Is there a way to set 'Google by name' as the default search engine? I tried to change keyword. URL, but still it does not work.

I changed (had to add the string so perhaps the preference has changed?) keyword. URL to http://www.google.com/search?ie=UTF-8 & sourceid = navclient & gfns = 1 & q =, but when I try to enter 'youtube', he always tries to load http://youtube/, not http://youtube.com. Whereas, on my office firefox entering youtube would take me on youtube.

Is it possible to get this working?

Note that keyword. URL is no longer used in Firefox 22, so you can't use this to set the search engine used by the address bar. We now use the search provider selected in the search bar.

  • Remove all of the default search engine but google for all users?

    I work for a school district that uses web filtering out both in network. We were running through a situation where our students are able to move from Google to Yahoo search engines to see inappropriate material. We have worked with our provider of web filtering outside to prevent that from happening, but so far no resolution of the problem. As I'm about to about 600 computers images for fall next, staff, admins, and especially Parents (I'm sure) would be as is not the case.

    My question is this. Is it possible to change search preferences in the application Firefox so that all students can use to search is Google? I can do the application itself, or is this another case where the settings are all stored in the profile users?

  • Is there a phone rep who can help me get my profile on my new computer? I think I did OK for the tutorial, but now it does not work

    I had to buy a new computer as my last one had problems. I backed up what I think is all of my files on an external hard drive and moved them to the new computer but Thunderbird does not open. So I re downloaded Thunderbird and followed the tutorial on copying and pasting the old profile in the profile folder and now Thunderbrid (I think) will not open.

    Thunderbird profile cannot be loaded. It may be missing or inaccessible.

    So I put everything in the trash and re downloaded the program, and I still get the same error (I however wouldn't be the case that I was starting from scratch).

    In a little over my head. Any help?

    • Tools > Addons or Menu icon > Addons
    • Click the gear icon and select "install the addon from file".
    • Find the downloaded as file and click 'open '.
    • You may have to restart Thunderbird.

    To import an mbox file (all messages are stored in Thunderbird mbox files)
    Right click on the email account
    Select: ImportExporttools > import a mbox file
    Select: directly import one or more mbox files
    Search for the file and click 'open '.

    You can restore the change in Google Yahoo search engine in the Firefox 34.0.5 by enabling / disabling browser.search.isUS to false.
    Note that only 34.0.5 replaces the default search by Yahoo! engine.

    PS while you make changes to the configuration: automatic, be sure to copy the values that you are editing in a Word Pad document for later retrieval.     I'm fairly certain that Google has always been my default search engine when you search using the address bar, but it has been switched to Yahoo Search.

    I tried to follow the suggestion to open the box to "Manage search engines" and clicking on the button "Restore default settings", but the button is grey and inactive. I then installed the SearchReset 0.2 Add on, which had another solution found in the recommended Firefox Help. This changed my homepage on the default setting and deleted Yahoo as search engine when you use the address bar (even if the research is now not possible at all here), but it has not reset the search somehow bar, and Google and Wikipedia are not always listed as a choice.     All of a sudden all my search engines by default FireFox search missing. Sweet Im has been replaced... The fix for me was quite simply after a search for hours for many who did not.

    I went to C: program Files\MozillaFirefox... I noticed there are two folders that says SearchPlugins, which was empty, and Searchplugins (2) which contains all of the default values, Google, Yahoo etc. I copied these Searchplugins (2) of and stuck looking for Plugins and the problem resolved.

    You can check if you have the XML files including Google's default search engine in the browser\searchplugins file in the Firefox program folder.

    If this isn't the case, then you need to reinstall Firefox.

    Try to delete the file search.json and possible search - metadata.json and search.sqlite files in the profile folder of Firefox to reset the default search engines.

    You can use this button to go to the Firefox profile folder currently in use:

    Firefox will rebuild the file search.json from the default search engines in the folder "browser\searchplugins" in the Firefox program folder and the searchplugins folder in the Firefox profile folder.

    I bought this laptop from a friend (have receipt) who sell it to me because the screen was cracked and spidered all out when you the activated. And everywhere he went to ask to get the screen fixed it is very expensive ($250 - $350) and he said that it would be just a newer laptop. So he sold me this which is a model Probook of HP4420s XT940UT #ABA. About a week after I bought this Probook friend who sold it to died me suddenly. It was sudden and terrible. Some time later, I had the time of the purchase of the LCD for this model, replace it myself (was very easy actually) and booted up the laptop with a new installation of Windows 7 Professional 64-bit Edition. After installing all my software and using the laptop for a while now, I wanted to get into the Bios that I've never done. So when I started the laptop, click ESC, then F10 to enter the BIOS, there were two places to enter a password is different then all Dell I've ever owned. One was mine I guees I put in place using HP protect tools and the other says BIOS/administrator. Well I can do most of the changes with the one I put in place with my password but my password does not work, nor can I get in some very significant changes that I wanted to do using Bios/administrator, as kindling the LoJack, namely the blocking of the hard drive etc. , turning on turbo boost, fan, etc. Well, since the person I bought is no longer with us, there is no one to turn to the answer to this question of administrator/BIOS password / problem.  I tried to take battery Rtype and restore that way, didn't work. Several times, I called HP and they sent me to a BIOS page to download the same BIOS, I have already, would not let me install it. When I bring up the command prompt and do not put anything in BiosConfigureUtility.exe happens, said just a wrong command. When I try to enter the BIOS through the C: file in the files of the SSM, I reach the BiosConfigUtility.exe file, click on it to open it and it just flashes a way small order page to fast to read what it says. I would like to have complete control over my laptop thinking I have a lot of time and money invested in it now.     Sorry to hear about your friend and your problem.  The BIOS password cannot be reset without the help of HP.  They will need some information from your PC and increase your case.  I recommend you give them a call.

I save my changes and when I close and reopen the document it's back to Courier 11 and the spacing is all off. I create documents for customers who need very specific settings (including a 10 - PT font.) to copy and paste resumes to online applications. Once I have send the plain text for them, they, also, versions I can save these specific parameters. It's extremely frustrating; in XP and Vista, I was able to save 10-PT policy documents. I don't see why this was changed. Any suggestions? Anyone at MS have the power to solve this problem?

    I created a document called a new Doc - highlighted space vacuum-made my the font changes and size and saved.  So when I want a document with my size settings and the police, I opened my new Doc.  Make sure that when you save it you rename this new Doc remains empty.  I created a shortcut on the desktop and open the new Doc instead of WordPad.   I guess you can do your employees.  I hope this helps.

    We do have an option to set a generic reminder under choice of account in the accounts of the company and can be set by going to the tab account-> account settings-> send parameters and set reminders.
