  My Macbook Pro 2011 (start) 13 "has served me very well. I took the approach to resist many updates over the past 1.5 years).

  However, in the last 6 weeks, it really began to slow down. I'm not too keen on the storage in the Macbook Pro 2015 options so not sure I want to buy immediately. I have never tried to upgrade the macbook - so I don't know how easy/possible/useful it is to do. Here is my card... can someone tell me if this can be improved and if so, if she's worth ($-wise)?

I heard it is expensive to have Apple install memory, but I really do not trust myself to install it alone! • How to upgrade my Macbook Pro RecoveryOS?

  A few months ago, I upgraded to OS X El Capitan. It has been mostly well except for the Protection of the integrity of system (SIP) always so annoying feature. Since I've updated, I found that my boot rEFInd Manager now does not appear at startup, actually, preventing me to boot into my linux partition.

In addition, SIP cannot be disabled because my RecoveryOS is too old for some reason any! According to the profile subject, I have version 1.0 of the RecoveryOS.   I am running the latest version of OS X El Capitan (10.11.1), so I don't know why the RecoveryOS did not update during the installation. I have a Mid 2012 15 "Macbook Pro (no Retina Display, identifier (9.1) 2.3 GHz Intel Core i7, 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3 RAM, a 512GB SSD Samsung Pro 850 and NVIDIA GeForce GT 650 M 512 MB graphics card). My question is this: it is better to buy a MacBook Pro of 2012 at a low price to exchange the RAM 16 GB and add an SSD? I like the fact that are not fixed the main components of the system board with the Mac, as well as the CD player is a nice bonus, but not a must.

  If someone has done this before, could you share cost & products you used? I'm leaning toward Crucial RAM and an external hard drive Samsung EVO 850. The RAM I could redeem myself, but the player I would have a local shop do ($115 for work).

  Mainly, I'm a student on a budget trying to keep costs down while still being able to move in the Apple computers category. Frankly put, I just got it with Windows.   With a SSD and extra RAM, it is a very beautiful Mac laptop. Crucial RAM is excellent, and the Samsung should be fine too (although I myself would get that Crucial also).

  I have a 17 "2011 MBP with El Capitan installed without any reported problems.  I have 16 GB of RAM installed and a Crucial SSD 1 TB.

  Understand that the only time where we MUST install a more recent OSX really is if there are applications that need it.  Other wise, it is an option.  That said, I've read some suggesting that El Capitan might be more effective than Yosemite.  I have no reason to say that.
