I have an old laptop that I am donating to a charity.  I try to load XP Pro SP2 above, because the key on the bottom says xp pro.  But during installation it says the key is invalid?  How can I fix?

It is possible that you will need to a disk with SP3 slipstreamed in there - much SP3 keys are a new slice that has been issued and is not recognized by the previous discs.

    Hello

I would take it back to the workshop of repair and demand that they fix it properly and send it to you already reactivated.

It is a way around it, but it's time and and maybe more money:

As you can not read your product key on the label, we cannot help you get your product key (Key Finder programs will not solve it).

The way around this is to contact your laptop manufacturer and ask them to send you recovery disks to reinstall the operating system properly. They should send records for a small fee.

While you are in contact with the Manufaxcturer of the laptop also ask them if there is a way to reinstall the operating system on a recovery partition on the hard drive of your laptop, allowing you to save money.

Either of these methods of recovery normally does not imply that you have to insert a product key as factory Setup key is automatically used to activate this process.

My advice, in order of preference:

    1. repair facility

    2. recovery of the process.

    See you soon.

Your laptop probably came with Windows preinstalled. If so, the key, it was installed with is not * your * key. ; It is a General key used by the manufacturer for the preinstallation of Windows on * several * computers. This key, which got you with "Magical Jelly Bean Keyfinder" is not the same color as the NCB on the sticker on the laptop, and it is not the key you need to reinstall Windows.

Contact the manufacturer of the laptop to know what to do.

  • I bought my Dell computer in 2012 and had to reload my Windows 7 but my product key at the bottom of my computer

I bought my Dell computer in 2012 and had to reload my Windows 7 but my product key at the bottom of my computer is worn and I was wondering if it is possible for Microsoft to have a copy of it.

    No, unfortunately.

But since you bought a Dell computer, it provides a DVD of free relocation for each model, which is a clean copy of the OS without the bloatware factory but just a logo and a standalone activation.  Order here: need backup Media? Reference Dell U.S.

I would not use the drivers disk unless you need to install the driver of LAN network to get online.  Instead, follow these steps to clean reinstall Windows 7, install all your Important and optional Windows updates until no more are available, so all still pilots missing in Device Manager must be imported from the Web page of the Dell Support downloads for your tag number.

Other than that if you still have the recovery partition on the disk Dell and it does not start after restoration of PC Dell Windows 7

Then, you can try to run it manually after the recovery Partition to start using EasyBCD .  This also activates the self.

    product key for help

I bought a mobile phone 2nd hand via personal sales.  The laptop came with Windows Vista home premium installed.  They had erased the hard drive before selling that I expected.  After 3 weeks, I started to have a prompt for assets using a product key.  The sticker on the bottom is quite alert by.  Everything I've read here, says I need a new product key... I do not understand how am I supposed to buy a completely new windows program?

If there is a sticker on the bottom, it's OEM. One thing to check because it of a laptop, whether or not it has a recovery partition you want to restore from.

Click Start > right click on computer > manage > in store > disk management

It can show a recovery/system partition which can be used to update the laptop to the factory settings. If it is there, Google your laptop make/model with 'restore factory settings' and it should tell you how to do (each laptop can be different)

Hope this helps, if not, you can buy a new copy of selling at retail.

To analyze and solve problems for Activation and Validation, we need to see a full copy of the report produced by the MGADiag (download and save to the desktop - http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012 ) tool
    Once saved, run the tool.
Click on the button continue, which will produce the report.
To copy the report in your response, click the button copy in the tool (ignore the error at this stage), and then paste (using r-click and paste or Ctrl + V) in your response.

It is quite possible that all you need to do is to use activation by phone-

    telephone activation.
    Click the Start button
    in the search box, type
    SLUI 4
    and press the Enter key
Follow the instructions - but when asked which service you need the ansafone phone, don't answer - it should oblige the operator to answer, who can deal with you.

  • Error message, product key incorrect when you use the key from the bottom of my computer

I've had my laptop for a long time, but it have not used for a lot more than internet stuff.  However, I occasionally used for Word documents and now apparently used a trial period free but I didn't know existed.  So, I'm trying to put in my product key to get full use of return, but the computer always tells me that it is a mistake.  And it's not!  The number is on a sticker on the bottom of my computer, and I entered it correctly several times.  That I do know?  Thank you.

Please note that if you use the Windows 7 product key located on the certificate of authenticity attached to your system label, this will not work, it is only for Windows 7. You need a product key Office 2010.

If your computer comes with a trial version of Office, you need to get a trial key or buy a full license:

  • Is it a setback of product keys look?

I found my product key Microsoft, attached to a paper CD envelope but don't know what Microsoft product, the key is for. I would like for his determination, but obviously did not want to enter the key in a search engine.

It belongs to you? If it was up to you, I see the concern. If there is no immediate need or purpose for it, I would have put side until it happens, where an application may require a product key and it turs that he belongs to her.

You could run Belarc Advisor which recover all of your key products and compare it with what he finds to see if it matches with the results:

  • Windows 7 Home Premium, my product key on the bottom would work if I clicked on "change product key"?

Original title: ASUS x501a Windows 7-8.

    Hi all

I just registered here after having been a Microsoft user, since I started using computers, I think that when I started to use it is Windows XP haha, anyway.

I'm running Windows 7 on the following specifications

    4 GB of Ram

    HARD DRIVE 300 GB

Intel core i3 clocked at 2.6 GHz

    Intel HD 3000 graphics card

and it's an Asus x501a comes with 7 not 8, so I've upgraded to Windows 8, then I found out, I removed my recovery partition. Oops.

I know it's not a way to make it back, unless I did a copy of CD as I do not have.

so, if I got a copy of my friends Windows 7 Home Premium, my product key on the lower part would work if I clicked on "change product key"?

    Thank you

    Jordan Doughty

PS: Sorry for mistakes in my writing, I'm not used to a Macbook: P

If your friend has a retail upgrade or full version and it corresponds to the edition of your PC, then Yes, you can use it.

  • License key on bottom of laptop unreadable

Hi, I wanted to reinstall my windows system, but I have the problem that I can not read the license key on the bottom of my laptop more. It dissipated by moving the laptop. Now is +/-1 year, and I did not notice it's going off that fast, otherwise I would be copied, but unfortunately this is the only key I.
Is it possible to get that same key system, or support? Really, I can't afford a new license if it is the only solution.

    Hello

The license key belongs to the preinstalled Windows OS which was part of the image of Toshiba. This key should not work with other versions of Windows installed, so if you want to install the Windows operating system, then you must purchase Microsoft product distributor drive, or you can order a laptop Toshiba Toshiba Recovery disk.

  • HP Pavilion 15-n297ea: Dowgrade to windows 8, but no cd key

    Hello

My father has his laptop for a long time now and it came pre-installed with Windows 8. Some time later Windows 10 came out and we decided to upgrade... for the better...

We had a lot of problems since, but never had the time to work around it and down. Now that I decided to do, I discovered that there is no Windows KEY on the bottom of the laptop and I'm almost certain that I need to downgrade from 10 to 8/8.1

Is there a way to find the key then or is it possible to install the old OS without the key?

    Any help is appreciated!

You might want to try HP Recovery Manager to reinstall Windows 8. You may not have all the options after the upgrade - for best results, I recommend looking at the section "recovering when Windows does not start successfully.
