Is there a problem with Adobe Reader DC using the command line to open a file?

Hello

I am a developer and we use Adobe Reader to view our PDF help files in our application.  For years, we used WinExec() to open Adobe Reader, by specifying the file to open on the command line and it has been working perfectly.  In other words, upward until our users began to load Adobe Acrobat Reader DC.  Despite this work very well when you type a command using CMD.exe, it simply does not help WinExec() from another application programmatically.  Also, I modified the code to try using CreateProcess() or ShellExecute() and these functions do not work either.

It may have to do with the fact that there is a switch or a parameter now within the DC, but I don't know what it is, or why it happens.  If anyone can shed some light on this it would be much appreciated because it severely hampers our latest version of the software.

Kind regards

Leigh.

A common cause is not to put quotes on the command line, so instead of

"c:\program files...\acrord32.exe" "c:\documents and settings\...my file.pdf.

You write

"c:\program files...\acrord32.exe" c:\documents and settings\...my file.PDF

This has always been bad, but older versions it would accept anyway. (It was a recent change but not in DC).

I would recommend using ShellExecute instead of the command line, however. That simulates a double-click and executes everything the user has created for PDFs (perhaps Reader, Acrobat maybe, maybe something else).

    Hey, Katalin.

Open Adobe Acrobat Reader DC, go to the Help menu and repair the installation.

If it does not solve the problem, you can try to uninstall Acrobat Reader DC & reinstall it using this link Adobe - Adobe Acrobat Reader DC Distribution.

Let me know if the problem persists.

It seems that something has been added in the folder on the drive. I would recommend http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/acrobatcleaner.htmluninstalling the program, running, removing any left over parts of the record player (this could be the problem), reboot and reinstall. If all goes well, that solved the problem. Future questions about the player, you should consider asking in the forum of reader, is not.

  • Problems with Adobe Reader and Flash Player

I have IE 9 on Vista SP 2 that I was using the latest versions of Adobe Reader X (10.1.8) and 64-bit Flash Player.  When I try to open a file off of websites, I get a message that I need to download Adobe Reader or Adobe Flash Player.  I checked using the tools from the Adobe site, and both are installed correctly.  I can also open Adobe Reader and Flash files that I have stored on the computer.  It is a new problem on the two Adobe products in the past week.  Ironically, I have four computers with four different versions of operating system and IE.  10 IE with Windows 7 is also not identification Reader or Flash.  I also ran scans of complete system with Norton 360 and Power Eraser and found no problem.  I can't find a solution to these problems and the Adobe site has 'High Volume' so I don't know if I could even get help through Adobe directly.  It is the first time ever I have had problems with any Adobe application and use the Internet for literally his first days.  Any help would be appreciated.  I can be reached at [email address removed] although I can be gone for an hour later today.  Thanks in advance.

    Regarding Flash Player, see

About Adobe Reader, make sure you run IE10 / IE11 in 32-bit mode.

  • Installed Adobe Reader XL successfully, but it does NOT open PDF files

I installed Adobe Reader on a new computer (installed and uninstalled several times today) However, whenever I install it, I get the same results. When I open Adobe Reader, it opens with a gray screen, then closes. Regardless if I click a PDF file of the file or open it an icon, it's always the same result. I can open these files with Adobe Reader version 9 (on another computer). I am running Windows 7.

How can I get a copy of Adobe 9 to try it?

Try this: use Windows Explorer and navigate to C:\Program Files (x 86) \Adobe\Reader 11.0\Reader, and then double-click Eula.exe and accept the license agreement.

If you want to return to Reader 9.x, uninstall the XI player and download the installer from http://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/

See reply Palcouk and even better, uninstall Adobe Reader and
Instead, download and install Foxit Reader to
    http://www.foxitsoftware.com/Secure_PDF_Reader/ It's also free, and
in my opinion, it is much better than Adobe Reader.
