Is it safe to upgrade to El Capitan
I have a computer with current books with Yosemite. I read about the problems with El Capitan. Should I upgrade or will I find my files do not work?
Hello
As long as you have a Time Machine backup or another backup system enabled you do not risk anything by upgrade to El Capitan. As long as the installation process goes well, you will always be able to access your books. If you use more specific written apps, you can ensure that they are compatible with El Capitan to https://roaringapps.com rest
Happy update

Safe to upgrade to El Capitan Yosemite?
It's confusing. I read a lot of discussion. I guess I still need help from you guys.
Attached is my Etrecheck report. No alarming red in there. My question: is it safe to upgrade to El Capitan? I'll make a Time Machine backup first, of course. What is more important to do? Help, please.

First of all, remember that's where people go when they are in trouble. Problems so is all you will see here, even though the update was 99.99% bulletproof, you would see only people with problems here.
That said - anecdotal - it seems that there are a few key questions that keep popping up. Upgrade/validation of the library of e-mail seems to be one of them for a number of people, for example. John Gruber has even mentioned problems with the last update of El Cap for example (associated with mail again), and is not a common thing.
http://DARINGFIREBALL.NET/linked/2015/12/07/low-hanging-fruit
So, if I were to update today, I would like to, as you say, make absolutely sure that I backed up EVERYTHING, including all your .mbox mailboxes mailbox and your e-mail account configuration/login information. This way everything that happens that you have options.
Good luck!

It is "safe" now upgrade to El Capitan?
I'm still on 10.10.5... can I safely move to 10.11? Or I'll be sorry?
I have been using first with 10.11 for months with little or no question. But as for software updates, mileage will still vary. For a user, an update of the OS will be difficulty 2 problems and cause a new 1. On the other hand, it may do just the opposite. It also depends on other variables such as your graphics card, card and what features you use. I don't think one person can never finally say "Yes, it's ok" or "no, it's not ok" to update. Just have a backup of everything (practice of safety), don't do it if you are in the middle of a big project and there is a better chance that you will be ok!

I'm running on snow leopard and upgrade to el capitan. If I just update without backup (because I have no external HARD disk) data will generally be safe / normal after all as we updated iOS iPhone via OTA or need to recover the data again whenever we have updated to Mac OS?
If all goes to plan, your data will be safe. At times things go bad for a backup is indispensable if you value your data.
Ciao.

After that upgrade to El Capitan about this Mac does not work"
After the upgrade to El Capitan by clicking on about this Mac, nothing happens and by double clicking on System profiler I get the error message from the Application "System information" cannot be opened. I ran disk utility, tried in safe mode and as a guest and all user are the same.
It is a late 2008 MacBook. It's on 10.5.8. I did a clean install of 10.6.3 with upgrades to 10.6.8 to give birth to El Capitan. According to me, that he was working at that time. Then, I migrated the user of a backup image of the 10.5.8 account. Who could have when it stopped, but I'm not sure.

Hello mrtrytofixit,
Thank you for reaching out to the Community Support from Apple. I know how it is important to be able to rely on public services provides your Mac and I want to help you get things working again. With troubleshooting, you have already done, it seems that it is a systemic problem.
From there, what I recommend is reinstall OS X El Capitan using OS X Recovery on your Mac. It should not remove or erasure of your data, but it is recommended that you make backup before you do incase of an emergency.
These articles will guide you through the backup and reinstallation:

I have macbook pro late 2009. I started to upgrade to El Capitan 2 days ago. Downloaded, it stalled during installation. It has frozen about 95% installation and remained so for 2 days. Help, please.
Try to Safe Mode Setup:
https://support.Apple.com/en-us/HT201262
Start safe mode and see if the problem persists:
Restart now ' shift '.
(Wait to take more time to start in this way because it runs a check of directory first. Also give it some time after the start because he runs maintenance routines at the beginning.)

After the upgrade to El Capitan 10.11.5 shift, Alt and command of my keyboard keys started to act arbitrarily, they are suspended and do not work properly (I already tried several keyboards and is not Firefox or Chrome). This behavior is exacerbated in Illustrator CC, but also affect all programs and even my office. It drives me crazy, does anyone know how I can fix this problem?
Mi IMac is a 27-inch, late 2013, 3.4 GHz Intel Core i5, and use a Wacom Intuos Pro.
Could possibly be interfering with the entry Wacom drivers.
Start safe mode and see if there are still have the problem there. Safe mode is slow and some things do not work, but it prevents some third-party boot loading software. If your keyboard works properly in Mode without fail, this would imply that some third-party software is causing the problem. If so, check the updates.
It also takes more time to start because the BONE is clean some system caches that can also help.

I have an IMAC mid-2010 and tried to upgrade to el capitan of lion [software Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5 (11G63b)] but I get this message: INSTALL_ERROR_DISTRIBUTION_SIGNED_BY_APPLE
How to solve this. I think that's what keeps me to sync my iPhone 6 and IPAD PRO I got the year last, and 1 month ago, respectively, with the iMac. I tried to download iTunes separately, but it does not work. Memory is 1 t, processor 3.2 GHz Intel Core i3. Memory DDR3 at 1333 MHz 12 GB
Make sure your time and date is correct. If this is not the case, correct it and try the install again.
Remove anti-virus, anti-malware or module security or performance or system cleanup tools according to the instructions of the respective providers. Try again.
If this fails, restart the iMac by Safe Mode like which clears and regenerates the system puts in cache, among other details, reboot normally and see if the Mac App Store download starts working. Then re-download the installer of El Capitan, and then try again.
If all else fails, please after the release of Etrecheck as a starting point - which will indicate the specific hardware configuration nd can show if there is something wonky openly what is installed.

My mac froze just (since the upgrade to El Capitan) still today while on the internet. Has written on this subject before and submitted to the reading of the Console application, but there was no response.

Try each of them in order. A test to see if the computer works properly:
- Reset the PRAM
- Reset the controller (SMC) system management
- Start the computer in Safe Mode, and then restart normally. It's slower than a standard home.
- Repair the disk by booting to the recovery HD immediately after the chime press keys control and R that the Utility Menu appears. Choose disk utility and click on the button continue. Select the withdrawal (usually Macintosh HD) volume entry of the list to one side. Click first aid button in the toolbar. Hold the button brings up. Disk utility and return in the Utility Menu. Restart the computer from the Apple Menu.
- Reinstall OS X by booting from the Recovery HD using the command and R keys. When the Utility Menu appears, select reinstall OS X and then click continue.
- Download and install updated Combo OS X El Capitan 10.11.4.

Crash when upgrading to El Capitan
My brother has a 2009 MacBook Pro with Snow Leopard running he'd like to upgrade to El Capitan.
He began by upgrading to the latest version of Snow Leopard then went to the App Store, logged into his account and started the upgrade. The download went as planned but it got an error message. He saved the Setup log. It is approximately 1.2 MB. Not sure as what to do, but which seems to me to be a relevant article of it, I copied below.
Any advice would be appreciated!
Thank you!!

Try a reboot.
Make a backup using Time Machine or a cloning program, to ensure that data files can be recovered. Two backups are better than one.
Try to set up another admin user account to see if the same problem persists. If back to my Mac is enabled in system preferences, the guest account will not work. The intention is to see if it is specific to an account or a system wide problem. This account can be deleted later.
Isolate a problem by using a different user account
If the problem is still there, try to start safe mode using your usual account. Disconnect all devices except those necessary for the test. Shut down the computer and then put it up after a 10 second wait. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the SHIFT key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear. Startup is considerably slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a check for directory and disables all start-up and connection, among other things. When you restart normally, the initial restart may be slower than normal. If the system is operating normally, there may be 3rd party applications that pose a problem. Try to delete/disable the third-party applications after a reboot using the UN-Installer. For each disable/remove, you need to restart if you do them all at once.

ScanDisk USB Flash Drive problem after upgrade to El Capitan
After the upgrade to El Capitan, I can't access the vault secure on my USB Cruzer facet flash drive. I have Plug and display files as usual but when I try to open the safe, I get the message ' Scan Disk Secure Access V 2.0 requires San Disk USB Flash Drive. Please insert one. »
The Flash Player has worked fine before the upgrade to El Capitan and I can still use the files outside of the secure vault but, basically, I cannot now access the secure vault. I'd appreciate any thoughts on how this can be resolved. I only am not an expert so please, keep it pretty simple.
Sounds like a problem of compatibility with the Secure Access software and the OS X El Capitan of SanDisk. Try download and install the latest version of Secure Access of SanDisk.
It seems also be other users having the same problem, you may get better assistance with this through SanDisk. Someone else said that upgrading to the latest version of Secure Access has solved the problem.

Upgrade to el capitan is the way course?
MY last update to yosemite was a total puzzle. I lost my bootcamp partition and was able to recover with the help of solitaire. Im a little hesitant to upgrade to el capitan, I really want to repeat the same steps. Is it possible to make sure I update in a safe way? Thanks for any advice.
If we did the recovery correctly and properly, you should have no problem with the upgrade. I still recommend a good backup of OS X and Windows (separate readers) if possible. Also, please create a Windows system restore point.
If you do not really need features to El Capitan, I'd say staying on Yosemite, if it is stable and functional.

I can't sign in iMessage since upgrading to El Capitan - Suggestions?
I can't sign in iMessage (Macbook Pro, early 2011) after upgrade to El Capitan 10.11.1 OS x 10.8.5. I have reset the passwords for my two Apple ID, out of the iCloud, signed and still cannot connect in iMessage. Diagnosis: "year error occurred during authentication. All other applications (and machines, see below) with iCloud connections & shared data work without problems. Machine also crossed several reboots at least two resets of LANDAU. Any suggestions for next steps?
The same update of the iCloud OS X 10.8.5 log 10.11.1 and subsequent out / in the sequence was repeated on my other Macbook Pro (mid-2012). iMessage balls in and functions properly in this regard.
My iPhone 6 + wife 5s and iPad Mini 1st generation (all with the same Apple ID & iOS 9.1), either have no problem with iMessage. Two Macbook pros are running 16 GB of RAM drives, backup of OWC data with the 480 GB SSD boot in original position of HD floppies and mechanical in the optical Bay. All devices are on the same time zone time, selected auto (CST).
Updated - repair of Ran in Keychain Access. Ran disk first aid utility. Restart in Mode safe and by logging in to my account resulted in functional iMessage. After restarting mode Normal iMessage remained functional. A VICTORY.
