is no longer administrator

Recently, I suspect more complete a large number of windows updates (Note: settings are to download and update automatically, my account is no longer administrator on my laptop.) It's also the only account on the laptop, so I can't use another account or add a new account because I'm no longer administrator.

Previously I was not asked to provide a user name and password for the execution of things or to have programs make adjustments on the laptop, just a confirmation that it was OK. But for some time, I need to type a user name and password. And my credentials are not accepted due to insufficient privileges. I have not changed anything recently and also did not install new programs.

The laptop runs on Windows 7 Professional.

At the time that Microsoft Security Essentials is checked, but nothing found so far and it will not find anything I think.

Can someone help with this and tell me how I can be admin?

Forest, thanks for the help so far.

The robin.plug account is a domain account, but the laptop has not been connected to the domain for a long time.

As noted above, robin.plug is the account always use on the laptop and I never needed to provide credentials to run or install programs before. So, it was (is) the account used for all the things on the laptop. No idea what could have happened to this account, which in fact is more an administrator?

The other account has never been used after the date mentioned in the newspaper, I even forgot it until it appeared in the newspaper.

It seems that you run your machine so high-risk. You kept by using a domain account, based on the credentials cached, even if the machine has long been out of the field. You has maintained also not your one and only local, which means that you can not use it.

I suspect that the credentials cached in the expired domain account finally. Here are your options:

  • Perform a system restore to configure Windows to a point before your problems began. In view of the many recent updates, it's unlikely to work, but it's worth a try.
  • Take the machine to where it comes from and ask the domain administrator to fix it. He can do.
  • Ask the domain administrator for the password for the local administrator account. He'll know what it is. This will not work unless the account is active. The following command console will tell you:
    NET user administrator
  • Take the machine to your friendly computer technician fixed it.

When you're done, plan ahead a little and create, test and document a spare, even admin account that you have a spare House key. This will save you a lot of trouble.

  • I myself put in place as long as the administrator and am the only user, but my wife's name is still on display in the user records

    original title: problem strange user

Hello people out there... My problem is that I got on the computer of my wife which is a HP Pavilion with Vista home Premium. I myself put in place as long as the administrator and am the only user... However my wife's name still shows under the user folders, i.e. 'C:\User\jenny '. I went to the sections of the user to delete, but it does not appear, it shows me only... also when I try to delete the folder of the user, the delete option wonder if I want to delete my account... My folder is located on the right of the Start button with more programs from the main menu, but my wife is located under the main C: drive I obviously did something wrong when I set up my user account, but I have no idea... so if anyone of you people can help me, I would be very grateful... Thank you.

If you change the name of an account, the name of the associated in C:\Users folder does not change. As far as I know, there is no way to change this.

  • Do I still need to log as long as administrator to install something for everyone?

With Windows XP and even Windows 2003 server in some situations (especially on workgroup configurations), I found that by using the function 'run as...' "to try to install a program sometimes caused problems where it will settle only for the account I was logged as, one facility for the admin user that I used 'run as' credentials for, or worse, split the two.

So, I made a point always connect as long as administrator when a facility, unless I knew it was a fairly simple program as one who does not need installation, only to be left in a place accessible to the public as \program files\progname and a shortcut created in the "all users" folder

Is this still the case with Windows 7, or 'run as' work generally better? I just had to install something while doing a job on my account limited standard and found a great disadvantage of having to close the session because I was doing something else in the background and also had to close several things that I had opened.

I guess I could have used 'switch user', but I've learned to close all open applications when you do an installation with Windows 95, although it is cross-platform advice since I heard even earlier on the Apple II and the Macs. I know that this was the case with Windows 3.X, but it wasn't really a problem with MS-DOS because you couldn't generally longer run a program (TSRs excluded).

Some habits have life hard, and I wonder if the need to stop doing what I do, log off and log in as admin to update or install is a habit which is obsolete?

Your practices are still today pretty sound advice. He can certainly make facilities more managed to do what you describe and disconnect all users.

Regarding installation for everyone, rise when running as an administrator in Windows 7 that works much better, but the experience always depends on the program.  When you install some programs, you could get an installation option for 'just me' or 'all users '. But some setup routines give this possibility and just default to the current user (Chrome does this, or at least used to... but it does not require admin rights because it installed in the directory of the user instead of program files, which is great because it allows non-admins 'install').

Really because it boils down to only the software and how the installer has been setup, you're probably better to just do what you did in most of the cases. But her run as that is certainly more reliable these days.

  • Is no longer an administrator

Hello my name is Malcolm and I have a question? on my computer, I was the Admin, and I had put in place a standard for my sons account so it can access the internet under his name, but when I am logged into my account the next day, I discovered, that I was more an administrator, so now I have two accounts I and my sons who are standard user accounts , then theres A guest account, and then finally theres to administrator accounts those called HomeGroupUser$ and the other is called UpdatusUser. and now I can't even delete files on my computer or even the thanks for a system restore.

    Here you go:

    1. Keep, pressing F8 during startup.
    2. Boot repair.
    3. Use system restore to set Windows to a point before you have done everything that your done.
    4. Plan ahead a little and create, test, and document an alternative admin account, even though you have a spare House key. This will save you a lot of trouble.

Maybe some comments uninvited made a change, but if that's the case I don't know how to fix it.

    Hello Don,

You have discovered a problem with Windows 7. To resolve this problem, I recommend a program called FileMenu Tools. You can download the portable freeware from here: http://www.softpedia.com/get/PORTABLE-SOFTWARE/System/System-Enhancements/FileMenu-Tools-Portable.shtml .

After having downloaded and installed the program, you will notice that, by default, each option is checked. I would be much more selective on this subject, otherwise your context menu will be a full page long! When the main window opens, you will see a list on the right side of all the elements that can be added to the context menu. Start weeding through the list and every one to take away, you don't need the United Nationsby checking the box.

Once you have completed your selection (de-selections) make sure that you click the green check mark in the row of icons at the top of the left window of the interface to 'Apply' of your choice. The program can do much more, but that answers your specific question. I am told that the program has a good help file, so try here if you are interested.

Let me know if this solves the problem for you.

    Kind regards

  • IMAP proxy auth - logs as long as administrator if the user is absent

While the synchronization of the accounts from the old server to OCUCS with imapsync script, I found today that when using IMAP proxy auth (with installation of OUCS 7u2 "vanilla") and specifying a wrong user name (unknown to OCUCS), the absence of the user set IMAP server, but imapsync continues to account for the proxy-admin user Sync messages.

In my view, this means that the default of the proxy connection as user not valid succeeds always a proxy-user connection. (Or imapsync again this connection and that's the problem - I'll try this possibility of research too).

If the problem is known to be one of e-mail server, all toggle to disable these connections as the proxy user and return a failure (absence of user account, incompatibility of word password, whatever)?

When you say "proxy auth", you mean identifying you as the user admin and then using the "proxyauth' mail server owner command to switch to the other user?
Or are you talking about using the plain SASL authentication and sending the

For an example of the former, see MOS knowledge article Doc ID 1387203.1.
For an example of the latter, see MOS Doc ID 1012047.1.

If you do the first, it makes sense. You are logged on as an administrator and then tried proxyauth to another user, but it failed, so you're always connected as administrator.

If you do the latter, I expect this connection failure. So if this is the case, please open a case of pension so we can report a bug.

  • Deleted administrator but still removing?

    Gooday,

Bought 2nd hand iMac and deleted previous administrator but now get a screen I can't close that, when I click on it -: preferences of the user groups is to remove the name of the user account - and saving the home directory on a disk Image.

Can someone please advise what I did problem and how do I get rid of this screen.

    See you soon,.

    Thomas J.

Looks like he need wait for the task to complete. If the old user has had a lot of data it may take a long time to save the disk image, especially if you're low disk space. Once she is in competition, you can delete the disk image if you no longer need that data users.

It seems that you have chosen the wrong option, perhaps you should have agreed to remove the data from the home folder instead?

I suspect that you will have to just wait, after back if it seems that the task is at a standstill, but patience is often the best way to deal with problems of this kind.

  • After you turn off the root of the directory utility user, I went back to the main screen and all other user accounts showed is no longer at the start, as they were before you enable the root user.  Help.  Please, I beg you.

I have activated the user 'root '.  It was an attempt (for the sake of granddaughter age) to check its history since I am the administrator.  Realizing that this method was much more complicated than what I am capable of managing, I returned the utility program directory and disabled the user 'root '.  I thought that everything was ok, as I did not made anything while connected as user 'root '.  Instead, restart the computer, all users, including myself were no longer at the start.  The only point was a blank user name and password.  No picture.  No guest.  No user.  How to return those and I did something to cause this?

Else you being logged in as root?

Activation and deactivation, then root should not have caused that.

Also, having allowed root is one of the ways you get a login screen showing only the name and the password.

You should be able to type in your user name and password to connect.

One time connected, check users & groups system prefs, Connection Options and make sure he's on the list of users. You will have to click on the padlock at the bottom to make changes.
