Lab Manager licensing during the merger of vSphere environments

Is there a small vSphere environment that is available for Lab Manager and a great environment vSphere and both are now completely separated (different vcenter servers, groups separated from ESX, etc.), and they are merged into one, what happens to the Lab Manager licenses?  Should be updated to take account of the increase in the number of ESX host in the new environment?  Environments can be merged without buying additional licenses?  If so, would be half the environment allowed for lab manager and others are not allowed?  How would the lab manager-under license, and lab-manager-without sections allowed environmental stands / separated?

Thanks for your comments

"Prepared" you went in in the section resources, hosts tab and see that the host is ready (green check mark), this means that there has been a 'prepare' to the host.  Prepare installs the agent LM, then she will deduct your license (settings > license).

  • ESX 3.5 licenses during the upgrade to vSphere

Hello all I hope someone can help me with a question of license.

Is there a way I can tell when my host ESX 3.5 license expires without a license server?

Can I take one of my vCenter 4.0 licenses and create the ESX 3.5 license file?

Or do I have to rebuild a license server to connect my ESX 3.5 hosts to? Is this really a machine virtual?

If it's important, I hope that all of my hosts built on ESXi 4.0 before the end of July.

    Thanks for the help,

You have a period of 14 days in which to run without a license server.  After 14 days (power on VMs) features become unavailable.  My recommendations:

    1. determine what day the license server was decommissioned.

2 see/var/log/vmkernel, logs files on the ESX servers to identify the first message about available license server.

3 project 14 days from the date of license server is deleted.

If you decide to try to beat the clock, doing nothing.  If you decide to license flex server backup steps below:

4 Alter the DNS name of the license server (ESX 3.5 servers point to licenses) to your new Server 4.0 vCenter.

    5. install the flex on your server vCenter 4.0 License Manager.

    6. make sure that ESX 3.5 servers are now allowed.

    7. remove the flex License Manager when the ESX 3.5 servers have disappeared.

  • Lab Manager 4.0 Upgrade Plus new vSphere Env Migration

    Current environment

    -Lab Manager 3.0.1

    U2 - VirtualCenter 2.5

    ESX - hosts running ESX 3.5 U2

-All stores data on a San

Will be a new separate building Lab Manager 4.0.1. Server from scratch that connects to a U1 vCenter Server 4.

The plan is to migrate users to the former LM 3.0 installation to the new LM 4.0/vSphere 4 environment that will also have all new ESX host.  We will not pass original hosts to the new CR.

Is there a way to copy or move the existing channels of the VM to the new separate environment?

Or would we need to plan to export the models to a file server, and then import them into the new LM 4.0 environment and have users to start from scratch with these models?

For any info or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you.

Concern: Data store mappings in LM are deleted once all hosts are posted?

No, virtual machines are stored in the database and mapped on the data store itself (and not on the host).  As long as the path of the UUID/NFS remains the same on different hosts, you should be fine.

    > Concern: LM 3 is not "supported" with VC 4, but he at least see and connect to it?

It's REALLY OBSCURE.  He can't let you connect at all, or to connect then say guests are not supported.  I've seen some clients get totally rejected and others which were broadcast in the config not taken in charge even when (as vCenter has been updated in the background and LM was not touched).  they did not actually change the address info and click 'OK '.

Concern: Assuming 3 LM can at least connect with VC 4, it will be able to reach the resource containing the host ESX 4 pools?

I think so, but as long as the Lab Manager database indicates that you use the right IP/Username/Password for vCenter... that should be enough to make Lab Manager 3 to 4 and do use the new vCenter for the Initialization Wizard.

I thought it was the holes between the existing partitions will be automatically merged, but this seems not to happen. Is it a case with partitioning interval? Is there a way to bypass this behavior? Also when I referred to one of the reference material, it is said

"Front holes higher non-intervalle partition will be silently 'merged' as well.

But in a real-time scenario where there is a possibility for the records to zero during a particular partition (date or number) Beach, how merge us the partitions after a while to move in the archives?

  • Issue licenses during the upgrade to vcenter 2.5 to 5.0

I have 4 ESX host running 3.5 update 5. I just upgraded from 2.5 to 5.0 vcenter. One of my ESX hosts still contains the old license server. I try to change it to the correct server, but I get the cannot change the license server error. I couldn't ping the server licenses from this host. I noticed that on my 4 host, that host was the only server where DNS is not configured. I set up the DSN and I can now ping on the license server, but still I can't change it. From the console, I did a service network restart hoping that would clearly be DNS.

The customer, I go to Administration - vCenter Server Settings and the licensing option is configured correctly. Any reason why it changed on my other host 3 but not this one?

    Thank you

You'll have to mainrain one license server until you can upgrade your ESX, ESXi 5 hosts - and don't forget not there is Noah ESX in vSphere 5 so you will have to reinstall to ESXi.

  • inbrowser edition of hyperlinks removed during the merger in Muse! Made my head.

    Hi all

So it's in my head and I'm really hoping that someone can help me because it is causing many headaches with my client and a lot of work with me.

I created a site of sport horse - now the client has access to the browser edition due to changing horses all the time so I have created pages of models and they can simply change the text etc. - now, I created an area of URL on each horse that has a hyperlink to youtube for this horse. 90% of the time when they put the URL in and I merge with muse the link is deleted and I find myself with the text. leaving me to go through each page and manually add the url of the live site.

    Help, please!

    Thanks in advance,

    Hello

I would like to inform you that, now the 'in the browser edition feature"in Muse, allows users to change the text and images in their sites. You cannot add all hyperlinks by using the function "change in the browser.

  • How to upgrade access roads during the merger of the sites?

    Hello

My Unix account has two Web sites and domain names hosting. One domain name (primary) points to the root, the other domain name (secondary) points to a folder that is located under the root, I think this can be called an Alias.

In DreamWeaver, two sites are defined.

    In Site DW for primary...

File of the secondary has activated the concealment

    The local Site folder: \Websites\primary\

    Root directory:

    Web URL: http://www.primary.com/

    In Site DW for secondary...

    The local Site folder: \Websites\primary\secondary\

    Root Directory: /secondary/

    Web URL: http://www.secondary.com/

Because they are treated as two separate sites but are really the same now (member groups), maintenance is more difficult, with two models, two sets of css, engine site search Web create two sets of search results. I want to merge the two together. I would like to www.secondary.com to still be of use so I thought to use a 301 redirect in my .htaccess file for the primary path.

Now to my main question, what is the best way to have all the links in the Site DW for high school (also the secondary folder) modified to include the path of the primary?

Thus, for example, the link www.secondary.com/index.php would become www.primary.com/secondary/index.php an etc. in the site/folder.

Does make sense. Suggtions would be appreciated.

    Dennis

Change the site definition.  Do the root site 2 be the same folder as the root folder for the site 1.  That should do the trick.

  • How to manage transactions during the different caches

I found in the document, we could use TransactionMap to manage a transaction for a cache. For example, we put all the books in a cache named book_cache.
But I wonder if we can manage a transaction on different caches. For example, we have all the books in book_cache and all of the editor, then put in publisher_cache. Then we consider change a book and change a Publisher as a unit of work. How to handle this?

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Ramon

You can use key association to ensure that a set of cache entries related is included in a partition one cache. This is what we call data affinity.

    See http://coherence.oracle.com/display/COH35UG/Data+Affinity

According to John, which will guarantee of atomicity. Here is quote from John from a previous post.

"The only way to ensure atomicity must ensure that a transaction cover partitions. You could watch association key to ensure that related data resides in the same partition. »

  • Lab Manager acceleration kits / required licenses?

    Hello!

We are currently using ESXi and plan to move to centralized test Lab Manager lab. The estimates are based on the acceleration kit that used to be available at about 4-5 k €, which seemed to include VI 3 licenses that are required for the Lab Manager to run on top of ESXi (or if whatever the basis ESXi does not support).

Now I can't find the acceleration kits more 'Buy Lab Manager', instead I find licenses for Lab Manager only.

Now I read everywhere that the vCenter is necessary and even messages that describe that vCenter foundation is not sufficient to run the laboratory Manager. However no official 'that's what you need to do if you want to get Lab Manager' running.

To be honest, if the acceleration kits were gone for good, licensing begins to be as clear as some States large company in their regulatory policy, "must be this version of the database server", but do not worry to mention what license you need for the said server or background Windows server...

I would like to know the price of 'minimum' (to continue) Lab Manager on top of bare metal, start-up costs and maintenance renewals when the initial support runs.

With regard to reading, 2 or 4 processors as it seems to count.

    BR,

    Kalle

Sorry, that seems so difficult.  To sort through all of this:

    • Lab Manager requires ESX Standard or Enterprise.  It does not currently run on ESXi, but it's on the Roadmap (cannot discuss dates here).

    • Lab Manager 3 requires vCenter (Lab Manager 2 does not work).

    • vCenter Foundation is untested, but should work (but can only manage up to 3 knots).

    • ESX Foundation is not supported by the Lab Manager.

    • The laboratory director is authorized by the node (the server Lab Manager is free).

    • Lab Manager Server runs on Windows Server 2003 and can run on a virtual machine

    • VirtualCenter runs on Windows 2000, Windows XP Professional, or Windows Server 2003 and can also run on a virtual machine.

    Thus, the minimum subscription is:

    • ESX Standard for two processors

    • Lab Manager for two processors

    • vCenter Foundation

    • Windows licenses you need for the Lab Manager server and VirtualCenter Management Server.

Installing vCenter Management Server and server Lab Manager on the two virtual machines on this host ESX and use their local drive to store the virtual computer images.

Such a system doesn't scale well, of course.  When you size, you will need to add the following:

    • Shared storage (NFS, iSCSI, or FC)

    • More ESX and Lab Manager licenses

    • vCenter Standard or Premium, instead of Foundation.

    Hope this helps,

    Steven

  • Lab Manager and VMFS 5?

I know Lab Manager only is not supported in vSphere 5 but I have a cluster where some hosts run LabManager.  I've updated vCenter and LabManager still works very well.  I want to spend the VMFS, so there are 2 possible scenarios

-Put level all VMFS volumes, will be this LM break?

-Upgrade only the LUNS than regular machinery of the host and leave the LUNS that are dedicated to LM as VMFS3.  This will cause any type of conflict?

    Hello.

I don't think that you can actually get these 5 VMFS volumes, as all the guests, access to the database must support VMFS-5. This means that only 5 ESXi hosts will work.

    Good luck!

  • I can point my Lab Manager 4.0.2 to point to another new vCenter Server?

    Hi guys,.

I have a client with a LM4.0.2 production and we are considering moving to one another new/a vCenter server.

It is important to note that the new vCenter will NOT have the same DB or FULL of the old domain name. It's a completely different vCenter with other ESX hosts.

    Now the questions:

Can I redirect my Lab Manager (VM) at the new vcenter without any problem?

What of the ESX (resource) on the old vcenter?

Is it possible to do this without downtime for laboratories? If this is not the case, how can I minimize downtime? cancel the deployment will be enough?

Does anyone have this done successfully?

Any comments would be much appreciated.

    Eyal

    etamir,

There are some excellent discussions within this forum on the same topic.  I strongly suggest to read first, and I'll see if I can find an example.

Before going further, data warehouses used in the new vCenter/ESX environment will be exactly the same as the current one?  If you want to keep all of your configurations, I need to know that the UUID of the LUN does not change during this process.

Can I redirect my Lab Manager (VM) at the new vcenter without any problem?

You can change the IP/domain FULL name vCenter in the settings section of the Lab Manager site... now on the problems that could result.

You will need to remove anything from the GUI of Lab Manager that has to do with the current vCenter (unedploy, unprepare host esx, resource pools, configurations etc.).  There will be more on this in the dedicated thread

What of the ESX (resource) on the old vcenter?

ESX doesn't really matter, it's the data UUID store that matters.  ESX is just virtual machines.  Note: you'll want to throw all States/suspend points on the VMS where processors are different on the ESX hosts.

    > Is it possible to do this without downtime for laboratories?

No, there will be a form any downtime.  Either that LM site will be useless (no resources with Betclic, consoles will does not work until the guests are prepared, etc.).

    > If not, how can I reduce downtime? cancel the deployment will be enough?

Yes, to cancel the deployment of will help... but there will be some lag as you reconfigure Manager of laboratory to use the new vCenter.

    > Has anyone successfully done this?

Yes.  I saw others to do this.

  • licensing during "upgrade spread"

    Hello

We have vCenter approved for 12 central units and have six two-processor 3.5 ESX host. We want to replace the existing ESX hosts with six new machines two ESX 4.1.

Once we did the upgrade to vCenter, we would like to join the new vCenter ESX servers and vMotion to migrate the old guests to new ESX hosts, but it will mean that we manage more than 12 UC we are allowed to. Is there a way to temporarily exceed the license during the migration? Or do I temporarily disconnect an old box ESX to vCenter to connect a new ESX box?

    Thank you!

    John

I think you should be fine, that unauthorized hosts will be in their trial period license window.
