Lab home equipment specifications

I intend to set up a lab at home. I would be grateful if someone who has set up a lab at home can help me with the specification. Please do not provide VMware HCL.

There are a lot of blog out there. people who have built their environment clean white box and shared the process of generation, those who used to create an environment that is completely nested in VMware workstation AutoLab .

I know you said that you do not want to be pointed to the HCL, but really this is a good starting point. another place to look for, but the detail is a little dated is now http://www.vm-help.com

I just want to know if I need to console in every device, whenever I make changes and others. Advice or tips would be appreciated

    Hello Leo,

indeed. The lines, you need to configure are the VTY lines, visible at the bottom of the configuration. A basic configuration that would allow all protocols including telnet and ssh would look like this:

    R1 (config) # line vty 0 15

    R1(config-Line) # password mypassword

    R1(config-Line) # local connection

    R1(config-Line) #transport of entry all

  • VMware Lab home

    Hello

I want to set up a laboratory at home that can be used to learn and explore the features of ESXi 5.1. I intend to install Workstation 9 then install ESXi 5.1 in one of the virtual machines in the workstation. Also I would like to install vCentre 5.1 Server directly in the workstation so that it can be used as an interface to access to and manage the machine virtual 5.1 ESX host and other virtual machines within the workstation. With this configuration, I would like to learn and explore the following features of ESXi

    DRS

    Fault tolerance

    VMotion

    SR - IOV

To build this lab, I reduced the following configuration

    CPU - Intel® Core™ i7 - 4770S processor (8 M Cache, up to 3.90 GHz)

    RAM - 16 GB OF DDR3 MEMORY

    -Card mother Intel DB85FL

    OS - Windows 7

Hard - SAS 300 GB drive

    1 Gb Ethernet NIC

Is this good enough to support the above requirements/characteristics?

    Thank you and best regards,

    Mukz

I think you should be fine with the material (although a SSD for the VM wouldn't be bad). In any case, I don't think that you will be able to use SR - IOV in the virtualized environment and FT may be limited to nested 32-bit clients.

I suggest that you take a look at building the ultimate vSphere Lab to get an idea of how set up the lab and discover the discussions in nested virtualization (especially those who answered jmattson ) before buying hardware.

  • Another VMware Lab home

Well, I finally do! I took the course (vSphere 5;) Install, configure, manage), I booked the review (VCP5), and now I'm going to set up a laboratory at the House VMware.

I borrowed some ideas of the great Sammy Bogaert blog

    The system that I'm building will have the following equipment;

    1 x processor - Intel Core i7-3770 BX80637i73770, Quad Core, 8 MB of Cache L3, 3.40 GHz (3.90 GHz Turbo Max), Socket m2 (LGA1155), 77 w, fan, retail

    1 x Corsair XMS3 CMX32GX3M4A1333C9 32 GB Memory Module - DDR3 1333 MHz CL9, DIMM

    1 x Crucial ct128m4ssd2cca m4 2.5 "solid state - 128 GB, SATA III 6 Gb/s drive

1 x Shuttle XPC SH67H3 Barebone PC - No. CPU, chipset Intel H67, Socket 1155, no. RAM, Gigabit LAN, USB 3.0, no. OS

    1 x Cache 64 MB disk hard - 2 to 3.5 "SATA, WD Green WD20EARX

    1 x DVD burner internal Lite-On IHAS124-04 DVD + R 24 X, DVD-R 24 X, DVD + RW 8 X, DVD - RW 6 X, DVD + R DL 8 X, SATA (OEM)

    1 x Converter drive Bay hard Thermaltake AC0014 - 3.5 "for SSD/2.5" converter

I will configure it with the following:

Windows 7, VMware Workstation 9 and running different nested VM with ESXi, vCenter, etc..

So with all that being said, anyone has any advice that recommend you for this type of installation.

Very much looking forward to the challenge in the coming months!

    See you soon!

Im sure that your configuration will be enough juice to fully support a virtualized lab, we have nearly the same configuration, but I had 'only' 24 GB of ram, lol, I have tried everything including FT (although you would have to edit the vmx files). I was virtualizing 3 machines esx, vcenter device, an AD, a freenas VM (or openfiler) controller for iSCSI SAN storage and all was still smooth as butter (4 virtual machines in 3 machines esx running windows 2003 server)

  • Implementation of vSphere LAB home

    Hello

I'm new to VMware and back to this community. I'm looking for assistance and advice to establish a lab at home environment. The reason why I like to do what I want to get some hands on experience with vSphere and other new technologies.

I have a desktop computer once I built in December 2009: Basic care as follows:

    ASUS P6X58D Premium Motherboard

    Intel i7 920 CPU

    12 GB of RAM (g Skill Ripjaws Series DDR3 1600 MHz PC3-12800 (6x2GB)

    Sapphire ATI Radeon HD4670 1 GB GDDR3

    Enermax EMD625AWT MODU82 + 625W power supply Powe3r

Cool Master HAF922 mid tower ATX case

    2 x onboard Marve Yukon 88E8056 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet.

    Running Windows 7 Pro.

1 x Linksys Dual band Gigabit Router (WRT320N)

    1 x HARD 1 t USB external drive

I have setup an ESX4.0 Server and how it works in VMware Workstation 6.5.2 build 156735. There is no other virtual machines that I built in either in ESX server or VMware Workstation.

I would like to set up at least two or three ESX 4.0 server in VMware Workstation. and then I like to create a few VMs that have vCenter server, DB server and domain control, DNS, DHCP server and file server and print., exchange 2007 and SharePoint server.

I don't have any other high-end SAN or NAS storage or another type of storage. Is there another way to set up shared storage that I use for all my virtual machines that I like the installer. I like to achieve and learn of VMotion, VM HA, DRS, Storage VMotion, etc...

Is it possible for me to do all this with what I have?

    Thank you

Also, you can find Openfiler and Freenas as VSA for VMware (virtual storage device), so you can import your VMware Workstation or VMware ESX/ESXi.

And also you can test ' [EMC Celerra VSA | ]. "[http://virtualgeek.typepad.com/virtual_geek/2009/04/New-Celerra-Vsa.html]" or "[HP Lefthand VSA | ]. [http://h18006.www1.HP.com/Products/Storage/Software/VSA/index.html] "which have 60 days trial.

You can with the help of EMC Celerra VSA / VMware SRM (Site Recovery Manager) work experience the latter.

    Posted the: December 21, 2008 03:30 reply

    Hello!

Just like to know if Toshiba L300-13 s is - this good is the specification of the computer.

Processor: AMD Turion X 2 processor Mobile Dual - Core RM-70
    Clock speed: 2.0 GHz
    level 2: 1 MB cache

    Standard system memory: 3 072 (2 048 + 1 024) MB
    Maximum extension: 8 192 MB
    Technology: DDR2 RAM (800 MHz)

    The graphic card manufacturer: ATI
Type: ATI Radeon X 3100 graphics card
Memory: up to 1 407 MB total graphics memory available with 3 GB of system memory
    Memory type: shared

I see no reason for this material standard are not good. Of course, I don't know for which purposes you need from your computer but with this one you can run Vista very well and for good price you will have portable solid.

I like this 17 laptops, but I prefer Design P. Satellite P300 satellite is for me a lot better and it seem also more noble than the series L. In any case, all of us have different opinions and taste. Isn t it? ;)

  • Download 12 c (equipment specific) question

    Hi all

I have a small question about the installation for RDBMS 12 c files.

I would like to install 12 c on our Linux x86_64 server and I noticed that all of the files for Linux are labelled "linuxamd64".

12 c for Linux 86_64 is specific to the AMD64 processor architecture or am I just read too much into it?

We are short of Intel Xeon so thought that I would check beforehand as if it doesn't matter, then it's a pretty misleading error and confusion of the bunch of names of files!

  • Question about the subscription renewal for vSphere lab Essentials home

First post on the forum here.  My apologies if this isn't the right place for a question like this.

I have a lab at home that I have set up using the "VMware vSphere 5 Kit Essentials" that I had bought on the VMware online store.  It was a pretty fun because it let me familiarize themselves with the technology that I use at work without the same consequences for the mistakes of the project.

To be honest though, I have never much thought about support and subscriptions for it... Setup should really just have to learn and be the main server for my house projects.  The cost for me to buy the Kit of Essentials has been a little more than $500 a year ago, and it seems that my still currently active subscription (my account displays "subscription only" for the Essentials Kit) allows me to download the latest patches and maybe even upgrade to a new major version in the future.  I would like to continue the subscription, as this seems to be more profitable that leave on the subscription and then renew... compared to the initial $ 500, a one or three year renewal looks pretty good - and I'd get to continue to be on the latest versions of the vSphere Essentials.

I thought it would be as simple as clicking on renew somewhere on my account, but that begins to not look like an option.  I think that I am driven to get in touch with a business partner for the subscription renewals (is this sounding right?).  This seems a bit much for me for a small laboratory at home like mine.  Is the only way to renew a subscription via a partner company?  If I'm completely off track here, please let me know.  If I'm here, does anyone know (or recommend) a partner company that manages small renewals as mine would be?

Maybe I'm hesitant for nothing, but I thought I would ask those who understand the subscription and support better than me.

Thank you very much for the help!

    Dan

To answer my own question, I discovered that for users with contracts less than $3,000... is it possible to make a renewal online without the need to go through a partner.  It turns out that the link to the online renewal page is available through the 60, 30, 15 days notice in advance of the emails that are sent to the holder of the account (which is how I found it).  The page renewal me related to this FAQ PDF that I found useful.  I was able to successfully renew my subscription from the link.

    http://www.VMware.com/files/PDF/myvmware/VMware-online-renewals-FAQs-en.PDF

The important bits for me were the following (from the FAQ):

    ====

Q: clients access renewals online from VMware.com or My VMware?

A: access to the online renewal platform is by a "direct link" sent to clients through the electronic communication of renewal.

Q: when VMware will send me the link of renewal online?

R: the link for customers to renew online will appear on reminders e-mail sent 60-30-15 days prior to the expiration of the contract.

Q: can customers renew all contracts renewal online?

A: customers will be able to renew those contracts to a total value of less than $3,000 USD only. Customers will have the option of

move to a higher level of service, or a longer term, as you wish.

    ====

Hope that helps future lab home amateurs like me.

  • Can I set up a guest account which limits the access to my computer at home.

I'm going to do a home Exchange next month and want to leave a computer for guests to use.  Can I set up a guest account which limits the access to my computer at home. Specifically, I want to limit the client's access to Internet Explorer so that they can check your e-mails and surf the web.  Is this possible?

Do NOT enable the guest account. The guest account is NOT designed for occasional access, it is a special system account. It is a security risk because it allows anonymous access on your machine, apart from anything else. This is why it is disabled by default.

Just create an account user Standard, called 'Visitor', or something like.

Make sure that the Admin account has a password and tell them it.

Also, make sure that all users on the computer ALSO have a strong password.

That's all you need to do.

    Hello

We are looking to deploy Linux models in Lab Manager environment, specifically SLES10. We placed in a customization script that works very well, however it seems to work twice, before and after customization. Exactly how can I specify in the script runs only one post?

    Thank you

In addition, if you just paste your script into the "Script customization" section, this code will be executed during the phases before and after.

    you need to add is:

    1. what suggested Shrenik

    2. an "if" statement in the parameter passed to this script.

    off @echo

    If "% 1" == "precustomization")

    tasks precustomization echo

    ) ElseIf '%1% ' == 'postcustomization')

    tasks postcustomization echo

    ) (other)

    unknown command line Echo

    )

It is in a batch script format, but you should be able to translate to bash easily.  %1% I think is equal to $1 in bash.

I try to connect to the Lego Mindstorms NXT robot: http://mindstorms.lego.com/en-us/default.aspx
    But it does not work.
The connection seems to be good and NXT and PC to find them, but when I try to connect, the NXT said "the line is busy".
Is someone can tell me if he can get through this issue?
Toshiba and Lego have an agreement on the connection of the questions?
    Thank you.

    Hello

Do you have Toshiba notebook or just use the Toshiba BT stack?

How to pass through this issue? Should anyone of us spent 250 Euros to buy it and test it at home? Dear oracid it's user forum and you can get help from someone who has the same home equipment and can help you with his experience.

Agreement between Toshiba and Lego in my opinion it is not problem. Any manufacturer who build material and want to use BT must know how it works. On the market of equipment, there are specific characteristics for each communication technology and what do we do Toshiba is to build and offer the specified material.

In your case, you must contact the Lego support and ask for help. they, no doubt, tested own stuff with different hardware platforms, the operating systems and software BT so Lego should have enough experience with own products.
