jpg file size during "Save as."

You have worked on a jpg file and want to "save under" it.  You have the chance to choose your compression before saving.  In the elements, it shows the size of the file, so you can choose your compression level to meet the requirements of file size.  CC of Photoshop doesn't have this feature.  I find it frustrating.  Any ideas?

Use the file export as... or save for Web... also found under file > export. These two options will show the size of the file.

  • JPG file size inflated - Photoshop Document metadata: ancestors

    Has anyone experience this problem?

    I have a JPG file I have deleted all the image of and filled with white. When I save it, the size 7.89 MB. If I go into Bridge and clear metadata, probably ' < Document: ancestors > ' which contains ' RDF: bag <>"and 100 + lines of hexadecimal code, the file size down to about 150. Maybe I'm missing a file option on photoshop, but it seems that this metadata should be rubbed on the saved file. In addition, no one knows what kind of information is stored in the Document ancestors? Or if there is information from integrated image that could potentially be extracted?

    I was able to reach out to Adobe through my work. They mentioned that it was abnormal behavior so that there are over 100,000 lines of Document ancestors and thought it's maybe because it was a model. It turns out that a lot of the art I work with has lines of ancestors, and when you place them in a whole new file, this file becomes the. Many of these assets are CG renders, which too would be new files. While I don't know source of the Document ancestors, I could find a way to eliminate:

    function deleteDocumentAncestorsMetadata() {
        whatApp = String(app.name);//String version of the app name
        if(whatApp.search("Photoshop") > 0) { //Check for photoshop specifically, or this will cause errors
            //Function Scrubs Document Ancestors from Files
            if(!documents.length) {
            alert("There are no open documents. Please open a file to run this script.")
            return;
            }
            if (ExternalObject.AdobeXMPScript == undefined) ExternalObject.AdobeXMPScript = new ExternalObject("lib:AdobeXMPScript");
            var xmp = new XMPMeta( activeDocument.xmpMetadata.rawData);
            // Begone foul Document Ancestors!
                xmp.deleteProperty(XMPConst.NS_PHOTOSHOP, "DocumentAncestors");
                app.activeDocument.xmpMetadata.rawData = xmp.serialize();
             }
    }
    //Now run the function to remove the document ancestors
    deleteDocumentAncestorsMetadata();

    Adobe has indicated that these were intended for the medical legal file and contained no sensitive information. I also tested this script with a loop provided in one of the Javascript reference Documents, and while it removes successfully ancestors without opening the file, it does not reduce the size of file until it is opened and saved again. So it must be run before you save on an open file and fit easily in my save scripts. Problem solved!

    If you are new to scripting, copy the lines above in a text of the document (no formatting as it can not work) and change the extension of JSX. From here in Photoshop, go to file > Scripts > Browse, locate this script to run on an open file. This can be tedious to do by file, so if you run on several, place the file in a fixed location and record an action that runs this script. If you don't know, once the script is saved you lot this script on the file navigation files > PLC > batch. Because the file needs to be saved to eradicate the ancestors of the document, I recommend pairing your script with a backup action as in a fixed location, as save in as long as actions will remember the folder you saved in.

  • File size problems save for Web!

    Hello

    I have a problem with the size of the files when you save files to certain specifications.

    I use 'Save for Web' tool to identify the weight of the image by changing the amount of colors used.

    In the tool, the weight seems to be in line with the specifications, but when I check in the Finder (for information), it tells me it is finished the required specifications.

    Example - in the save for Web tool, it indicates that the weight is 6.967 KB for a .gif 300x50px using 100 colors.

    But in the finder, it says it's 8 254 bytes!

    Why is this happening?

    How can we solve this?

    Operating system does not automatically add the data preview. My guess is that Photoshop is adding metadata during registration.

    A few tips:

    • Try using PNG instead of GIF. The file size is almost always small. You may have heard that PNG does not work with Internet EXPLORER. This applies to versions prior to Internet EXPLORER 7, which is currently on a 2% share of the browser market. The problem only affects transparency 8 bits, so 8-bit png with transparency 1 bit very well work.
    • Download PING from MacUpdate. This is a free PNG optimizer. Drag the PNG files on the application icon in order to optimize. Savings can be dramatic.
    • If you insist on using search for GIF optimizers, GIF also on MacUpdate.
  • JPG file size adjustment

    Before I could right-click on my JPG file always in the timeline panel and a menu drop-down allowed me to adjust the size to fit.  S omehow, t his feature is now gone. Is there a way to reactivate this feature drop-down list?

    Yes.

    • Select the Clip in the timeline
    • Go to the Clip menu top > video Options > scale to the size of the image / image size value

  • Why a jpg file size grows when I OPEN it in Photoshop before you do anything for her?

    I open a jpg file which my trusty Mac tells me is 2.4 MB, but Photoshop has immediately 34.8 Mb in size of the image. It is a picture of 72 dpi which is 59,333 inches width x 39,556 inches in height. I want to REDUCE it to one 17 "(approx.) size 11" for printing, which allows Photoshop to increase the resolution. I UNCHECK resample, and enter a width of 17. I have 17 inches wide; 11,333 inches and a resolution of 251,294 inches. Great! What I don't understand, however, is that - without Photoshop add no matter what pixel (remember, I REDUCE the size of the photo without resampling) - the size of the file is more than 14 times larger. The same thing with each jpg Photoshop I opened: 129Kb photo opens in Photoshop to 482.6 Kb; a 1.2 MB file opens to 5.49 MB, etc. I didn't not do anything at all, but open them. Without a doubt, it's something I should have learned (maybe you) long, long ago, but it has baffled me now. Very grateful for any help.

    The size you see in the finder is the compressed size. When you open it in Photoshop, you can see the enlarged size.

  • Why the JPG file size decreases when Lightroom writes meta data?

    Lightroom uses the files sidecar XMP for meta data history for RAW files. When writing the metadata (e.g. tags) to JPG files, they are written directly in the header of the file. This should leave the image information in the file intact. However, the file size decreases (about 0.02 MB) when Lightroom writes metadata for the original JPG file. As far as I could see, the image information remain unchanged and no other information in the header is deleated, but why decreases the size of the file then (I expect to increase slightly or stay the same)? I work with RAW files for most but sometimes I just versions of the files to work with JPG and I don't want to lose any information.

    Thanks in advance for your answers.

  • Size of the JPG files are really big? Changed to CC worm 2015.

    the .jpg files, I created one year before (and earlier) were around 300 k in size of file for a an RGB color of the file with dimensions 500 x 350 pixels recorded by clicking file, save under, with 12 quality .jpg.

    After upgrading to 2015 CC worm of Photoshop, the same exact files are now saved more than 1 MB? I used the same method to save as before.

    I reduced the .jpg quality to 8 (on a scale of 1 to 12) and she falls down to just less than 1 MB.

    I thought maybe it was because I was adding more graphics, so I created a solid black rectangle same size exact and recorded in CC 2015 and she was 1.07 MB, tried a white rectangle, 1.07 MB. Two solid colors using 8 for quality .jpg?

    Why the huge .jpg in size the file now? I understand using save for Web... etc, but if it worked before using the method I always used, why it does not work now and why Adobe it changed without notifying us?

    I use the same computer for all scenarios above, i7 with 16 GB of ram on a PC.

    I see someone in January posted the similar problem on their Mac and it has never been resolved:

    When I add text to an image that starts as a RAW file, I have no problem. When I try to add text to an image that is only a jpg file, the size of the text is extremely low. Even when I change the the font size to 72 pt, it is always small. How can I fix it?

    You set the font size to a size that is suitable for the size of the document.   Size of the document may vary everywhere.   To resolve this problem in action, I solved in scaling the document to a known size then use a font suitable for a document of this size.  When you resize an image using size with resample Images not only checked a single pixel is change everything that is changed is the DPI image resolution setting.  So if you size a picture 8 "wide you choose a font size is good for wide image 8" the Save action.  To work around the problem of changing the size of the printing I wrote a Script to use in such an action.  The script is used twice, there is a backup and restore script.   The first time that the script is used the script records the resolution DPI images in the metadata documents.  The second time that the script is executed, it retrieves the registered PID parameter deletes the record of metadata from images and set the DPI images that had been saved.    If the use of fonts for the document 8 "will be resized to fit the print original size.

    In a script, you can calculate a correct font size to use.  Actions cannot retrieve information or use logic. They need to use the Plug-ing and Script where logic is needed.  When you make using Photoshop UI you use your eyes and brain.

  • How can I reduce the size of the file when you save a psd in pdf format

    I have a psd with graphics and text, it is 8.5 x 11, 300 dpi

    I flatten the image and go to save as .pdf file I uncheck all options in general.

    Compression, I tried a dozen different combinations and the way I found to get a document that is not pixelated or blurred is to use JPEG 2000 > lossless or jpeg > maximum.

    So I have a document of high quality but the file sizes are approximately 900 KB.

    I downloaded the documents of others of the exact same type and size (8.5 x 11, 300 dpi) that I have seen in Photoshop, they aren't pixelated or blurred and their file sizes are 300 KB or even less than 200 KB

    How do do that?

    Delete all layers used, invisible.

    Zip compression is sometimes better than the jpg compression (in the pdf output settings). Zip is lossless and it works best with a color not degraded or not images.

    Flatten the image before saving it to pdf format can reduce the size of the file, if you use the jpg compression.

    See a preview of your pdf file and we can comment further on how to reduce the size of the file.

  • Is it possible when you save the psd file to put an automatic jpg file saved at the same time?

    My job is to prepare images for print viewers and window facilities.  My clients need to approve in advance the photos before printing.

    I generally save my psd files, but because the files are very large in this format I usually save another copy in a jpg file which has a much smaller file size.  This makes it possible for me to add to a presentation and and send them to my client.

    Is possible when you save the psd file to put an automatic jpg file saved at the same time?  Or that I always have to do it manually?

    Use the Image Processor in Photoshop or install the free Dr. Brown Services.

  • How to reduce the size of the jpg file, not the size of pixel?

    I prepare images for the web and I really have 2 questions: one on gifs and the other on the jpg files.
    My standard procedure is to reduce the image to the desired at 600 dpi pixel dimensions
    It gives me a little crisp image. can I use this what if the file size is quite low (I try for less than 600 KB) or convert to gif with the save for Web and devices.

    Here are my 2 questions (I'll count this solved with each answer)

    (1) when I convert a gif that I have 4 boxes: one with the original size, the other 3 with options but, often, the options are too low resolution for me how can I change my 3 options starting with a higher res gif?

    (2) if I try to reduce the size of the jpg in the image size box I put the lower resolution (400, 300), which reduces the pixel dimensions and the size of the file, but I don't want to change the pixel dimensions. If I reset the dimensions in pixels to the size I want, even if it is a lower resolution that the file size does not change. How to reduce the size of the jpg file using only the resolution, the pixel dimensions not?  PS I tried to play with the checking and unchecking the 3 small boxes (scale of styles, constrain the proportions and re - sample) but nothing has worked.

    GIF is not a type of large file, especially if you want a sharp image. What are the dimensions of the pixel?

    For the web, it is immaterial that the dpi is, only the last pixel dimensions, so once you have that you want to use 'save for Web and devices' and you can reduce quality - 100% being the maximum and 0% being the lowest. I wouldn't save anything less than 55%. For an image of 600 KB, the size must be large enough.

  • LR3 Export jpg incorrect file size

    I have a file CR2 4752 x 3168 and 22,22 MB that I want to export in jpg format. I select the resolution to 72 with dimensions of 1024 x 683 (the biggest on the side are 1024) with a limit of 150 KB file. I get a file that is 155KO with the indicated dimensions / resolution. I put the maximum file 130 KB size and get a file that is 155 KB. I have to set the limit to 100 KB to keep less than 150 KB file size. I can do the same thing in CS5 to help save it to the Web without any problem.

    It is not that hard to convert and resize an image web import limits.

    This is a bug in LR3. Kind of attachment in LR 3.2RC, except when you use the size limit of files and the watermark, the watermark will appear on export, so another bug was introduced.

  • Place .jpg of PS CS3 to the IllusCS3 file size question

    Newbie here-Good Morning

    I have created a doc in Illustrator which will be finally saved as a pdf for viewing online.  PS, I am increasing the ppi images from 72 to 300 as well as decreasing its size, average savings quality jpg and I get a file size about 175 k (perfect for me).  When I place the image in Illustrator and save the file, I get an overall document file size increase of more than 800 k.

    Is it possible to avoid this?

    Thank you!

    I wouldn't worry. You can always "optimize" the PDF file in Acrobat to reduce its size. If you need to do in artificial intelligence, the trick is to make good use of the resampling options in the PDF saver. If you type to match the parameters, then it should correctly recognize JPEG images as already being the size and the correct resolution and not resample the, but nest them with their initial size.
