  Very interesting question! In my view, HDMI port is to be used with the HD ready LCD TVs or plasma. Combination of connection HDMI and HD DVD movies, you can really have a HD on your TV picture quality.

  As you know the port is a standard VGA port to connect external displays. The image quality is very good and, in my opinion, you should not use HDMI port for the same. Do you perhaps the best image quality?

  Yes you can, but flash does not add any background image for you. It only generates the HTML file with the script object incorporation. Then, you will need to add the HTML script to add the background. You will also need to set the SWF object as transparent so that it will be "hover" on the HTML file.   for your text box, define backgroundVisible: false & and/or upgrade the opacity to the low enough that you can see through it and place your background image behind the text box. (I belive opacity changes will affect the text as well).
