Is it possible to do so, to delete messages without moving them to the trash and then remove them from there? It is important that I don't miss any messages, I still sometimes do, but I'll have 50 posts or more per day that are trash.   To make a new folder that you go to the folder you want the new folder created under, in this case, the local folders. Click with the right button on local folders and select new folder.

  When moving messages in IMAP, you want to be offline, syncing Thunderbird/server is out of the picture, and then drag the messages from the existing to the new folder new folder and drop them there.
