L420 SATA III 600 MB/s

Hello guys-Lenovo

I plan to install an SSD in my Lenovo laptop, L420. But I don't know if the SATA port will support SATA 3 (600 MB/s), if it only supports SATA 2, I think think I would consider buying a new laptop.

Another quistion: is it possible to get a Bay to the Bay of DVD, so that it would be possible to install a HDD here rather than the DVD, I never use the DVD, and if I can get a fast SSD for start-up etc and a big 1 TB in the Bay, it would be wonderful DVD.

Thank you for your time.

Markus

Hello! HARD drive Bay supports SATA III speeds, so all SATA III SSD will be fully used.

Regarding the DVD slot, it also supports SATA III speeds, and you can use a shopping cart to replace the DVD, but no matter what HARD drive you will place there will not be bootable. No problem, but for any other use (storage, etc.). A caddy with SATA connectors and height of 12.7 mm SATA is compatible.

One problem aesthetic is the bezel of the caddy that is flat, but you could replace that with the DVD bezel and your L420 will maintain its looks from the side.

  • HP DV7-6199us supports SATA III?

    Hello

There only SATA II or SATA III?

The reason I ask because I want to replace my SSD HARD drive.

    Thank you.

It's a SATA III interface, but you could install an SSD, even if it is SATA-II. Disc SSD SATA-III will be downclock to work on a SATA-II port and you would never know the difference. Or the other will be very fast.

  • Satellite R830 - support Sata III for SSD drives

    Hello

Why Toshiba Satellite R830 does not support Sata III, although the plug to motherboard. indicate that it is possible?

So you can not significantly increase the performance of your laptop by replacing the HARD drive with disk SSD Sata III. Is it possible to activate the Sata III (6 Mbps) on R830?

All the system settings? It's also kind of bios update request necessary support SSD and SATA III...

    Any help is appreciated! :)

    > It shows that SATA III is supported, but when you install the SSD SATA III disc it does not work with higher speeds to ~ 250 MB/s (cases Crucial M4).

From my own experience many SSD readers need a updated firmware that is provided by the manufacturers of SSD drives.

But readers in the R830 SSD seems to support these specifications:
    Host interface: Max 300 MB/s
Reading data supported: Max 250 MB/s
Writing data supported: Max 160 MB/s

By the way: the R830 supports a Mobile Intel HM65 Express Chipset and the chipset supports the storage interface high speed supports up to 6 Gb/s transfer rate for improved data access. Provides up to 6 SATA ports, 3 Gb/s with up to 2 ports support 6 Gb/s transfer rate.

    Hello

SATA-III was introduced in Sandy Bridge chipset (Intel with the 2nd generation 6 series I have Core CPU).
The laptop seems to be equipped with the Mobile Chipset Intel QM67.
These chipset supports SATA 6 Gbit/s for 2 Ports and 3 Gbps to 4 Ports.

But the SATA controller is also compatible to the bottom so that you could use disk SATA III SSD or HDD in SATA II controller too.

  • HP ProBook s 4740: HP ProBook 4740 s SATA III support

Hello, I would like to upgrade my laptop with a Crucial SSD BX200 hard disk that uses the SATA III interface. Can I use HDD connected (also SATA III) as capacity of extra strorage using EVOLVEO DF127 instead of the CD player? If so, SATA III HARD disc will be compatible with SATA CD drive interface?

    Thanks for the reply

Do not try to put a SSD in an optical interface. It will slow down and will not be bootable. You can put the SSD into the hard drive slot and put the HARD drive in the optical Bay. The HARD drive will be slowed down a bit but still good for storage. It is the way to do it. Do not worry about SATA-II vs SATA-III the SSDS works still fine.

  • SATA II or SATA III?

How can I determine if my HP Pavilion HPE h8-1160 CTO supports SATA III?  HP documentation seems not to be specific about SATA II or SATA III.  Considering an upgrade of the SDS.  Thank you.

Hello bridle_post. It is from these series of ships HP systems with an AMD chipset, and an Intel chipset.

Both these chipsets in a motherboard support Sata lll retail, but it seems that in the version of card mother HP, Sata, he's are only supported.

Here a link to the plug of this system with the Intel chipset, and it shows the specifications for 3 GB/s hard drives.

Here is the link to the AMD motherboard, and it also sees 3 Gbps.

    Hello

As far as I know, that it supports SATA II (3 Gb/s)
But you could install some software like diagnostic tools * SiSoft SANDRA *.
This would allow all of the details about the hardware configuration.

Could you confirm that its SATA II?

  • Satellite L850-117 - support SATA III

I have a plan to change my old hard drive with the new SATA III SSD.

I searched Toshiba homepage on spec if it supports SATA III, but it is very difficult to find this kind of information. If I understand correctly, we must support SATA III for the full implementation of the DSS.

The laptop is Toshiba Satellite l850-117, Sandy Bridge (32nm Technology), by Googling it I found a few answers that if I have a Sandy Bridge, I also have SATA III support.

From the BIOS I can only change 'best performance' or 'better life' for HDD/SDD, nothing on the SATA versions.

It's the best spec I found so far

I have USB 3.0 support, I guess that's a good sign, but I want to make sure I get full performance out of it, if spending a lot of money on large SSD.

Can someone give me an advice?

    Hello

Why you n t install some diagnostic tools material like Everest Home Edition or another tool like SENECA Sisoft.
The two would be able to provide all the details and all information about the properties of material and pieces of equipment.

The L850 series is equipped with different material parts, but usually the ODD controller and the HARD drive is connected to the chipset (Port of Cougar / Panther point) and the chipset is connected to the processor (Sandy Bridge / Ivy Bridge)

However, in my view and from my own experience, the SATA ODD interface would support 150Mbyte/s max. I don't know about the HARD m drive but I guess it could be 300Mbyte/s (SATA II)

But please share the results provided by one of the tools mentioned.

  • Satellite L750 does support sata III controller 3Gbs or 6Gbs

    Hello!

I intend to buy laptop [Toshiba satellite L750-16V and change the HDD SSD Intel 520 series sata III (6 Gbps).]

Is the sata controller transfer mode of sata III (6 Gb/s) data, or if it'll work in sata II (3 Gb/s)?
[Chipset Mobile Intel Express HM65 | http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/chipsets/value-chipsets/mobile-chipset-hm65.html] supports Sata 6 Gb/s speed, but what will be the actual speed if I run the SSD speed test?

    Thanks for the replies!

    Hello

    > but what is the actual speed if I run the SSD speed test?
I think it depends on the SSD drive.

I have read some tests on the Intel SSD 520 series and it seems that the performance of the SSD drives benchmark was of about 480 Mb/s

  • Qosmio X 500 does support SATA III controller?

    Hello

I think of one of my drives hard X500s replace with an SSD.
So now I'm wondering whether to buy a SATA II (3 Gbps) or SATA III (6 Gbps).

I understand that both standards will work on any SATA controller, but it the X 500 has a controller SATA III, so that I can take advantage of the extra speed of SSD? Because if not, I'd settle for the SATA II slower (and cheaper).
    Thanks in advance,
    Yanni

Why you n t install a material such as Everest Home Edition or Sandra Software diagnostic tool.
These tools are freeware and would provide details of s for laptop hardware.

I also googled a bit for details, but I found just that mobile information supports the SATA interface. So it s mentioned not really what SATA controller is
