Is an Oracle Instance a Cluster resource

Hello

I try to understand what is considered to be a cluster resource - the Oracle Instance, Oracle Database or both?

When I use "crsctl resource" the Oracle Instance doesn't seem to be a kind of resource

To my knowledge, a cluster resource is something that the cluster monitors and restarts in case of failure - but when you think about it, it's the Oracle Instance that the cluster services monitors on a node given and he'll try to restart in case of failure. So why the Instance does not appear as a Type of resource?

I saw the other definitions for "Resource" that define it as any application that the cluster is running using several nodes.

Thank you

Jim

Hello

Both the database and the instances are resources.

When you create a database register first the database with the CRS and then all instances (srvctl add/database instance).

crsctl res stat - shows you the database as a resource and its associated bodies.

srvctl config database db_name d shows the database as being registered and all instances that are registered with the database.

crs_unregister (and any other utility % crs_) are deprecated.
The best way to remove resources (I think) is with srvctl utility.

  • DRS cluster resource allocation and CPU

    Hi all

I have a question about the allocation of CPU resources to the guests in an environment of DRS. I was under the impression that all physical CPU resources are completely abstract the guest virtual computer. However, I see the following behaviors...

-J' have a cluster DRS with two ESX hosts ~ 59GHz of the total available CPU resources. Physical ESX host computers have several multicore 2.9 GHz (I don't have practical details right now but that is irrelevant)

-J' have a linux comments running RHEL 3.0 which seems high on slightly less than 2.9 GHz.

Now there are a lot of resources of cpu without reserve available to the cluster, but this particular virtual machine can't enter any allocation of processor more than a little less than 2.9 GHz.

So my question is this: are VMs limited CPU resources to the maximum of available resources to a single physical processor on the host, or must it be able to recover more of the DRS cluster resources? (Assuming a single vCPU guest), I can't seem to find any material that provides black and white if that's the case?

If an SSN processing power is limited to the total amount of CPU resources of a single physical processor in the host, which is recommended for a machine that requires more CPU resources? Adding an another vCPU (and running vSMP)? I was under the impression that vSMP should be avoided unless a particular SMV workload could truly take advantage of SMP?

    See you soon,.

    Ben

Well, Yes, each vCPU is limited to the resources of a single processor - there is no aggregate CPU by VM resources.  In the end, son of vCPU of a VM are given for a single CPU.  The only way to improve the performance of the virtual machine, it is just as you wrote - add vCPUs if the guest operating system and applications can use.  The cost is that all threads of vCPU for a virtual computer must be taken together, so if the virtual machine is unable to make their use, the waiting time for this and other virtual machines could increase, degrade their performance of the processor.

A little more info...  An ESX host has one or more contexts of material performance (SESC).  Each core is a HEC.  Each instance of a CPU hyperthreading is also a HEC.  Thus, for a host with two processors Quad-heart and without hyperthreading, the total number of sesc on the host is eight.  Another example; for a host with two single core processors and each processor supports hyperthreading, the total number of sesc is four.

Each vCPU uses a HEC.  A virtual machine with two vCPUs will use two sesc.  According to VMware, ESX will try to prioritize different sockets for use of the VM before two hearts on the same socket and before hyperthreading sesc on the same socket.

    Hi Hulk

You * should * be able to directly start services (Oracle will make crash recovery). The cause is

S/O-error: (OS 33), the process cannot access the file because another process has locked a portion of the file.

This majority often occurs when a backup or AV program strives to save or to analyze the virus file. The solution, assuming that it is one of them, do not use backup directly on the database (or use an agent provided with the program backup or RMAN) or exclude directories from Virus detection database.

  • Installer/Packager of Oracle instance

Hello! I need to create an installer that would create an Oracle instance on the Oracle of the client server. For SQL Server I can use SQL package manager (http://www.red-gate.com/products/sql-development/sql-packager/)

who can create an executable that I can integrate a .msi file.

Is there something available for Oracle?

As background, several times a year the company that I work for CD ships with the latest data. Db schemas change frequently, so we rather not run sql dba cause data population scripts cannot run properly. They tend to perform the data script change scripts before schema. My company gave up after spending more than $50 K on the creation of some of the best material I've seen. Instead, we will create an installer that would take the name of zone Oracle and execute commands of Oracle restore to restore an entire database from a dump.

The packer of Red Gate SQL product works rather well for SQL Server.

What are my options for Oracle?

    Many thanks in advance,

  • Explain the architecture of the ORACLE Instance

I read 100 pages of 2 day DBA. And I printed the OCA review topics.
I have not found any to explain the architecture of the ORACLE Instance

    Watch http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E11882_01/server.112/e10713/toc.htm

It is the Guide of Concept of database Oracle. In part 5 you will find what you are looking for.

  • How to restart the customer Oracle oracle instance

I have a server Oracle 10 g with DEVEL instance on AIX machine. I have an Oracle Client on the Windows machine as well. I want to stop and start the instance of my client DEV using .bat file. Is this possible? Does anyone know how to do it?

    KP >

Well, right now the correct question should be: how to start the database.
I am able to connect as sysdba DEVEL on AIX (as from Windows clients) and stop it but when I try to start it returns this message:

ORA-12505: TNS:listener is not currently of SID given in connect descriptor

but I'm still able to tnsping my client DEVEL...

Display the status of the listener, its content and the tnsnames.ora file entry. Here is how I got connected stopped and started. The process that I follow:
    (1) entry Made in listener.ora file as I said earlier, restarted the listener
    (2) Made in the tnsnames.ora file change
    (3) Connect since the closing of the client and started.

  • Basic question on the client connection to the Fund with several oracle instance

    Oracle 11:

I have just a basic question about how doing listener/customer determine how oracle instance to connect to:

1 tnsnames.ora and listener defines the configuration of the host and the port is that how he comes to know? I'm just trying to understand if the request comes to the listener how listener knows what Oracle instance to route traffic to?

    2. when I do sqlplus / as sysdba how knows what Oracle instance to connect to?

    Look at the differences
