  • Shortcut keyboard Toshiba Satellite Pro L300 - properties will not end

    Dear lovers of Toshiba:

This week, we have installed three new systems of Toshiba Satellite Pro L300 (two L300-153, a L300-156) with recovery media for Windows XP since the L300-156 product (no date on the disc, only two codes: CD 5 124624 and GMR400841EN0).

The machines are beautiful and very effective, except for one problem: when the logout or shutdown Windows XP, the program called 'The Toshiba keyboard shortcut properties' does not stop automatically and opens a dialog "end program". The user may terminate the program immediately by clicking on the button 'End now' or wait until it to expire, after which the system disconnects or terminate normally.

We noticed only after the installation of Service Pack 3 on all machines, so I don't know if the problem was present before SP3 has been applied. (We will be definitely check this on the following system and display the result.) Install the rest updates Windows with Service Pack 3 does not resolve the problem. Not more then that uninstall Toshiba Hotkey Utility by installing the package current, freshly downloaded from the Toshiba support area.

A colleague suggested disabling startup programs. There are two likely choices for this purpose in the startup list + of + msconfig +: * thotkey * and * TFncKy *. Disabling either of these programs allows the disappearance of problem, but the functions of the * Fn keys are lost. The key functions are also lost when uninstalling the Toshiba Hotkey Utility.

My question is of two parts:
    # Comment this problem be solved permanently, or circumvented (other than to say the customer never disconnect & close always the cover to hibernate)?
    # If there is no solution yet, how can a bug report situate with Toshiba, so I can get them the information they need to solve this problem and establish the responsibility?
I will continue to post new information here that I acquire until a permanent solution is reached.

Although this problem seems trivial and 'cosmetic' it's always awkward having to provide new machines customers with such an obvious flaw. It ourselves and Toshiba look bad, especially after that we sold the idea that people avoid problems of this kind to choose a Windows XP on Vista platform.

    Thank you, Robert Phair
    Director.

    > when the logout or shutdown Windows XP, the program called 'The Toshiba keyboard shortcut properties' does not stop automatically and opens a dialog "end program"...
    > We noticed only after the installation of Service Pack 3 on all machines, so I don't know if the problem was present before SP3 has been applied

Problems could be caused by Win XP SP3. I've read several times that SP3 could be not entirely compatible with drivers or 3rd tools
So I guess there is a problem of compatibility between the exe and SP3 files.
By the way; SP3 is not completely released and updated test!

I installed SP3 for some tests on my old non-Toshiba laptop and my work LAN card didn't so it of really possible that SP3 causes this.

    > There are two likely choices for this in the msconfig startup list: thotkey and TFncKy. Disabling either of these programs, the disappearance of the problem, but the functions of the Fn keys are lost

It is clear that the thotkey and TFncKy files belong to applications that control the FN keys, SO if you would disable this in msconfig then buttons would not work.

So, a solution might be a removal of SP3 System.
In addition, you should try to clean the registry and operating system using the free tool like CCleaner.

I hope this too, but it seems that this forum is only a user forum.

  • How to remove the password of BIOS on Satellite Pro M10

    Hi guys,.

I searched all over the web to find an answer, but has no success. So I really hope one of you can help out me.

I have a very old Toshiba Satellite Pro M10 with 512 MB in it. The laptop is protected by a BIOS password that I know. However, the problem is that I want to remove the password of BIOS completely. I know this isn't a big deal, but I find it annoying to type the BIOS password over and over again. Mostly because I am preparing this old lady for my oldest daughter. Furthermore, I just installed Windows 7 and it works well, but I have all the original software Toshiba, for example the HW configuration utility. I expect the download somewhere on the net, but unfortunately this is not as simple as that.

    Any help is appreciated!

    Thank you

    Jeroen

    Hey Buddy,

It is easy to remove the BIOS password. Follow the instructions posted by Al - eX.
As new password just enter anything and then the password is removed.

I m wondering that you have installed Windows 7 on Satellite Pro M10. It is a very old book, and in my opinion Windows XP would be the best choice.
In addition there are no downloads available for this model and Windows 7 on Toshiba page

I tried to install a new processor for my Toshiba Satellite Pro M10-PS630E.

I follow the maintenance manual, later the computer change is not star upward.

My question is "is it posible to do a reset of the bios parametrers" or "reset the CMOS?
Is it possible to get it working again.

    Hello

The flashing light means that it has detected a hardware problem on the motherboard!
Perhaps you have used a wrong CPU and is not compatible.

Perhaps the BIOS does not support this processor and therefore this flashing error code appears.

What say you can't update the BIOS! First of all, that's not possible since only focused on the victory of BIOS is available for download. You must run the Windows operating system to update the BIOS.
Secondly the update of the BIOS won't help you with this problem!

You must use a CPU that is fully compatible!

    Welcome them

  • Satellite Pro M10 displays the characters currupt at startup

I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro M10 that collapsed. When the system boots, the Toshiba logo seems to have a few points here and there. When displaying messages on the screen during startup, the characters seem corropted. For example, the message "Insert system disk", I and T of the insertion of the word seems to be half upper ASCII characters. The system S is the "less than or equal to sign." and the k of the scratch disk is {.} I already did the following:

-tried to start with one of my two memory card and I tried the two memory cards.
    -swapped my memory card.
    -reloaded windows and Linux

I have dropped it once but worked OK for a month after I dropped it. I deleted the operating system, but now seems to have problems to load a CD operatig system (CD works OK). Anyone have an idea what is wrong?

    Thank you
    Peter Loo

    Hello

You suggested that the cell phone dropped twice.
Well, you can try to connect the external monitor to the laptop to see if it s a screen failure or malfunction of the graphics card.

You have problems with the installation of the OS? Maybe there's something wrong with the disk and the HARD disk. But maybe only loses connection is responsible for the problems. Check the pins.

It is possible that the screen and other devices was damage due to falling down.

When I start my computer I get a yellow exclamation at the bottom right saying hardware not found: VGA (video controller).

I looked through the Toshiba drivers, using search terms "VGA", "video controller" and "Graphics", does not. I installed a driver "chip set", but that has no effect.

  • Help for Satellite Pro M10 RTC CMOS battery replacement

    I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro M10 PS630E-G206C-FR
Removing the main battery causes a failure message from RTC battery from the beginning to the top and loss of CMOS date/time.
I tried to charge my main battery in full and then leave the machine in charge while it is turned on (I said it is a method for the CMOS battery)-without any result.
    .
My questions: do I have to replace the RTC battery (ie: is it refillable welded or a CR2032 battery shows or similar).
If a specific type, the best source?
And also, where it is (I'm comfortable with disassemble my laptop having replaced the LCD cable already)
    Thank you
    David

    Hi David

Do you need help? What you mean exactly, step by step disassembly procedure? Maintenance manuals are not public documents and I'm really interested if anyone can offer assistance to you.

When you want to swap the portable RTC battery almost entire must be dismantled. Believe me that is not the procedure of 10 steps and to do something like this, you need the disassembly instructions. I recommend you to check how it will be service charges because that when they disassemble the laptop they can clean at the same time and the laptop will be as good as new.

If you want to do it yourself, it is very important to use authorized by Toshiba replacement batteries or real. Battery wrong installation may cause a battery explosion, or other damage.

    Please be careful about this.

  • Unable to connect to internet wireless - WLAN card non - Satellite Pro M10

Hi, I just got a second hand toshiba satellite pro M10 and I just of him relandscaped and put windows xp home edition on it. What I would like to be able to do is to connect to my network wireless of families so that I can get rid of all the cables on the floor. My laptop seems to think that there is no wireless card installed well. Now, I had the same problem with the lan cable, but I went on the tosibas Web site and downloaded a patch and update the driver in Device Manager. I am not able to do it with the wireless as there are no drivers to download for it and there is apparently no for this device in the Device Manager. Could someone please help me and tell me what to do and how I can download a patch or fix the problem. Thank you, Andrew Reid

    Hello

first of all, have you installed the drivers according to the installation instructions?
If this is not the case, this can cause problems.

When you see the wireless card works correctly in the Device Manager, check if you get a signal of any router. If there is nothing the card WLAN is defective, or the router works with another standard (a, b, g).

    Good bye

    Hello

I tried to upgrade cpu original 400 fsb 1.4 mhz centrino centrino 1.6 mhz 1 MB cache 400 fsb cache 2 MB (SL7EG), it works but only the minimum frequency (+-670 Mhz), it remains each time to the lowest frequency even if a lot of work is invited to the cpu (tried a lot of cpu stress tools).

I really don' t know how solve this problem... can someone help me please?

Bios version 1.50, version of the firmware 83,72, 23/05/2003 date of the bios.
    Thanks for advantage

NB: only in documents from toshiba, the CPU seems to be fully compatible with Satellite PRO M10

    Hey Buddy,

Just a quick question: you know that upgrading the CPU is not supported by Toshiba?
With other words, it means that no one can tell if another CPU works correctly, and if you can use the higher speed.

I guess if you can use t as the higher speed, the CPU is not taken in charge and that s a limitation of the card motherboard/BIOS.

  • Satellite Pro M10: image on the screen is very dark

I have a portable Satellite Pro M10, which has a black screen, i.e. the backlight does not work. There is an image on the screen, but it is very dark. When you connect an external monitor, I get a normal picture on this screen.

Information from other messages here, I conclude that there is a problem with the backlight of the lcd screen or the inverter. I checked all connections, but it does not solve the problem. If I bring the laptop to a service center how much it will cost about for repair? The thing is 2-3 years, so if it is very expensive I could better get a new laptop.

I'm sure I'll be able to change the inverter Board myself, but how am I going to be able to determine that the inverter is the problem? How to get a new inverter? Is anyone of you know the number of good product?

My Pro M10 itself has PS630E-G205Z-OF product number.

    Hello

I agree with Tobi. You sounds description as a faulty FL inverter.
This part is placed behind the LCD screen under the lid.
As mentioned this part isn t very expensive and you could order the partner of Toshiba service in your country. But be aware that if you have no experience of replacement if you ask technicians for assistance.

  • Satellite Pro M10 Fn + F5 does not not after login?

Im hoping someone can help me. IM totally confused.
Im a projector off a Satellite Pro M10 running. The Fn + F5 works perfectly all the way up to the CTRL - ALT - DELETE prompt. Even at this stage, I can still Fn - F5 and look through the settings. As soon as I connect the FN - F5 does nothing? I deleted all monitors, reinstalled the video card with the latest driver and installed the key utility function of the device from the website?
I guess it must be something with the display settings once the user connects, but I can't get out? I tried to take the setting down to the basic 16-bit and 800 x 600, but it makes no difference?
Any help or pointers would be helpful?
    Thank you
    Mark

    Hello

Sorry, but tells you is a little confuse.
The FN + F5 combination allows to switch between display devices. You can choose an external monitor, TV etc.
If you want to use the FN keys, you need to install the driver Toshiba display Utility (change of display device) and change the Hotkey utilities for display devices.

These two applications are responsible of the correctly using the FN + F5 option.
The graphic display driver has nothing to do with the FN + F5 keys.
