• Cannot activate Windows, the product key already in use

  Original title: product key already in use.

  Recently, my computer crashed (power).  Try to avoid problems with my hard drive, I bought the same computer exactly on the line.  I installed my old hard drive on the newest computer and all is well... Except, when trying to activate my Windows Vista Ultimate OS I get the error message "The key of product already in use" Microsoft site confirms that the product key is authentic, but still will not let me activate.  All solutions?

  Your old computer had a "Retail" or "OEM" of Windows installed version?

  OEM versions are related to the 1st motherboard they are installed and can not be activated on another motherboard. The only exception is the 'mother' is exactly the same make / model / part number as the original motherboard.

  Commercial versions can be moved from one computer to another without problem except that the the phone activation may be required.

• Responsible for Vista and works fine for about 2 days now, I get the product in use key try AnotherOne coming soon. I have old MB and HARD drive if that can help prove that I only want to use the key on a single machine.

  As noted, my motherboard has failed.  IDE only AGP CPU core.  Not much use trying to find anotherof those.  Replaced the motherboard with a newer version.  It has SATA, multi core processor, etc.  Processor and HARD drive had to be replaced.

  My Vista home premium 32 bit running on my machine for years.  I loaded it on the upgrade with no problems.  Went to windows update and SP1 and then SP2 and all other windows updates suggest and worked very well, for a few days.

  Now, I get a message that the product key is already used and need to buy AnotherOne coming soon.

  I didn't really want to do.

  OEM copies are not transferable between different motherboards.  The license is linked to the mobo mounted.  You are allowed to reagent a mobo replacement of the same make and model, but not an 'upgrade '.  However, you can try to activate by phone.  An agent can help you.

  The product key is used because 'you' use it. In other words it has already been activated once and the number of product key appears on the activation of Microsoft database. This isn't a problem, instead of activate over the internet, a simple call to the activation of Microsoft, line will solve the problem.   I'm running a server KMS on Windows server 2012 R2 and I have enabled more than 300 PC and servers.

  But for some reason, can no longer trigger the new PCs and servers. They get 0xc004c008 the activation server determined that the specified product key cannot be used.

  Nothing has changed on the KMS server and I do not see where the KMS host key could be used outside of the host itself.

  Well, I bought a legitimate copy of Windows 7 Professional 64 Bit and I try to update my PC after installing on the new PC to my father that I built for him. When I installed it on my gaming PC, everything was fine, but now I'm doing it on my work PC and it comes up saying that the key cannot be used on this computer! What! And yes the key that I use IS the one that came with my Windows software. It is NOT for the office, but for Windows 7! What is the PROBLEM!   Since you have already activated this product key, the server displays the key as being in use. Simply call the Activation Center and activate manually settle.

  1. press the Windows Logo key + R. This will bring up the run dialog box.

  2. in the Open: box, type slui 4 and press OK. This starts the manual activation wizard.

  3 select your country from the drop down and click Next.

  4. the wizard displays a toll-free telephone number. Leave the wizard open on the computer and call this phone number.
