iSCSI LUN DS shows as blank hard drive

I had an iSCSI directory store with a single VM on it.  The ESX 3.5i server no longer recognizes the LUN as a directory store.  When I click on 'Add a storage' can see the LUN but reports that "the hard drive is empty.

I have not conducted through the add storage wizard because I don't want to lose the virtual machine that resides on the subject.

Does anyone know of a method that will allow me to add that LUN as a DS so I can recover the data?

If you have a backup and you want to try, you can go through the steps outlined in 'Recovering a lost on a VMFS volume partition table' http://kb.vmware.com/kb/1002281

Make sure that you have read the warning, however.

Good luck.

  • Satellite M200 Vista shows that the HARD drive is full of 98%

This problem showed about 2 months ago the system started running slowly and after a bit of research, I went to computer and found he showed that the HARD drive was full of 98%. Then I went and disabled the feature of shadow copy that reached about 3 Gig. After that, the performance was still hurt, so I decided to do a system restore. All reformatted once was good again until a week ago, and the same problem came back once again.

This laptop is running Vista Home Premium SP1, 120 Gig drive HARD, Kaspersky Anti-virus, it has very limited connection to the Net, as it is mainly used to store and transfer music on an Ipod (20 GB of music).

Any thoughts? Maybe a hardware failure?

    Thanks in advance.

    Craig.

Hardware failure is very likely, since you are clearly able to access your hard disk without problem.
Looks like you are using software that could be gradually fill the hard drive with data, such as a log file, it is difficult to say.
With the erosion of the space, you might want to periodically check each folder in drive C (right click, properties) and see how it changes for each new session.

Also clean the temporary files would help such as for:

    "c:\temp".
    "c:\windows\temp".
    "%userprofile%\Local Settings\Temp.
erase internet files of Internet Explorer cache / temporary
deactivation and reactivation then "System Restore" (do this only if you are satisfied with Vista is running stable)

He said nothing, I mean diagnostic tool Pc can can show result falsely and the drive works very well himself. In any case, backup all data in case of failure. You can also download the 3rd party program to test the State of the hard drive. (such as hard drive Inspector)

  • DVD players do not show up as removable devices in solution under my computer Explorer - they show that local hard drives

DVD players in my machine do not appear in the removable devices section of the browser on the computer.  They are found under hard drives and he has not shown the removable devices section.

Some of my applications cannot detect that there is a DVD drive attached to the system because of that.

As a problem, the USB devices do not show as removable storage also.

I tried to reinstall the devices for DVD players but no change to the situation.

Can anyone suggest a solution?  The problem has persisted since I did a clean install of Windows 7 Pro.

    Thank you

    Hi Steveci,

There are a few things I would say.  Go to your computer manufacturer's website to get the latest version of the BIOS and drivers for the chipset of your machine.  Also, please see the following article some troubleshooting for the reader of CD/DVD is not recognized:

  • How to install Windows 7 upgrade on a blank hard drive

My previous installation of Windows 7 upgrade on my hard drive that had a Windows XP installed upgrading later had a HD failure. I bought a new HD and have not been able to perform a reinstallation of Windows 7 using either the previous update purchased DVD. How can I install my upgrade to Windows 7 on the new HD?

If your computer comes with a qualifying previous license such as Windows Vista or Windows XP and the certificate of authenticity is still attached to the machine in good condition, then the COST is reason enough to represent the compliance to the software license agreement. No previous required software installation, which means you can do a clean install with Windows 7 Upgrade disk.

How to do a clean install with upgrade disc:

Boot from the Windows 7 DVD

    Click Install now

    Accept the license agreement

When the option is displayed to select a type of installation, click (Custom advanced)

    Click on drive Options

Select the disc/s click on Delete

    Click new

    Click on apply

    Click OK

Click Format, and then click next to proceed with the installation

Skip entering your product key Windows 7 and complete the installation.

When you reach the desktop, click Start, right-click on computer

    Click on properties

Scroll down to the Windows Activation

Click the link x days before activation.

Click on the link that says: "show me other ways to activate.

    Enter the product key

    Click next

Select the Activation of the phone

Click Next when you enter your key page

    Select your country

Click Next, call the number listed

Be sure to explain your situation to the Appeals Officer.

Provide the installation generated when ID requested by the call agent

They give a confirmation ID in return, enter it

Click next to complete the activation.

However, the requirements for the media upgrade is that you have an operating system already eligible such as Windows XP or Vista installed to use it. Since the Windows 7 end user license agreement.

15 UPDATES. To use upgrade software, you must first be licensed for the software that is eligible for the upgrade. After the upgrade, this agreement takes the place of the agreement for the software that you upgraded. After upgrade, you can no longer use the software that you upgraded.

So, if you are always denied, you will just have to reinstall Windows XP or Vista and let it do the verification of eligibility.

    or

How to activate Windows 7 manually (activate by phone)

    1) click Start and in the search for box type: slui.exe 4

    (2) press the ENTER"" key.

    (3) select your "country" in the list.

  • T60p and blank hard drive

    Model: Lenovo T60p 2613-CTO

Recently my laptop gave me a blue screen with message unmountable_boot_volume.  Even when you use the thinkvantage option there was a blue screen so was not able to update the laptop to the factory by reinstalling the operating system from the recovery partition.

So I tried to boot the hard drive from another cd to try to repair the hard drive. After resolving some files the chkdsk program stopped and you leave so the hard drive could not be repaired in this way.

Then I tried ubuntu and it was able to detect the hard drive. I was also able to install ubuntu on it, but in the process that all of the hard disk has crashed.

I also use a hard disk again now because that showed many areas like went wrong.

I want to get that back to refresh your factory with xp installed and ability (thinkvantage) of recovery on the hard drive and all that? How can I do this?

The warranty has expired also. I don't have any CD that could have come with the laptop.

    Welcome to the forum!

You can contact Lenovo and see if they will sell you a recovery CD set, used to be S & H, $45 + tax.

Good luck and let us know.

  • Added raw lun mapped as a new hard drive, but VM does not see it.

ESX 4.0 with two Windows Server 2008 virtual computer running.

Created with SAN volumes and put at the disposal of the ESX host.

I went in with my client vSphere virtual machine settings and added a new hard drive > mapped raw lun, stored with VM, physical and everything seems to set up correctly after hitting good. I also increased the size of the other two disks on this virtual machine. I rebooted the VM and connected to the server to find that he does not see the new drive, or he does not see the new size increases for other readers. I rebooted the host and yet, nothing new.

What have I done wrong? Why these changes are not recognized by the virtual machine?

After the increase in the size of disk or adding new disks, you must go the the VM Windows disk management and resize or format/partition/boot disks.

  • I'll do a clean install on a blank hard drive upgrade but want to keep my Firefox settings - what is the best way to do this?

I'll do an upgrade from Windows XP to Windows 7. I will be installing Windows 7 on a new empty hard drive. I want to keep my bookmarks Firefox and Ad Ons. What is the best way to do it. Thank you for your help.

    Hello

The best thing for you to do is to make a backup of your Firefox profile. It is a folder that stores bookmarks and Add-ons that you can then add to the reinstalled Firefox on your new operating system.

Learn you more about the Firefox profile folder, how to backup and restore, here.

I hope this helps, but if not, please come back here and we can look at in another option for you.

  • Satellite P100-188: recovery CD will install the SATA drivers on a blank HARD drive

I was wondering if someone could tell me if my recovery disk would be automatically installs the drivers for SATA HDD on my P100-188, in the case of a hard drive failure total without needing a floppy drive.

I've never had to use my recovery disc (touch wood), but I have the impression that it works in conjunction with a hidden partition on the hard drive in order to reinstall the operating system if and when necessary, I am not mistaken? If I'm so what happens if the hard drive is destroyed and a new disk? A

s Windows is not integrated SATA drivers I've read on the Internet that would stop dead in its tracks installation if you do not have a diskette at hand drive.

Someone had to deal with this problem?

    Hello

Yes, the restore CD installs everything you need in a single step.

The point is that the Toshiba Recovery CD is not the same as an original CD of MS Windows. The restore CD contains an image. It s a Pack that included OS Win, Toshiba drivers, utilities and software tools extra.

So, using the CD recovery will install all the applications mentioned, as well as the SATA drivers ;)

    Welcome them

  • An image of the system will restore Windows 8 on a blank HARD drive?

    Hey everybody,

I work for a hospital and have to keep sensitive information on my laptop occasionally. Therefore, I would like to wipe my HARD drive a few months so that if my computer is lost or stolen it will be a lot of private information on it.

However, I do not have a CD with Windows 8 on it (no one seems to give more backup discs). I do an image of the system to use as a back up, but I want to make sure that wiping HARD drive is OK before I do it.

    In short:
If I have a system image in Windows 8, stored on an external HARD drive, can I restore my operating system of it on my laptop if I completely erase my laptop's HARD drive?

    Hi Michael J Caboose.

Thanks for posting in the Microsoft Community.

Yes, it is possible for you to create a system image on an external drive backup and use it later to restore the operating system.

Windows 8 has a new option file history which will help you to create the system image.

Select the Recovery option in the file history. Click on the image of the system to create an and select the drive you want to the same backup/create.

Here are some articles that will help you to perform this task successfully.

Set up a drive to history file

How to use the file history

Note: However before wiping on the hard drive of the laptop, make sure that you have supported the important data on the drive.

    Hope this information helps.

If you need further assistance, please answer and we will be happy to help you.

  • installation of windows 7 in blank hard drive

I had a virus on my pc which has deleted everything and now the pc does not start. im going to buy a new hard drive but I need to know if I can install windows 7 on the new? or do intall recovery disks all hard drive is empty?

If you have recovery discs you can do. Put in disc one and pull upwards.

the old drive should still be physically ok. So you can just try pick up on this disc. When you run the recovery DVD, it erases the disk and should be fine. May be worth a try before you go out and buy a new hard drive.

    Good luck

  • Time machine shows no external hard drive

I have two external drives: USB key contains my iTunes and a 1 TB WD Passport contains photos and other files. I also have a Time Capsule I use to save them. When external drives are plugged into my Macbook USB ports all right; they back up regularly and I can see the backups after entering Time Machine.

However, when they are disconnected and I enter the time Machine I can't see them more. That concerns me. If one of these devices is lost or stolen, how they may be visible in Time Machine so I can restore?

See the info on the restoration of several partitions of Pondini.

    See Q32 here. http://pondini.org/TM/FAQ.html

However I would recommend that you use Time Machine to back up all your local startup disk... Carbon Copy Cloner to backup your other readers... It is able to select each drive and make another backup... Time Machine is too limited.

  • My computer shows no external hard drive

I am preparing to upgrade to Windows 7 XP. I bought the Western Digital My Book Essential drive (2 TB) external drive to back up my computer (300 GB partitioned into three logical drives). The drive appears in Device Manager as installed and working. but is not in the "My computer" window After discussing the problem with the Western Digital support, I was able to put in place a work around by placing a shortcut to the drive on the desktop, but would rather do appear in 'My Computer' window before starting the next phase of backup of the computer to do a fresh install of Windows 7. Is there a solution for this? Please and thanks in advance. Desktop computer Dell XPS (Gen 5) with 2 GB of RAM.

You can access the drive via a shortcut on the desktop, but you do not say what happens if you open Windows Explorer and put the drive letter (or the drive letter and folder name) into the address bar.

In other words, open Windows Explorer and type I:\ (or S:\ or whatever it is you the reader named at this stage).  If this works, you should be able to run Windows Easy Transfer (or a backup program) and specify the external drive as a target.  There is really no need to use 'my computer '.

(For after your description of how you created the shortcut, it seems that type the drive letter in the address bar of Windows Explorer will work fine.)

  • How can I transfer a DVD to a TV show on my hard drive so I can send by e-mail?

I have a DVD of a television show and you want to send content to a person. How can I do this?

May depend on what e-mail program you use as to whether the mail link to send to is available

In basic terms, you copy the entire dvd through Explorer to a temporary location, then attach this file to the email.

But if the dvd is DRM locked the other party isn't able to play.

Then of course, theres the file size of attachment to consider and if yours or the recipients mail provider has size limitations

  • Satellite C660: HARD drive space shows only 20 GB of free?

Toshiba Satellite c660 with 320 GB of disk space, it shows that 2 hard drives or 2 partitions, one called data shows only 20.6 GB of free on 148, but when I go in there I can only find at maximum approximately 50 GB even with all the backups?

    Hello

There are more partitions on the HARD drive.
You can see it in disk management.
Right click on computer and select manage.
Now you should be able to go to the disk management which will show you all the available partitions.

A hidden partition is used for the Windows 7 backup files that are needed to fix the Windows 7 in the case where something goes wrong with the OS.
Then, you can find a Windows partition and the other partition is used for HARD drive recovery. The point is that you are able to run the system recovery from the HARD drive without the use of the recovery disc (recover disk must be created using the recovery disc creator)
