Is it possible to still update my video card?

Hello, I have a Pavilion dv7 with an ati mobilty radeon HD 5470 gpu.  A few days ago its begun to thorw a bunch of flags and after having checked c, it seems I need to update my video card drivers. Unfortunately my few attempts of their update through AMD/ATI site led faliure bricking near my computer. I need to update the video card, otherwise I'll be stuck with a $1000 + a laptop that is of no use to me.

Hello Abolist.

Try disabling the AMD APP SDK Runtime as follows.

  1. Go to your control panel and select "Uninstall a program" or "programs and features".
  2. Locate and select 'AMD Catalyst Manager.'
  3. Along the top of the list, you should see "Organize", "Uninstall", "Change" and "repair".  Select 'change '.
  4. Follow the instructions until you select "uninstall Manager".
  5. Select custom.
  6. Uncheck the "AMD APP SDK Runtime" and continue to follow the guests.
  7. Finish and restart your computer.
  8. Check if the problem persists and post the result.

I'll keep an eye out for your answer.  Nice day.

  • Possibility to get a new video card and power supply

Hey everyone just curious if someone could lend a hand with some questions I have.

I currently have a HP Pavilion Elite

    Model number: HPE-171f

    OS: Windows 7 64-bit

Recently, I was looking around in my computer and I realized that I only have a 460w power supply. From the beginning, I knew I had to get a new power supply if I wanted to update my video card.

But then I realized that there are a few constraints of size with the case. I was curious if one of the most recent as the GTX 670 Nvidia cards or 660 (when it releases) would fit in this case. With a power supply.

I know it's an older case so with this question, I was wondering if its even possible/chip just to upgrade the card video and PS.

    Thanks for the help

Yes, you can update your map graphics and power for something bigger. The CX500, CX600 Corsair are highly recommended, are favorites of the forum and are known to adapt to most cases of HP. With a length of about 9.5 inches, the graphics card GTX 670 can be tight but feasible in your case... measure along the x 16 PCIe slot and look for potential problems. DC, welcome to the forum.

The computer being 7 years old, I think not a video card would help.  The maximum amount of memory system that will support the motherboard is 1 GB.  It is not enough to run one of the newest games.  In addition, the processor is not capable of those running, either.  I suggest saving your money for a new computer.

  • I have an IBM thinkpad with an ati mobility radeon series display and when I try to play a game says I need to update my video card...

I am totally lost and spent two hours trying to figure this out. I just bought the sims 3 and when I try to play said: device 0 cannot run this title. Your video card does not support at least Shader Model 2. Please update your card.
I tried to update my drivers but to no avail. I have no idea what to do here, can anyone help please? I just want to play this game!

Your video card is basic it is perfect for office 2D work which is what this laptop was designed for. It is not suitable for playing games and video chip does not respect the Sims 3 system requirements. There is nothing you can do about it. This isn't a limitation of software (drivers), but a physical limitation (this video card cannot play this game). MS - MVP - Elephant Boy computers - don't panic!

  • Looking to update my video card without upgrading my power 250 Watt on my Pavillion 6837c

Looking for suggestions as to what would be a good update on the cheap card I recently added 14 GB of RAM so the thing is fast enough, that I would like to just the films to be a little more transparent, any suggestions? Thank you! -josh

    Joshua, welcome to the forum.

Any video card that would work with your power supply (PSU), be much, if any, better than the integrated video.  New middle level cards require at least 350W to 400W power.  Therefore, if you don't want to upgrade the PSU, I recommend staying with the integrated graphics subsystem.  In fact, the problem is to find a card that works.  Manufacturers do not give the requirements of power on their lower level cards.

If you decide to improve the PSU, I like Corsair and OCZ.  That would give you many more choices of cards.  I love EVGA, Sapphire, XFX and PNY in that order.

Note: Remember that your system is not as good as the weakest component.  With the CPU and memory that you have a better map would greatly increase performance.

Everything worked great until I rebooted my computer from a windows update

Note: if my video cards work at startup that they seem to have no problem just randomly when I turn on my computer they crushed

the update of windows seems to be the cause of it and idk what to do. I realize now you should not update the drivers through windows update, but I didn't even know that the update had nothing to do with my drivers, how do I get rid of what the windows update done

    Hello

    This should help you.

Some of them you know already (updating graphics drivers).

Microsoft gives sometimes you updates for the 3rd party hardware: graphics, network cards, etc.

You should only get the latest drivers for them to real hardware manufacturer's website, as Microsoft normally does nor those have the most recent drivers available as Microsoft relies of the 3rd party hardware Manufactuer to provide.

But unfortunately, the only way to know which is the update of the problem is to install them one by one, until you find the 'wrong' for your installation.

You can do a system restore to get back until it has been installed (which is NOT the best way to remove an update) or follow this method:

    'Remove an update'

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/remove-an-update

When you have found the issue of update of the list of updates which is presented > then right click on the update problem > select Hide update > and it will not be available to you once again

"How to hide or show an update of Windows Vista"

    http://www.Vistax64.com/tutorials/72491-Windows-Update.html

Here's how to chanage update settings, if you think it is necessary to:

"Understanding Windows Update and Extras in Windows Vista and Windows 7.

    http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/Windows-Vista-updates-and-extras/

    Or the other of these two update settings will give you the chance to see what you want to install through Windows updates;

Download updates but let me choose whether to install them - if you select this option, Windows will download the updates on your computer, but not install them automatically. If you want to install updates, then you must install them manually. You should only select this option if you have a reason to not install updates automatically. Only advanced users should use this option.

Check for updates but let me choose whether to download and install them - if you select this option, you'll be alerted when there are new updates available for download and install. You can then choose to download and install the updates that you want. This option should really be reserved for people who know exactly which updates they need, or those who have little access to the Internet.

But remember you normally only have problems with hardware 3rd party drivers. Other updates are to improve the Performance and security of your system

    See you soon.

  • Update the video card in Battlefield 3 for XPS 410?

    Hey all,.

I have a question about upgrading the video card in my XPS 410.  I am currently using a nVidia GeForce 9500 GT video card, which has served me well for purposes of casual games.  However, I like to play Battlefield 3, but according to the nVidia website, this video card does not meet the minimum specifications.  So there is another card that I could update?  I am seriously thinking to buy a new PC in the fall, so I don't want to spend too much money on a new map (especially considering that my PC is long in the tooth that is).  In my view, that the XPS 410 has a 375W PSU, which also complicates things.

Any suggestions?  nVidia or Radeon is fine.

    Thank you!

    Scott

You would be a mistake.  Many have used the HD 6770 their Dell 375 Watt power supplies.  The HD 6770 would be a card game much better on the HD especially for BF3 6670.   You will use probably not much more than a total of 250 watts for your system in the game and even less if not.   The recommended minimum of card is the 8800 GT and HD 6670 is probably just equal to it.  However, the HD 6770 exceeds it so I think you'll be much happier.  Here's one that I would consider.  He has a $20 rebate.

  • Everyone updated their video card themselves?

    Hi macmovieman,

It is not possible to upgrade or replace the graphics card because it is welded part of the motherboard.

  • Pavilion A6724C must update the video card, suggestions?

My son wants to be able to play COD on my pc, but the video card from the factory is the way to slow. Can you suggest a replacement card which is decent for the games but not super expensive or require changes to the power supply?  Thanks for any help.

    Hello

There is the version of 512 MB ddr5 on the link below.

    http://www.Newegg.com/product/product.aspx?item=N82E16814130531

There may be differences between the marks.  The main factor that govern what will work in your PC's power supply 300W - you should know the minimum requirement of the power supply of the card that you intend to buy, as anything that requires more than 300W is unlikely to work properly, or not at all.

  • You will need to update the video card in my hp a1240n.

We have an integrated video card, but I need graphis better to play better games. Can I install a geforce 8400 gs?

    Wisterial, welcome to the forum.

Yes, you can upgrade to a PCI (NOT PCI Express 16 x or AGP) 8400 GS.  You have only three PCI slots.  Now for the things to consider.  You should check the power of the power supply unit (PSU).  You can do this by opening the case and by reading the label on.  The 8400 GS I found required a minimum of 300W.  If your PSU is equal or greater to 250W, this one would work.  Most of the manufacturers overstate the power necessary for the performance of their cards.

There are many PCI cards available, but they are not very good for the games.  If you buy one, you should consider switching at least 2 GB of memory, too.  Crucial is a good place to buy it.

  • Just bought a new PC. Try to update its video card

I just bought my HP ENVY from best buy. (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/HP+-+ENVY+Desktop+-+10GB+Memory+-+1.5TB+Hard+Drive/7479285.p?id=12188471...

and im trying to upgrade the video card. I am afraid that the motherboard has only PCI Express x 1 slots. I can only put PCI Express x 1 video card in it? The specs of the PC only say available PCI slots, but the current video card slot is not mentioned. Is there anyway I can find out what the current video card slot? Thanks advance!

    Your link with Best Buy is not valid. Please check that this Best Buy link and this link desktop HP ENVY h8-1534 refer you the computer you bought. If they are correct, this model supports;

    A PCI Express x 16 (Gen 2.0)
Three PCI Express x 1 (Gen 2.0) connectors
A PCI Express mini card (for plug-in software component half-length cards) with USB connector

and already a discreet Eyefinity of AMD Radeon HD 7570 DDR3 2 GB graphics card installed at the factory.
