Is it possible to copy my original files with a backup hard drive with re-import them?

I'm doing a copy of external backup everything on a hard drive, I can work from. I saved the backup catalog on a new hard drive and I can copy my originals to the new hard drive outside of lightroom, but I don't know how to get lightroom to be able to work the new copy. What I have to re-import everything? I also tried 'Find missing folder' but then she moves the folder to the new hard drive and I don't have two copies of work.

I use Lightroom4. My original files are stored on an external hard drive. I don't know of anyway to copy files into lightroom.

Thank you

Since then, we discussed backups... I think it's a mistake to use your backups of your photos and use your backup catalog files. In my opinion, when you perform a backup, you should leave here on intact and unused backup disk, for ever and ever, except in the case where your originals get destroyed or damaged somehow.

So, if you really want to use your backups in the way you described - don't. Very bad idea. And if you go ahead and do it anyway, then Yes, you must re-bind the missing files every time you go.

  • Transfer of files to a backup hard drive resets their dates

This is the first time I started to transfer my data to a backup hard drive. I ran into some kind of complication, however. All records to be transferred, whether by copying or cutting, have their dates reset. Their creation dates are listed not is more like when they were created originally, but when they were transferred to the new hard disk. Fortunately, this does not affect the dates of the files inside of them, but this has made the Organization of various files - not to mention the question of being able to check while they were facts of being very problematic.

What is the cause and how can I avoid it? Can I return these dates?

What happens if you zip files and then copy the zip file and unzip it.  The dates change then?  If this isn't the case, you could do it like this.

  • Error message "unable to copy the file"hiberfil", it is used by another person or program." Problem copying content from your PC to external hard drive.

Original title: problem to copy content from your PC to external hard drive.

I use Windows XP 2000 and am trying to restore my pc to factory settings as it is continuously 'stick '. When you try to copy my drive "c" on an external drive I get a message saying "unable to copy the file"hiberfil", it is used by another person or program." Close any program that might be using the file and try again "." What is 'hiberfil' and how do I close it down as I am not aware that I use?

    Concerning

    Pete

The hiberfil.sys will be created every time that you start... If you put in hibernation enabled in your control panel, Power Options and the file is 'open' to think that you can actually choose to Hibernate at any given time.  When you Hibernate XP gives a note of it and will write a hiberfil.sys sometimes important in the c:\ folder so that when XP fires again upwards and returns from hibernation, XP will read the hiberfil.sys file and return to the situation that you were in when you put into hibernation.

I use to be a chronic hibernant because it takes less time to return after hibernation as a cold start.  Sometimes, it can actually be slower that a cold so start your system based on the amount of RAM has.  The more RAM you have, the more your hiberfil.sys will, if sometimes it's faster to move with just a cold start if you Hibernate (26,03 seconds for me).

If hiberfil.sys is giving you a hard time (you would not in any way copy it) disable hibernation in your Power Options and the file will be deleted immediately since it would be is no longer necessary.  That would solve this, but if you are trying to copy the entire C drive, you will have other files to complain after that.

It is certainly possible to make a complete copy of the C drive, if you want, but you will have to initialize on something next to your drive hard if you want to do this so the XP files are not used - then you can copy anything and everything.  You can get some imaging software of disc that will also help you.

It depends on what the problem is you want to solve and what you wand to end up with when you're done (so far, unspecified).

I would work on figure our why your XP is paste and fix it in place.  XP should not be sticky.

    Hi Peter,

Thanks for posting your question in the Microsoft Community.

From your problem description, I understand that you are unable to transfer files from an external drive on another drive. Please let me know if this isn't the problem that you are experiencing.

Before troubleshooting, I have little information on the issue.

    1. Do you receive any error or display message?
    2. Did you recent hardware or modifications to the software on the computer before this problem?

Try the methods and then check after each method:

Method 1: Transfer files from a drive to the location on the desktop or a temporary folder and then try to transfer them to the destination disk.

Note: make sure the free space on the disk in the destination drive.

    Method 2: Run the Fixit:

    http://support.Microsoft.com/mats/windows_file_and_folder_diag/

Method 3: Disconnect your player safely, and restart the computer. And then try to transfer the files.

If the problem persists, post your reply with results and questions above. We are happy to help you further in the advanced troubleshooting steps!

    It will be useful.

  • Is there a possibility of the virus being transferred as well for moving files on an external hard drive?

Original title: Virus/malware/spyware portable with external hard drive?

I run Windows 7 64 bit. My subscription to Norton ran a while back (I know, dumb move) and I want to use MSE instead of pay crazy to renew Norton.  Right now, I'm waiting for Microsoft to difficulty MSE Windows 7 64 bit (there is a problem of file corruption with MSE for 64-bit Windows 7 version that Microsoft is working on fixing)... In the meantime, I suspect strongly I have some viruses and spyware on my laptop and wanted to try a system reset. If I back up my files to an external hard drive will be I might transfer of virus/malware to my computer when I put files on my laptop?

    Hi Cbx_ladyarabica

    Please contact the Microsoft Community.

I like to show you a point for Microsoft Security Essentials. Want to know if there is a possibility of virus being transferred on the external hard drive and back, as well as files. It's pretty simple and I'm here to help you. Thank you for taking the time to read this far.

It is a possibility that the virus may be transferred along with the files provided that they are infected, as well. To be on the safe side, I'd like you try to run a full scan on the computer by using various third-party programs (such as suggested by Andre) to ensure that the computer is virus-free.

NOTE: The use of third-party software, including hardware drivers can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from starting properly. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the use of third-party software can be solved. Software using third party is at your own risk.

Back to us for any issues related to Windows in the future. We will be happy to help you.

  • I use LR 6.5 on an iMAC. Files RAF Fuji originally, I imported from an SD card worked and exported in the form of PSD and then after saving the files on an external hard drive RAF erased from Lightroom. I now want to import some RAF b HD files

I use LR 6.5 on an iMAC. Files RAF Fuji originally, I imported from an SD card worked and exported in the form of PSD and then after saving the files on an external hard drive RAF erased from Lightroom. I now have to import some RAF of the HD files but LR shows them as dazed out and said that they have already been imported when I hover over the thumbnail. I have this problem when importing files in the same HD Canon CR2, and who have been treated exactly the same. Anyone got a clue as to why this is happening? Thanks, Phil

    Hi Phil,

If Lightroom then reads these as duplicate files, it shows that they are already present in your Lightroom Catalog.

You can search by file name and check if the image is present in your library.

    Kind regards

  • How can I copy video to a DVD on my hard drive in Windows XP?

Original title: not a wiz here pc... How can I copy video to a DVD on my hard drive... I have windows XP?
need help please... thank you in advance.

If the DVD is "not" a commercial copy protected DVD...
the following steps may be worth a try:

When you insert the DVD in your DVD player... close
all the windows that can open and then go to... Start /.
Computer... right click the icon for the DVD player
is located in, and then select Explore or open to view the
    Directory of the DVD.

The files you need from the DVD are the. VOB files.
You will find them in the VIDEO_TS folder. Copy them
in a folder on your hard drive. Or you can copy the
    full VIDEO_TS folder.

First... just try to rename one of the. VOB files to
. MPG or. AVI and see if it will matter in Movie Maker.
If import works... drag the file to the timeline and
Economy/publication it to .wmv or .avi format. Then...
Re - import new video from .wmv to for editing.
(Note: in Windows 7 you may be able to import the)
VOB files in Movie Maker just as they are)

(FWIW... you can probably play the files renamed
in Windows Media Player to be sure that VOB
    file to edit)

If you are unable to import the files they need to be converted
another .wmv format would be a good choice.

There are many programs that can do conversions...
The following freeware is an example...:

(FWIW... it's always a good idea to create a system)
Restore point before installing software or updates)

    Format Factory
    http://www.videohelp.com/tools/Format_Factory
    (the 'direct link' is faster)
(the file you want to download is: > FFSetup260.zip<>
    (FWIW... installation..., you can uncheck
('all' boxes on the last screen)

First, you will need to decompress the file or just open the
Drag FFSetup260.exe out of the folder
and drop it on your desktop. To install left click.

Next, after the download and installation of Format
Factory... you can open the program and
left click on the toolbar, the "Option" button and
"Select an output folder to" / apply / OK.
(this is where you find your files after they)
    are converted)

Drag and drop your video clips on the main screen...

Select "all to WMV" / OK...

Click on... Beginning... in the toolbar...

    That should do it...

    Good luck...

  • When you back up my files to a new hard drive, getting the error "destination path too long".

    Hello

Today I was backing up my files on a new hard drive that I bought a week ago, and during the copy, I received the message following 'destination path too long ".
And the file name is actually short "crouch" here is a snap of the image:

    http://imgkeep.com/0ij23kby74dn.html

I don't know what to do!

Original title: destination path too long?

The key factor is not the name of the file itself, but the total length of the file name and the path of the folder.

The help files for the application that you are using could tell you how long the total combination of the file-file may be [some more older can be limited to 255 characters, but I was not able to discover the current constraints].

  • Moving files to PC files to the files of the external hard drive from Lightroom.

I have files duplicated in my external hard drive and my computer.  My computer becomes too full, so I want to delete the duplicates it.  The problem is that I have more pictures in the folder of the computer in the backup folder.  Is there a way for Lightroom copy or move simply no redundant pictures from my computer to my backup hard drive?  I tried select all and moving them, but got an error that they already exist in the backup folder.  I don't want to have to try and look at all the photos in both files to understand those who are redundant.  Help!

The photo to another drive backup can be done via your operating system (copy and paste), but this is a unique single backup; or better still by some third-party utilities that perform automatic and regular backups.

You must also make backups of your catalog file that can be done in Lightroom by activating the backup option in the catalog settings. This will cause Lightroom to make backups of your catalog file at regular intervals that you specify (daily, weekly, etc.) When you exit Lightroom, a catalog backup dialog box will appear and give you the option of where to put the backup catalog file, you must specify that this backcup goes on a different drive than the original catalog file.
