Is upgrading to Windows 7 for Windows XP

I want to put Windows 7 on my Windows XP desktop.  I have Windows 7 on my laptop and need to work together on a network.  I read a lot of comments saying that Windows7 Upgrade would be a good choice.  Is this true?  I don't want to put all that money into something that will not work.  Thank you very much!

It is the least expensive option and in the end, the same than buying the full retail copy in-away also the end result.  It will take a "clean install" - which means that you will need to install all the applications you have and use on your computer Windows XP COSTS when you use the DVD to upgrade to Windows 7 to make the "upgrade".

Personally, if you think you keep (at the moment) the long Windows XP desktop (by replacing the hardware, etc.) - I want to buy the retail version of Windows 7 so you could transfer it to another machine when you get rid of the old.  It's just me if.

  • Legitimate request for a free upgrade to Windows 7

I am new to this forum and am revolted by the attitude of the staff of the Toshiba customer support to my legitimate request for a free upgrade to windows 7, here's an email I wrote in which I would appreciate your comments on:

    To the right.

I am writing to express my dissatisfaction with your response to my legitimate request for a free upgrade to Windows 7 see I recently spent more than £1,000 of one of your products.

After having several problems with the Vista operating system, I telephoned your customer on December 4 and had a conversation with an employee who could not satisfy me as to why my machine was not entitled to an update free to Windows 7, as mentioned on your web site.

He offered to take me up to a supervisor I agreed and that was connected to a female member of staff who tried to explain that my model did not appear in the "promotion". I couldn't sense in explaining, in the context of facts that my machine was of the same age and from the same family as those seen offer "promotion."

This employee was still unable to respond or understand my question and said that it is not technical interested so I asked him to put me through to his supervisor and after 10 minutes on the line, I need to speak to Alistair Cook.

Mr. Cook explained 'promotion' for me, but could not explain why my model was not an option, so he said he'd call at the time where he discovered why. What he has made some time after and repeated her account earlier with no clarity. He said he would do more research on the issue and send me the results.

This contacting your customer support Office took a total of 48 minutes on the phone.

Vista is of all intentions, a failure, a fact that you accept your offer of free updates to your customers, so why discriminate against some consumers and not others.

I am a user of long-standing computers Toshiba, the Qosmio is my third laptop and I have always been satisfied customer support, not that it was greatly needed. So, I ask again that do you the right thing and give me my eligibility based on principles.

    Yours sincerely.

    Hi mate

    Very interesting point of view.
But the fact is that not all cell phones from Toshiba are checked for an upgrade to Windows 7.
    Why?

Well, I checked Toshiba European page
    http://EU.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com-> Windows 7 upgrade

and there I was able to find a list of FAQS.

One of the FAQ provides this info:

_What requirements I must meet to participate in the program of upgrade? _

+ To participate in the upgrade program, you must meet the three following criteria: +.
    + 1. You purchased your Toshiba computer between June 26, 2009 and January 31, 2010. +
+ 2. Your Toshiba computer is one of the series of model to check on the Toshiba page. +
+ 3. With your Toshiba computer, you bought an operating system Windows Vista Home Premium Edition, Windows Vista® professional or Windows Vista® Ultimate Edition. +

It seems that several criteria must be met in order to participate in the Windows 7 upgrade program.

  • Solution for Webcam sleep & back problems after the upgrade to Windows 7

Just thought I'd share the solution I recently found a problem I've had since a Satellite Pro A200 GE 26 Q of the upgrade from Vista to Windows 7.

I installed the software webcam for windows 7 on the toshiba site and built-in Chicony camera would work very well after a reboot, but if the computer is in sleep for a long enough period, the unit would stay asleep when the computer woke up and wouldn't work at all, unless the computer has fully restarted.

The solution lies in a change in the registry to force the computer to update the webcam USB controller is attached, after the release of sleep. It was apparently the default for Vista when it was released, but was changed in Vista SP1 and Windows 7. Designed for Vista original material which did not have its drivers/registry updated entries could therefore be subject to a failure because of changes to the default settings through the updates of windows. Toshiba, it seems, do not think that this issue then of the extinction of the registry fix for Win7 upgrades for the satellite Pro A200. Therefore fix manually.

The article where the solution is here: [http://support.microsoft.com/kb/928631]

You do NOT have the file of the fix, you must only make the change to the registry described later.

You need turn on the camera while you do the following to make sure that it appears in Device Manager correctly.

Step 1: Determine the specific USB host controller

    # Click on * early *, enter devmgmt.msc #the * search * box, then click on * devmgmt.msc* in the * list of programs.
    # The * view * menu, click on * devices of * connection *.
    # Expand the processor node. For example, expand * ACPI * Multiprocessor PC *. (In my case, * ACPI x 86 based PC) *.
    # Extend * system compatible ACPI Microsoft *.
    # Extend * PCI Bus *. Several USB host controllers will be listed.
    # Expand each USB host controller node, and then expand successive subnodes until you find the name of the device that is failing. For example, the device entry might look like the following: ACPI Multiprocessor PC\Microsoft ACPI-Compliant System\PCI Bus\Intel (R) \ICH8 family USB Universal Host Controller - drive root Hub\fingerprint 2830\USB * (Note: for me, I found the webcam to ACPI x 86 PC\Microsoft ACPI-Compliant System\PCI Bus\Intel (R) \ICH8 family USB2 Enhanced Host Controller - 283A\USB Root Hub + USB Composite Device\Chicony USB 2.0 Camera-based) *.
    # When you have located the device, right click on the associated and then USB host controller click on * properties *. In the example that is listed in step 6 you would right-click * Intel(r) ICH8 Family USB Universal Host Controller-* 2830, then click on * properties *. (* Again, for me it was different - ICH8 Family USB2 Enhanced Host Controller - 283 a *).
    # Click on the * details * tab.
    # Select * pilot key * in the list. The driver key will look like the following. Note the last four digits of this driver key. {36fc9e60-c465-11cf-8056-444553540000} \0002 * (on my system it's: (36fc9e60-c465-11cf-8056-444553540000) \0005*).

Step 2: Add the ForceHCResetOnResume registry value for the USB host controller

    # Click on * early *, type regedit #in the * search * box, then click on * regedit.exe* in the * list of programs.
    # Find and then click the registry subkeys that are similar to the following: * HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contr ol\Class{36FC9E60-C465-11CF-8056-444553540000}\Four-digit_number.* in this step, the numero_a_quatre_chiffres is a placeholder for the USB devices in the system.
    # You must search the registry subkey by using the value that you noted in step 9 above. For example, if the key of the pilot to step 9 is * {36fc9e60-c465-11cf-8056-444553540000} \0002*, then you need to get * HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contr ol\Class {36FC9E60-C465-11CF-8056-444553540000} \0002. (For me, as mentioned above, this was \0005 (36fc9e60-c465-11cf-8056-444553540000)). *

    # On the * Edit * menu, point on * New * and then click on * DWORD value *.
    # Type# * ForceHCResetOnResume * to the name of the DWORD and then press ENTER.
    # Right click * ForceHCResetOnResume * and then click on * edit *.
    # In the * boite box the value data, type# 1 and then click on * OK *.
    # Exit the registry editor.
    # Restart the computer.

This fixed the problem for a long time for me. I'm writing this in case it helps someone else who has the same problem. If anyone from Toshiba never reads this, you might consider adding the registry fixes for upgrades of windows 7 on the download page for this & all other models affected.

Big Hey what s announced and detailed, thank you! :)
I m wondering how you discovered it.

But I want to add something: before you make or change something in the Windows registry, make a backup of it. In the worst cases, restore you the old Windows registry. Just to be sure ;)

    Hi guys

I found very useful Web of Toshiba site that provides all the answers!

You can check and you can get all the details of your order to Win 7 on the page of Toshiba Europe:
    http://EU.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com/-> Win 7 Upgrade-> Win 7 upgrade redemption site-> track your order

You can also check the FAQ area on this page and you will find the explanations on the billing and payment.

+ Cost of upgrade is Windows 7? +
+ The software itself is free. Do us, however, charge you a fee to concoct the upgrade kit, but also a flat rate shipping charge. The taxes applicable to your order will be calculated during the order process and shown to you until you can confirm the execution of your order by clicking on "submit order". +

It s clear that the software itself is free and you do not need to pay for Win 7.
But the whole process (put together the upgrade kit, material, delivery, etc.) fee. But this tax will appear for you until you can confirm the execution of your order
If you can accept it or you can leave

    So I m wondering what's the problem?
If you n t want an upgrade, then you can buy a full license of Microsoft which is much more than 29, -.

  • 23 - b090 H3Z78AA #ABA: Validation for upgrade to Windows 10

When my all in one office is validated for the upgrade to Windows 10?

If your PC Windows 7 or 8 was manufactured before August 2013 or running Windows XP or Windows Vista, HP cannot confirm that it can be upgraded to Windows 10.

Make sure you have all the latest updates for the OS, you're using currenlty.  If your system was manufactured before August 2013, visit the Microsoft site at www.microsoft.com/windows10upgrade this will run a check and can install base drivers and can work for you.

    I hope this helps.

  • HP Envy m6 1183 for example: stuttering mouse after upgrade to Windows 10

After the upgrade of Windows 8.1 for Windows 10 my mouse is "stuttering". With stuttering I don't mean lag but changes of symbol like 3 times every second from the normal pointer to a pointer with the blue loading ring and back. If I want for example to rename a file, once I typed in some letters it also marks all the text, so I have to restart. Another example is when I want to move a window, it automatically turns its back to the original position, so I have to take baby steps to move.

I use a HP Envy m6 1183, for example, the product number is C2C05EA #ABD

If you have HP SimplePass installed, try the following:

    1. launch HP SimplePass

    2. click on settings (the train to the upper right)

    3. remove the check mark next to "LaunchSite.

    4. click OK, then close HP SimplePass

If this does not resolve the problem, then there probably another background process causing flicker.  You can open (Ctrl + Alt + Delete on the Windows desktop) Task Manager and under the "treatments" tab to see if something is constantly causing CPU activity (look at the percentages in the CPU column).  If so, you can emphasize this topic and click "End task" to see if the cursor will stop blinking.  If Yes, you can then Google the name of the process to try to know what piece of software it is bound to, and then see if there are any available updates or uninstall the software, if it's something you have no use for.

    Hello:

Your model is pretty easy to install W7 x 64 on.

If you let me know which model of laptop wireless card is came with, I'll post the link to this driver too.

I don't think the drivers wireless since the page g7z-2100 driver will work.

Here are links to most of the drivers you need:

First of all, download and install the AMD chipset driver and restart.  To install the smbus and usb3 controllers.

    http://support.AMD.com/en-us/download/chipset?OS=Windows 7-64

You can then use all the other W7 x 64 drivers and software the g7z-2100 on the link below (except maybe the wireless).

Then I realized, I can't turn on wireless. The button is just disabled.

Can only be connected on the local network.

Search on the web revealed HP Wireless Assistant be the culprit. This should be removed before the upgrade in Win 7.

It is now too late.  Does anyone have a resolution for this one?

I read in another post that changing the default BIOS settings should do the trick.

    That seems to work:

    -Stop the laptop

-Remove the power cable & battery

-Press the on switch for 30 seconds

    -Power home

    -Laptop power and press F10

-Enter the BIOS and set the changes to default

    That seemed to work.

Of course, restarting do not work and that is easy to fix (driven from power!).
