumbo frames

    esxcfg-road - l - (looks good)

    192.168.7.0 255.255.255.0 local subnet

    192.168.9.0 255.255.255.0 local subnet

    by default 0.0.0.0 192.168.7.1

Works of vmkping between the storage network interfaces (192.168.7.x) i.e. physical switch, equallogic, and other interfaces for esx storage network.

vmkping s 9000 192.168.9.11 (equallogic san) works without packet loss.

Ping does not work between interfaces.

Ping of physical switch to the san and esx equallogic storage network interfaces work

Access to LUNS equallogic shared among interfaces are restrticted by the ip address of storage network (192.168.9.x). The LUNS they check marks against them to have several initiators communicate with them.

    No enabled chap authentication anywhere.

I had another server with the same configuration connection to it without problems to the only difference is esxi can be accessed and the esx servers cannot access.

Our environment has been only esxi. This is the first time I use esx and a system of update 1 for iSCSI.

I'm on the critical path to complete the project.

It would be useful that I can get all the help you can.

    See you soon,.

    Knockaert

If I'm not mistaken in your service console needed to have access to the storage network 3.5 too.  Try to configure a second service on the storage network console and see if you can view the LUNS.   Can also be useful to filter through the vmkernel logs and see if you notice any errors.

  • Change the path information for ESX ESXi hosts to access

Hello all! I hope you guys can help me.

I have about 47 hosts that I need to change it Round Robin storage path information. If I make the change in vCenter and restart the host it again changing fixed. So, I thought that I should change it to the level of the host through esxicli.

I have about twice as many LUNS of the Hitachi SAN. I'd like to see if it is possible to make the change in all areas, in some way, or I need to make the change by host? Also, is there anything that I need to change sides San so that it works or not.

I saw this VMware KB: modification of path information for ESX/ESXi hosts to access and assume that it is the best plan? But did not know of all put into custody, if necessary, that everyone ran to when doing this?

You will need to make the change by the host and the KB you'll find is the right method.

  • NIC in ESX

  • Licenses for ESX I have 5 vs physical Reources hosts

I hope somone can answer this question for me.

    My script is as follows

    4 x Dell R710 each with

    2 x CPU sockets

    288 GB OF RAM

Each ESX host is registered with Enterprise Plus

All 4 hosts are in a single cluster of 4 nodes

Given that the new license allows 96 GB of RAM per CPU socket, should I be removing some of the RAM and put it on other servers, or is it possible to apply more licenses for existing servers.  I ask this question because I ran out of memory resources in my cluster.  Yes, I understand the places available in a cluster, but looking at the resources for each host in the summary in vCenter tab, I have more than 60% or more of available memory on each host.

When I run a script in the cluster by looking at the location of cluster information, I used more slots there are.  My cluster admission control policy has been set to 1 host and I was getting the error on the cluster, saying there isn't enough availbale resources for HA., but when I change the policy of cluster control admission to the processor by 20% and 20% of RAM, I have no problem with HA failover ability resources (even though I'm 96% for the current Capcity of failover memory).

Any suggestion would be greatley appreciated.

    See you soon

    Ant

Welcome to the community - a thing to do you know, it's memory is not phtysical of RAM but vortual RAM (vRAM) - the amount of memory used by the virtual machines running on the host - the with the company rock you more to use 96 GB x 2 x 4 or 768 GB vRAM in your enfironment - and that is also a rolling 12-month average so you can approve but to ensure that you are in compliance just add the amount of RAM you assign to virtual machines - and if you have a virtual machine with more than 96 GB just treat as 96 GB.

To unferstand what is happening with you cluster HA need for more information on virtual machines running - as the number of processors, amount of memory allocated.

  • MB for ESX 4 - support

Basic question - I have a supermicro MB and did not find anything in a search of the knowledge base - PDSML-LN2 + - I also use a 3Ware raid card (although why he ordered of I don't know since a radi aboard MB).  I tried to find a link for support for ESX 4.0 MB - would appreciate a point in the right direction.  Thanks in advance.

I'm not sure that you will find a list of supported outside enterprise systems hardware.  The first place to check would be the Hardware Compatibility Guide.

It lists no specific motherboards.  On the top of my head, I would say that it is probably not supported, but I have expereince with outside lines on HP Server hardware.  If you can't find the correct information, just try to install it, the worst case that it does not work.

If you try to install this feature for testing, you can load windows or linux and install ESX/ESXi in VMware Server 2.

  • solution for ESX iSCSI SAN

    Hello.

We are looking into getting a SAN iSCSI for ESX.

On readers, y at - there a big difference between sata and sas and sas 10K vs 15K?

How iSCSI performance are compared to the SAN fiber?

Can you guys recommend an iSCSI solution right?

Excerpt from Dell PS4000 and it seems to be a good product.

(On players, is there a big difference between sata and sas and sas 10K vs 15K?)

Yes, 15 k SAS are faster and a bit more expensive, but worth it!

(How iSCSI performance are compared to the fiber SAN?)

ISCSI SAN is not as fast as the fiber, but compared to the local drive is a big improvement for your applications, users, etc.

(You guys can recommend a good iSCSI solution?)

Personally, I think Dell equallogic are great! PS600XV is what I put in place.

  • Electrodes for ESX 3.5 Update 4 (build 153875, early release 2009/03/30)

I update document to build our ESX company for new servers and one of the steps-after installing ESX 3.5 U4- is to get the latest patches of 'CRITICISM' http://support.vmware.com/selfsupport/download/

We do not update - manager

    not yet-

don't ask.  We are always pleased with esxupdate.  In any case, I went to http://support.vmware.com/selfsupport/download/ and unfortunately, I'm a little confused when it comes to the stuff of ESX 3.5.  But after some trial and error on the use of this site, I think I've found the following is true:

    1. do not take into account ALL the patches dated on 30/03/2009, as those who are already installed with the image ISO of ESX 3.5 U4.  This has been confirmed by "esxupdate query.  It shows these all listed/installed.  I guess it makes sense, since the data on the release of ESX 3.5 U4 / 153875 Build is just that - 30/03/2009.

    2. list all patches for ESX 3.5, all classifications and sort by date.  This will show the patches AFTER 30/03/2009, which are available AFTER the ESX 3.5 U4 ONLY really put patches / Build 153875 iso image has been released for download.   This really translates into the listing of all available patches FROM 153875 build is actually released.  As of today, there are 10 patches with April 2009 dates and 5 patches with may 2009 dates.

I'm sure that many of you know already all this, but since I'm new to 3.5 built and have not used this site 'free service' for some time, it took me some time to "understand it".  I am also curious to know if someone told comments.

If you are looking to document a procedure, your best bet would be to include:

Check the release ISO date before starting the installation.

Based on the release date control patches that were released after release date. This means that all the patches would be new which is not part of the iso image.

    I hope this helps.

  • What is the best configuration of RAID practice for ESX 3.5 operating system

    Hi all.

Recently, we encountered a problem.  After the failure of one of the hard drives in RAID 1, all file systems have passed in read-only mode. This table is used only for ESX 3.5 OS. Someone knows how to avoid similar problems in the future? Wich (1, 1 + 0, 5) RAID configuration is optimal for the ESX 3.5 Server?

  • Implementation of the array for esx server

    Hello everyone:

This is my first post here, and I'm a newcomer to virtualization. I've seen given the task of putting in place an esx server. Now, I need to configure a processor computer double hearts HP DL380. I need to set up a 20 GB partition for esx and the rest of the disk space for the second partition for the VMs.

My question is, what is the best configuration of raid for this scenario.

    Thank you.

The best option will be to go for RAID 5 (HP RAID DDG), if you want a higher level of redendany (2 disk failures) go for RAID ADG (RAID 6). I recommend that you create a table and two driving logic. A first for the ESX operating system and second to the VMFS. VMFS to allocate a larger share.

  • Implementation of electronic networks for ESX 3.5 with iSCSI?

Well, I'll have a bit of a problem here...

    I have 3 VLAN:

    ID

    1 - network management

    2 - iSCSI network

3 - production or Guest OS Communication LAN

I can't figure out how to get properly configured ESX or something because my iSCSI storage is not being discovered. Can someone guide me on how my network cards should be configured? I have 6 network adapters and possibly their sticks, but for now I wanted to 1 for ESX management, 1 for iSCSI and 1 for the virtual computer network if that makes sense. If there is a better please let me know, but I defnitely want to configure my iSCSI is own VLAN (2). I have been through a few docs and can't make it work... Thank you...

  • Request for ESX ESXi V

    Hi all

I hope that someone will be able to respond to my request.

ESXi has less content than ESX but they are both the same core either the application version number is the same, or the two version number could be compiled differently.

If someone could answer, I would really appriciate it.

    Thank you

    J

    Hello

ESX and ESXi use roughly the same vmkernel, but that's where things end up. It's really a different beast, more precisely from a safety perspective. For one, there is no feature of SC vswif, but a vmkernel device to be used for the unit of management. There is a lack of defense in depth within the unit of management as well. For the most part while ESX has a firewall built into the supreme court, ESXi does not work and its management unit must be behind a firewall.

SC is a virtual machine in ESX, ESXi management appliance is running within the main vmkernel.

There is no AD, LDAP, Kerberos, etc support in ESXi

VCB can only be used to perform backups.

RCLI and VIC are the best ways to manage ESXi.

Most people break the shell of security to allow SSH in.

ESXi is designed to be behind a firewall. ESX didn't necessarily need to be behind a plus, but does not lose if its management is also located behind a firewall.

    Best regards
